Advice on buying HE top load washer

I just purchased an LG top loader set. It will be delivered tomorrow and I will post my review. ITM... this set and company gets RAVE reviews so I am hoping it is OK - the pp's scared me! :scared1: I researched both front-loaders and top loaders and found there to be many more problems with front loaders (smell, leaking, etc) so that is how I decided to get a top loader plus it was what I was used to. I really hope I like the set as it wasn't cheap by any means. I will let you know.

I had my LG set delivered on Friday and immediately did three loads of laundry. The water use was less, but the clothes were extremely clean! The machine is quiet and dries in no time. I haven't had to do another load f laundry since and that is saying alot - since I usually do 3 loads a day! I highly would recommend the LG top loader sets!

I have a Whirlpool top loading HE washer and I absolutely hate it. It doesn't clean well, we've had nothing but problems with it and it's only a year old. I'll work really hard to find a non-HE washer for our next one. And the way this one sounds, that won't be far off.

I had a Maytag Neptune toploader which only lasted about 5 years. I hated how wrinkled the clothes were not to mention all the service calls we had.
I've been much happier with my LG front loader.

Not sure which ones you have but like I said earlier, I've had mine now for a couple of months and I love my LG's...clothes come out really clean and they are so much quicker than my old machines...best of luck with yours too!

I killed my Sears front loader in 6 years (3 repair times, 4th not work it to me) an just got a Samsung top loader and LOVE it! So much bigger (I have family of 5) and got a great deal on it at Lowes!:goodvibes Silver outside (Hate white) and stainless tubs (?) in washer/dryer, not the painted kind.

The repair man that fixed my Fisher and Paykel Intuitive Top loaders the last time:headache: said that next time I need to buy machines I should get the LG front loaders. He said they are well built and the best machines for the money.

I have the Whirlpool Cabrio top loader and hate it.

why-
1. Uses little water and for toddler twins that pee all the time I feel like the clothes are not getting clean.
2. Hard to find HE detergents.
3. Clothes do not smell as great.
4. Twists the clothes in wash with no center spiral bar thingy. You have to shake them out before placing them in dryer or you get one sleeve or pant leg longer than then the other or wrinkled.
5. The top on dryer and washer tilts to you can not have your soaps at top unless you have a cabinet glass spongy liner on top to hold them on.

I cannot wait until I work again (still raising kids before Kindergarten) so I can buy what I want and not what DH can't stop me. :lmao:

We just bought a new Speed Queen washer last week after my Maytag bit the dust (it was only 7 years old). Anyway, they told me that Speed Queen's machines are built to last 20 years and the other brands are built to last 10 years. I should also add, it isn't a HE machine. We'll see....

Have a Magtag Cabrio for about 3 years now and I will never go back to a top load high efficiency again....maybe its just me but I LIKE the older machines that you can open the top and SEE water. This thing is like a big mystery....you cant see in it..... They DID have one with the top clear so you could see inside but it was a few hundred more.

Lately when washing delicates I have noticed that some of the clothes come out with DRY SPOTS on them....

I want a machine that I can soak my stuff in....full of water........

I do not like it at all...if I had the space I would be willing to try the front loader..

The top loaders I used to own had plenty of water but did not rinse clothes well. I have had front loaders for 11 years and they are the way to go! Recently bought a Samsung HE & it is great - went to most of the stores in our area and asked for their best washer and this brand was recomended by them all. Do you not have room to open a front loader door? They rinse & spin dry so well - takes less drying time & energy.

I have an energy efficient but not listed as HE top load whirlpool with an agitator. It uses less water and senses the loads and it wrings out them out so they take less time to dry. It's ok.

I noticed I had to start treating it like an HE machine and use a teaspoon or so of detergent or it was acting up and not taking all the water out. It's very loud, though it claims to be quiet in the instruction booklet.

It is rough on clothes. I think washers with no agitator or that use less water are harsher on clothing because they rub against each other and wring them out too harsh.

While it seems to clean them well and doesn't have the problems of typical he machines, I'm not sure I love it. I've had it a little over a year. I wish you could buy the basic top loaders still.

pilesoflaundry, have you ever had a front loader? They are not harsh at all on clothes, just falling around as they wash - takes less water because the clothes are in it all the time. The top loader I had 11 years ago was rough on our clothes with all the twisting, but it used a full tub of water, so I will have to say they were clean, but did not rinse or spin as well. I've only had my Samsung front loader a couple months, but it is quieter, larger capacity, larger window door and so far is great. :thumbsup2 The Kenmore front loader I had for 11 yrs. did the job but was nosier and smaller capacity - no comforters :sad2:

I have the Maytag (I believe that's the brand) Bravo XL (that part I'm sure of) and it works great so far. We've had it about 3 months everything seems to be going good with it. It's a huge top load non-aggitator HE machine with a glass top. The first week we had it, it was like a big deal to watch what it was doing. It doesn't use much water and is super quiet.

The agitators are rougher. We get very little lint in our dryer. Link comes from the fibers being damaged in the washer. We have had an HE machine for about 5 years and our clothes look way better than before we got the machine.

I also have this set and LOVE it. not only has my electric bill and water bill dropped from my older set (it was about 10 years old and was a standard topload washer) but everything comes out so clean. I have watched loads and notice that the water does not cover the very top of the clothing (the manual even says this is normal) however, things that I have specifically put on the bottom of the drum I see them "moved" up to the top and back down again throughout the cycle, so this machine seems to be very good at "moving" the clothing from top to bottom. I also love the settings available so that bulky items get more water as the water level is normally "sensed" by the weight. I just love this machine.

My mom, 3 (out of 5) of my sisters / SIL's, my MIL and 2 of my Best Friends have various models of front loaders, in various areas of the US and all I ever hear from them are complaints (either service calls, smell, etc etc)
