Adventures of the "Moms" Panel

That's what I did too. And then I came here and thought "Oh no, I didn't put enough thought into it."

Does anyone know how they weed out applications? With so many, there must be criteria for the automatic "no" pile and so on.

Yikes...me too! Just typed away and hit the button without thinking about it too much. :scared1:

After reading all of the concerns about "magnet theft," I've kept mine safely affixed to my fridge! ;) So... Nope! No cracking!

I 'sorta felt bad that -- by sticking it to my refrigerator -- Disney would be losing part of its fleet of moving billboards. :rolleyes1 'Funny thing is: Some neighbors stopped by with their kids, and we invited them in for a while. During the course of conversation, the mom said something like, "I know you're crazy about Disney," then proceeded to ask me a vacation-planning question.

I know I already have a reputation as a Disney-lover, but I've always wondered if spotting my nifty "Mickey Moms Club" magnet helped jog her memory.

So... See? Although I closely guarded my magnet, Disney still might have gotten its money's worth from me. :upsidedow
I think you have the right idea!!!:thumbsup2

My application went in yesterday and I'm Totally Nervous now.

Last year was easy, I typed in a few quick answers and forgot all about it. Even after making it to the second round, I didn't think much of it -- BUT -- when I was selected for a phone interview for the panel, the nerves really hit.

I didn't make it to the panel (obviously :) )... but maybe the second time will go better!:thumbsup2

Hard to believe we've spent a whole year waiting to apply again! And now the REALLY hard part of the waiting begins!

I have this ridiculous fear that they choose the first round based on a lottery--just picked randomly and nothing more. Because going through 20,000 applications sounds overwhelming.

Tell me I'm wrong!!!!!!

By the way, any ideas on how many make it to the second round?

I sweated for the last hour paring down every paragraph and honing my journalism techniques until my brain hurt. I did it in Word, copy and pasted in. Then looked up just as I hit submit and saw "Don't copy and paste into the fields, type directly." UHOH! I hope that right there doesn't put me in the no pile!

Just wondering how many of us here that have applied for the mom panel are local (like Central Floridians)?? Do you think that gives us less of a chance??

I applied and I am in central fl.

It will be great to see how many dissers make it this time around.

They really will read ALL of the applications. Can you imagine? :surfweb:

I think we all owe a few of these :worship: :worship: to the Disney team!!

I did the same thing...how do they know it we pasted or not...?

I'm thinking it will be formatting. I hope it doesn't come out all garbled when they see it. :sad2: There's always next year if it does though. I did it, because I was editing and re-editing so much and parcing down phrases left and right. 100 words or not that was TOUGH!

I noticed that Justin Muchoney (Disney Parks Chief Magic Official) recently updated his Chat with the Chief Magic Official thread to include photos from MagicMeets 2008. If you recall, two of our Panelists (Bret and Kim) attended the event.

The MagicMeets-related stuff starts on Page #33, Post #493
You might recognize a few familiar faces in the photos:

Hint: The first one features Kim's son posing with Justin. The other pictures Kim and Justin.

Oh, and if you skip back to Page #32 of the same thread, you'll note that Justin presented Olympic Champion Michael Phelps with a "Key to the Kingdom" during Phelps' visit to the Walt Disney World Resort. Waaaay cool! (Ratboy/Bret posted a link to some nifty video footage of the event. Check out post #477. The Hometown Parade down Main Street gives me goosebumps! Good stuff! :thumbsup2 )

Finally, returning to talk of the 2009 WDW Moms Panel contest:

Leanne just mentioned it in her blog: Leanne's Life

She also said it's her birthday! (I hope she didn't spend the whole day reading essays... )

I think they said this because eventhough your word doc may have said 100 words, when you copy and paste some words could be left off. This happen to me last year when my word doc said 100 words, but Disney's doc said I had to many. My opinion is they just don't want people pasting and having words left out.

Good to know!

Actually, I would probably love reading them. I'm sure some of them are really interesting.

Oh, yes, don't talk about the Virgin Megastore  either. Dick Van **** is another no-no. And I believe Erin discovered that underwear is off-limits as well. :rotfl2:

--Good luck everyone!!

Anyone who applied for the Moms Panel last year was invited to join a club which was later named Mickey Moms Club (after a vote). We all received a nice welcome package including items with the Mickey Moms Club logo. We also receive semi-monthly newsletters with little downloadable goodies inside. Anyone who applies for the panel this year, will have the opportunity to join the club.

As a current member of the Mickey Moms Club, I hope I get to stay even though I've decided not to reapply for the Panel. Any thoughts?

let the Disney Magic take over your keyboard.

Laura, Oh, so true. Last year I filled out my application from the heart, no editing and pressed submit. I mentioned to my dh "I applied for this Disney Moms thing". And then...forgot all about it. Much more nerve-wracking this year.

Hang in there everyone!!

Kim

Sounds fantastic! I will have to go and do a search now!!!

I need to add you to my friends....what is your name under? Mine is Debbie Staffieri (maiden name there) Hudson....

Thanks Bret! Great idea! :thumbsup2

Do you add someone as your friend by inviting them to be your friend on face book?
