I got it yesterday but did not watch it until today - so totally adorable, only wish it were true! The end where goofy actually said my name was the best part!

:)

I got mine from Disney Vacation Club. My sister received hers from the Mickey Moms' Club.

Just saw this nice blog post about the 2009 panel. This time it's from none other than Deb Wills, owner of allears.net.

Kudos gals (and Doug).

By the way, if you are a fan of allears.net, Deb just created a new facebook fan site for allears.net

I didn't get that e-mail either, but sweet Allison had sent it to me a few weeks ago.

She has the link on her blog if you didn't get the e-mail. I sent it to all my Disney friends, and they have been talking about it ever since! They loved it.

If you haven't seen it yet, you need to hit the link and surf on over so you can see it. It's pretty neat!

Here is an article from the Orlando Sentinel about the video email...

Disney hopes e-mail campaign delivers some buzz Scott Powers | Sentinel Staff Writer
December 11, 2008
Walt Disney World is tapping a new Internet network for its marketing: you and your friends.

As part of its "What will you celebrate?" promotional campaign for 2009, Disney on Wednesday launched a chain-letter-style e-mail, counting on people to inundate friends and families with customized copies.

The e-mail links recipients to a Disney Web page with a customized video of the Magic Kingdom. In that video -- a faux TV news report -- the e-mail recipient's name is digitally plastered onto everything -- banners, trolley signs, song lyrics, etc. -- as if the entire theme park has been dedicated to that person for the day. Once the video is done, the recipient is invited to forward the link, with personalized messages if desired, for the next round of friends.

Disney sent out thousands of the e-mails Wednesday, to annual-pass holders, friends and family of employees, and others, with the hope that the video will be considered clever and amusing enough to overcome any annoyance factor associated with unsolicited e-mails. Disney spokesman Duncan Wardle said initial feedback was positive, and Internet traffic monitored by Disney was overwhelming.

"I've sent turkeys to the White House. I put Buzz Lightyear in space. . . . I have never seen a response like this," he said.

Robert Cascio, an Internet marketing instructor at University of Central Florida, said such campaigns must get the e-mail into the hands of big fans of the product.

If the e-mail involves interactive, personalized messages, they can be fun, he said -- that's when they can become "viral" and spread rapidly.

"This is something that you want to tell someone about, where you say, 'Hey, let me show you something on your computer,' " Cascio said. "That is what a viral [campaign] tries for."

Mr. Disney mom has park wired
DISNEYWORLDMOMS.COM | Evanston dad helps people plan their trips

December 17, 2008
BY LORI RACKL

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World isn't child's play. Florida's famous attraction contains a dizzying array of 20 resort hotels, four theme parks and two water parks -- all sprawled over a space twice the size of Manhattan.

To help people plan their visits, Disney earlier this year debuted the Walt Disney World Moms Panel (disneyworldmoms.com), an online forum led by park-savvy parents. These Disney devotees share their insight on everything from when to visit and where to stay to tips on avoiding the lines at Space Mountain, the best spot to snag Goofy's autograph and where to find "hidden Mickeys" scattered discreetly across the park.

The panel is made up of 11 moms and one lone dad: Bret Caldwell of Evanston.

Caldwell, 43, was the only male to survive Disney's three-round application process, which drew a whopping 10,000 applicants.

The father of three decided to try out for the panel "on a lark," figuring it would be a good way to share the copious research he did for a family vacation to Disney in 2006.

"I built a pretty crazy Excel spreadsheet for that trip," Caldwell said, a little sheepishly. "It can be amazingly complicated going to Disney World. That's why they have panels like this."

When the panel debuted in January, it was an instant hit. Caldwell and the moms fielded more than 11,000 questions in the first 10 months. Questions like, "Is Cinderella's Royal Table suitable for boys?" (Caldwell's answer: Absolutely. It's one of his son's favorites for three reasons: He gets a sword, they serve fantastic bacon, and it's not so bad being surrounded by a bunch of little princesses.)

Another query: "When is the 3 o'clock parade?" (Caldwell's answer: It's not as silly a question as it sounds. It depends on where you are in the park.)

Disney's Moms Panel members' tour of duty lasts one year. The new panel will be announced next month. The 2009 group will expand to 16 people, including a parent specializing in questions about Disney Cruise Line vacations.

Caldwell's tenure on the Moms Panel may be coming to an end, but not so for his love of Disney. That started at age 8 when his dad first took him to the park.

"I went back as an adult. I went again as a married couple. Then with one kid, two kids, three kids," he said. "I've had a lot of different Disney experiences."

Caldwell taps into those experiences when answering roughly 14 questions a week; the minimum requirement for panelists is eight.

He estimates that most weeks he'll spend up to 15 hours responding to queries and keeping up to date about all things Disney by listening to podcasts and going over guidebooks.

Disney treated panelists to an orientation at the resort shortly after they were chosen. Panel members also get an all-expenses paid, five-night trip to Disney World -- a reward Caldwell cashed in last month with his wife, Patty, and children Alexandra, 8; Peter, 7, and Lauren, 4.

Aside from these perks, being a panelist doesn't come with a paycheck. Caldwell's real job is partner at the sales and marketing consulting firm ZS Associates.

"Panelists aren't cast members. We're not employees of Disney," he said, "so we're unbiased and completely uncensored."

They're also semifamous pseudo-cult figures among ardent fans of the Web site. Caldwell and other panelists have been recognized on the street. Well, the streets at Disney.

"You go to the parks," he said, "and sometimes, to the right people, you're a microcelebrity."

The Chicago-Sun Times also included some of Bret's favorite WDW vacation-planning tips:

Chicago-Sun Times - Caldwell's expert advice to vacation planning

December 17, 2008

Disney Dad Bret Caldwell's vacation planning tips:

1. Buy a good guidebook, such as The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2009 (John Wiley & Sons, $20), and do some online research (favorite sites: disneyworldmoms.com, allears.net, mousesavers.com and tour guidemike.com).

2. Use a travel agent who specializes in Disney World. They don't charge anything extra and can help save you money. Magic for Less Travel (themag icforless.com) and Mouse Fan Travel (mousefantravel.com) are both great options.

3. Make some dining reservations 180 days in advance at (407) WDW-DINE. Popular spots like Chef Mickey's, Cinderella's Royal Table and Le Cellier sell out fast.

4. Involve your family in the planning process. Ask about their "must do" attractions and restaurants.

5. Unless you're staying for several weeks, don't try to do everything. Focusing on fewer options usually makes for a more enjoyable and less stressful vacation.

6. Build in midday breaks for naps or pool time. If you're staying more than four days, plan some full-day breaks from the parks for slower activities like shopping or golf.

7. Don't waste money buying water in the parks. You can ask for free ice water at any of the parks' counter service (fast food) restaurants.

8. Use Disney's "Fastpass" queue reservation system to avoid long lines. It's free and available to everyone in the parks.

9. Get to the parks as early as possible, when the lines are shortest.

10. Celebrate something! It doesn't have to be exactly your birthday to celebrate it at Walt Disney World. Simply go to Guest Relations at any park for a "Birthday Button" on whatever day of the year you choose and you'll often get extra attention from Disney employees. Similar buttons exist to celebrate an anniversary, honeymoon or any group gathering. And in 2009, you get free admission on your birthday to one of the theme parks at either Disney World in Florida or Disneyland in California. (You'll have to provide proof of your birthday.)

In case you haven't noticed, the WDW Moms Panel site has introduced a new feature.

"Mom Views" posts a vacation-planning question, then provides responses from multiple Panelists (allowing for varying opinions).

To locate the latest "Mom Views" feature: Look for the dialogue box beneath the "New Videos for Moms, by Moms" box -- to the far right of the Moms Panel homepage.

There are also some new additons to the Mickey Moms Club site. There is a 'press release' of the 2009 Moms Panel as well as a new video on the making of the Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian....along with tips on how you can make a great gingerbread house.

Diane:
Isn't that a cool video about the gingerbread house?! Did you also notice that the video narrator is Michelle, who has been very involved with the Moms Panel (original PR video, training, PR events, etc.)? She's great!

Lori/Scoopy:
Thanks for posting that article. It was a very nice early Christmas gift, and nice way to end my stint on the Panel. :goodvibes

Since the "real" article has such a nice layout, I hope you don't mind if I share it with you guys...

Bret - yes, I LOVED the video! I could almost smell the gingerbread! I did notice Michelle as she was the angel that helped me with my video biography earlier this month. She is a wonderful person and put me at ease...not that I was comfortable filming, but it could have been a lot worse!

And I love your article! Thanks for scanning it in...gives us the full visual. And to think your story took priority over Celine Dion! I bet a year ago you never dreamed of sharing headlines with Celine!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas day!

Great layout Bret - it looks wonderful!!

I'm a little surprised they said Orlando AND Anaheim though. I won't be much help there!

Congrats, that is great press!

Just a quick note to say, "THANK YOU" to this year's Mom Panel!

You guys did a great job this year, and I know you are sad to see it end. However, you have created a legacy and memories that will last a lifetime!

We all loved that you stayed in touch with this thread and hope you will continue to do so this year!

...and a special, "GOOD LUCK" to all of you on the 2009 Moms Panel! Remember, we are living vicariously through you!

Have a wonderful year and remember to have fun! It's your LOVE of Disney that got you where you are!

Debbie

You said it, Debbie! I can't believe the first year of the Moms Panel comes to an end tomorrow! I'm sure I speak for my fellow panelists when I say we will do our best to keep up the legacy in 2009!

If anyone is interested, I've updated my blog over the weekend. I'm still missing my SD card but I will find it eventually!

Just finished reading through your blog Diane.

Thanks for letting me live through you (again)! Great job! :thumbsup2

I hope the rest of your Moms Panel journey is just as sweet as that first training trip.

Deb

And I love your article! Thanks for scanning it in...gives us the full visual. And to think your story took priority over Celine Dion! I bet a year ago you never dreamed of sharing headlines with Celine!

Funny! :teeth: (I was thinking the same thing... above the fold and above Celine Dion to boot! :thumbsup2 )

party: Happy New Year, everyone! party:

So debut of the new Panel is tomorrow, right?

How exciting! Can't wait to check out the new site!

Are the 2008 Moms still going to be providing assistance on a rotating schedule as planned? Will you still be answering questions for all of us or just assisting behind the scenes?

And on another note, has anyone tried the Le Cellier Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup recipe from the Moms Newsletter? If so, how was it??? I am hoping it is: (1) easy to make, and (2) a reasonable substitute for the original!;)
