Advice needed on VGF2 purchase

OP here, with the verdict! Sorry for the delay as my guide was off yesterday. The answer is no, they won’t let me split the purchase up into two 75-point purchases while allowing my sons to become new members even though I am on the contracts also and the total is 150. My guide did try to get approval. It still doesn’t make any sense as I could have bought them in my name alone, then added them on after the fact, and they would have then become new members. Same contracts, same number of points.

In the end, I decided the time and/or expense of changing title just isn’t worth the hassle to me and so purchased it as a straight 150 point contract. Many thanks to everyone for all of your advice (and thoughts & prayers 😁).

The workaround this is to do it as a trust/LLC or just title them both to you and one son and then change one later. If you're doing your will anyway, I might ask your local lawyer about how they would structure it.

I think it's worth doing this right from the jump, especially if you plan for your kids to inherit this.

It’s the same when an owner wants a new UY. Because it’s a new membership, you must meet the minimum of 150.

But, since you wanted them to have blue card perks anyway, it probably works out!!

Congrarts!!

Yes, I really wanted to get this done this week so actually decided to only put one of my grown sons on this as he’s the one most interested in continuing DVC trips. I’ve been thinking a lot about your suggestion of a trust as I have a LOT of BWV points. Definitely going to make an appointment with an estate attorney soon to update our very outdated wills and see what can be done regarding these DVC contracts. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Thanks so much and also for all your advice, I’m excited!

By the way, I meant to ask… If you were to put a DVC membership into a trust, do all individuals named in the Trust become DVC members (assuming minimum point requirements are met?)

Ha, got it! The links are perfect in terms of starting my list of questions prior to seeking legal counsel. Many thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

The accumulate works for current owners. Any new owners have reported they had to get at least one 150 point contract when buying in direct if it's their 1st contract. They could buy a small resale and then start accumulating towards the 150 or split it into 2 contracts because they'd already be members but I don't think that's really the thing you're looking for. Never hurts to ask the guide though. Maybe an exception could be gotten.
I currently own a 25 point contract at OKW. I wanted to buy 150 points direct at VGF. Do you know if I would be able to buy those points as a 75/75 split or would they require me to put it all as 150 contract?

As long as it’s the same UY with the same owners, they will let you do 75/75 because you are already an owner.

Just know that if you ever sell one of those contracts, you will lose your blue card benefits because the minimum is 150 and your current OKW points would not count toward that.

As long as the two 75 pointers are the same use year as your OKW contract and are titled exactly the same as the OKW contract, then yes, you could do two 75 pointers and have blue card benefits. That's because you would be adding on to your existing membership.
