Advice needed Epcot to DHS

...and can you even get a bus from Epcot to DHS? I didn't think they ran park-to-park...?

The buses do not run from park to park, you have to go from park to resort to park, so the boat would be much quicker, not to mention a nicer ride.

There most definitely IS park-to-park transportation. Why does this always seem to baffle people? I use park-to-park buses every single trip, so I can vouch that they really do exist!

Maybe people get it confused with no DTD-to-park buses? :confused3 Or maybe the fact that buses to MK go thru TTC? Is that where the confusion lies? You can go from any park to any park (other than MK-to-Epcot & reverse because of the monorail) , just look at the Transportation Board when exiting a park to see what bus stop # to go to.

Not baffled or confused, just always followed what we were told by our resort CM and bus drivers when we first began using the bus system years ago. We were told buses run from resort to park to resort, so that is what we always followed, never occured to us to question the info.

Have a blessed day!:)

I believe that was true years ago. They have since added park-to-park buses in most cases.

There is "direct" (some more "direct" some less) transportation between all the WDW theme parks.

Most routes are via Disney Buses.

Here are the "park-to-park" Disney Transportation direct connections:

>Note: The MK bus connections arrive and depart only at TTC.<

MK/TTC> Epcot = Monorail
MK/TTC> DHS = Bus
MK/TTC> AK= Bus

AK> DHS= Direct Bus
AK> Epcot= Direct Bus
AK> TTC/MK= Bus

DHS> TTC/MK= Bus
DHS> AK= Direct Bus
DHS> Epcot= Direct Bus (Epcot Front Gate) or Boat (Epcot Intl. Gateway)
......Boats ("Friendships") make 3 interim stops at the Epcot area resorts.)

Epcot > TTC/MK= Monorail
Epcot > AK= Direct Bus
Epcot> DHS= Direct Bus (Epcot Front Gate) or Boat (Epcot Intl. Gateway)
......Boats ("Friendships") make 3 interim stops at the Epcot area resorts.)

The buses have their destinations shown on them on illuminated signs.
The bus stops at the parks are also marked with signage.

As a rule-of-thumb, allow 40-60 minutes to get from the gates of one park to the gates of another park.

But does the boat also go from DHS to Epcot?

We have a 10:40 ADR for a character breakfast at Askerhaus and I was considering doing an early morning trip to DHS for a ride or two (we have limited time in our schedule for DHS and will have already spent a day at Epcot on the day we're considering taking the boat). Get to DHS when the rope drops, ride from 8:00 - 10:00 and then head over to Epcot.

Thoughts? Thanks!

1- Yup. The boats make a "loop."

2- Get to DHS by 8:30AM, at the latest, DHS will open to guests (unannounced) at 8:45AM.

I suggest that you leave DHS by 9:50-ish and grab the boat (or walk) to Epcot.
If you choose to walk from DHS, just remember that it will still be quite a long walk
(figure between 1/3 to 1/2 mile) after you get to Epcot from the International Gateway
all around to Norway.

I can vouch for walking and the boat taking pretty much the exact same amount of time (Right around 20 minutes). Last December we were unlucky enough to be walking up almost to the boat just as the CM was shutting the gate. As the year before we had wound up waiting 20 minutes for the next boat and we figured we could pretty much be at DHS in that amount of time, we decided to just walk it. We started walking at the same time the boat pulled away from the dock. We saw it stopped at one of the resorts as we were getting there and tried to pick it up there, but again, the CM was closing the rope just before we got to the boarding area. We got to DHS just in time to see the boat getting ready to pull up to the dock there...so we actually beat it by a minute or two. It is a nice boat ride. I'd try for the boat outside IG, but if you just miss it, or if the line looks too long for you to make the next one (that is what happened to us the year before when we were trying to get over to DHS EMH), I'd just start walking it.

Forgive me, but I remember reading somewhere that you can take a shortcut through the Boardwalk when walking to DHS that will make your walk that much quicker to DHS from Epcot. Can anyone confirm this is still true? From the map, it looks like it's a shorter distance to walk over the bridge to Boardwalk and walk down to DHS.

The route in purple in Robo's map above shows this shortcut.

Yes. The shortcut is marked in magenta on the map in post #24.

I almost want to promise you that you will get there fastest by walking. Sure, the boat ride and the walk take the same amount of time but that's not taking into account the wait for the boat. There surely will be a wait if you plan to take it just as IllumiNations lets out. It is an easy walk down a straightforward path.

If your feet are tired, take the boat. If they're not, then hoof it and you'll likely beat the boat. It's that simple.

Is there any good "road markers" to show where to turn in at Boardwalk to follow that magenta path?

You walk directly alongside the main Carnival-themed Swimming Pool via a pathway/door that
connects the pool area to the central courtyard where the Boardwalk Resort faces Crescent Lake
(and the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts across that lake.)

Once you leave the IG follow the signs to the Boardwalk - it's on the far side of Crescent Lake. You'll walk by ESPN, Kouzzina, Flying Fish Cafe, and the lawn area in front of the main entrance. Ahead of you you'll see Screen Door General Store. Turn Left on the path just before the Screen Door. Ahead of you will be the Wyland Gallery. Walk past the Wyland Gallery and just past it will be a covered walkway, turn Right into the walkway. Straight ahead of you will be the clown pool. Walk around the pool, out the gate, turn left onto the path and you'll be heading the DHS. The waterway will be on your right.

I would personally take the boat, hands down!!

Yup.

Considering that the walk is about a mile from gate-to-gate, that's one extra mile's walking at WDW that I don't generally need to take on a hot day.

Although I HAVE walked it many times,
I figure that if Disney goes to the expense of providing the Friendships for the trip, I'll take one! :thumbsup2

For comparison, the trip walking between DHS and Epcot's Int'l. Gateway is just about the same distance
as walking completely around World Showcase from (for instance) Mexico to Mexico... again, that's about a mile.

.

I guess it all comes down to if you want to save time or save energy. Obviously, the boat is better if you are adverse to walking. Just a reminder though, that you won't be walking in the heat as it will be quite late in the evening.
