We originally had a Disney cruise scheduled for 6/2012 out of New York but had to cancel. Last night I came up with the idea of doing a late summer trip, end of August. Need some advice though.
How are the crowds end of August. I seem to remember people saying on here the parks aren't too bad. I have never been there before labor day.
We are thinking about trying for the Beach club in a studio. My daughter saw the pool there last year and was upset we couldn't go in. I think this would be a nice surprise. If not Beach club, then BWV? Or SSR or OKW? We will only be getting a studio, to save on points for a big trip in 2013.
Are the parks still open late end of August?

Any input would be appreciated. Trying to sell this to my wife. She doesn't want to go when it is too hot and crowded.

I would call tomorrow and book your home resort for the days you want. Then at 7 months call and try to switch.

August will be very Hot, so SAB at BCV would be a wonderful choice. I have never been to WDW in late August, so I can't comment on the crowds. But if it was my family going, we would take plenty of time to swim and relax/cool down during the day and hit parks early and late to get the most of our park time.

We go every year in late August and we never have a problem. Yes its HOT but the crowds are managable. Schedule what you want to do and use the Fast passes at the busiest attractions. The parks are not open super late 10-11pm execpt for EMH then it is usually open to 12 or 1 am. The only problems you may run into (if you are not used to it) is the humidity that comes with the everyday short rain shower and the threat of hurricanes around that time.. We a missed a couple by a few days opon our arrival. Watch out for free dining (if you can get it with the DVC) since its normally offered around that time.

Did you book the cruise with points? If yes, they cannot be used for a DVC resort.

No, we booked the cruise with cash. We are having multiple issues at my job, and it is just too much money to spend right now, plus a few other issues. So to be safe, I figured, we could do a budget trip down there, stay in a studio, and the little guy will still get free admission to the park and eat for almost nothing if we do DDP. I figure a trip down with park tixx would be about 1/3 of price of cruise.

Crowds are not bad at the end of August but the weather is brutal and peak hurricane season. The parks will not be open as late then. Epcot of course will be the same but MK will probably have a 10pm closing except on weekends.

A good pool would be a plus, if you call right at 7 months you should be able to get BCV, we have gotten it many times at 7 months in the summer.

I have a different perspective......

Being from the northeast 90 in humid is 90 and humid, therefore by the end of the summer I'm used to the heat and humidity..... Not sure if I would be tolerant in June. Plus everywhere in the world is air conditioned...

We take a relaxed approach... Go To rope drop, leave just After lunch, relax by the pool, go back to park for or aft dinner. Wake upend do it over the next day! :rotfl2:

Parks are light the last week in August which is a bonus! But crowds can be heavier if the offer t
He free dining.

Bottom line is I would let heat stop you

If you are looking to save points. OKW is almost always the cheapest way to go (least # of points)

Be forewarned that, since it's hurricane season, it might NOT be a SHORT t'storm every day. We went during TS Fay, and Fay was stuck in Orlando. HOWEVER, that didn't stop us! It rained off/on all day every day, but that made the light crowds even lighter!

All in all, the end of August isn't bad. Just know that it will be hot and humid, and you need a mid-day break. Other than that...enjoy!
