Advice for all Posters (RE: Acronyms)

Hey IMGONNABE40!....how was your vacation??? ...details please..... :rolleyes1

I agree that the use of acronyms and "texting" language is becoming more common! :thumbsup2

I do use some acronyms and am usually not bad at working them out (eventually!) :teeth:

A friend of mine was a bit put out when even other guys were sending emails with "Lots of Love" at the end - he did find it funny though after I explained that people were just saying Laughing Out Loud! :rotfl2:

Or at least that is the official story to BF #1 regarding texts from BF #2 and #3 he he he he. Do you like how I break my own rules on this on my own thread??? He he.

I posted this link on another thread, but it should probably be here too since it deals specifically with spelling out abbreviations. The DISBOARDS recognize that all these acronyms can be confusing, so they a whole page dedicated to defining many of the ones commonly used (although, I think unless I am missing something, they have left out RPR. :( )

I hear ya! My track record for figuring out acronyms that exceed three letters is about 50/50. When I can't figure one out I get frustrated. Aside from the basics I don't really use them. Mostly I never ask the poster to define their acronym but I think I'll try that from now on. I could always go here http://www.acronymfinder.com/ and try and look it up! AFAIK (as far as I know) its a great website, KWIM? :rotfl2: ;)

Just for the heck of it I plugged in MNSSHP into the acronym finder and it came up with the right answer... :thumbsup2

Whereas HHN produces Hospitals & Health Networks and Hand Held Nebulizers :rotfl2:

If I don't know, I ask. I just asked about a couple today over on the Disney forums.

My husband has a FUAB on his desk-- "frequently used acronym book" ! :lmao: And yes, it actually says FUAB on the cover in big letters! :rotfl:
Plugging FUAB into the acronym finder is comes up with...

Foul Up After Birdie (golf; polite form) :lmao:
