Adventurers' Club as a Solo?

She's adorable! Good thing she was sleeping or she would have stolen the show. I have never been to AC, but in my mind I don't think of it as a bar. It seems like everyone keys in on the show. I would never take my DD's to a bar, I don't even go to bars. From the comments, I picture it more of live entertainment. I'll probably wait another year or so, mostly because I have read many times that patrons wouldn't feel comfortable there if kids were present, although at 5'7" my 18 yr old and 5'8" my 15 yr old most people would not think of them as kids. That's probably another good reason not to take them. Thanks very much for posting your opinion, I'll let you know if we go.

Its really not like a bar....but you do get the impression that getting into the whole show would be much easier after a few drinks (especially if you're a bit shy). Plus a lot of the humor is...shall I say, ribald? Nothing an average 15yo probably hasn't heard, in fact its probably way more tasteful than what a lot of 15yo's hear at school. Some 15yo's are definitely "young adults" where others are not.

But I see where a 15yo who passes for an adult could create completely different issues....as I was once that 15yo. Probably not something you want to expose her to as a parent.

And to actually make an on topic comment...lol....I can't imagine going alone to any place on PI. I'm more of a "keep to myself" sort of person when I'm alone. But that's just me....I can see where it would be fun doing the AC solo if you're outgoing in that way.

I am not terribly outgoing and have been in there solo many times.

My personal opinion (and I am not a parent) is that the place is fine for teenagers, especially those who are into dramatics and/or like that sort of humor. I would not take younger children, but many parents do, especially before 10 PM. I never went there until I was into my 20s but when I was 15 I would have loved the place. A lot of the scripted show is nudge nudge, wink wink, but there are times when improvised occurrences and/or audience interaction can change that.

I usually consider the AC a bar with a show and the Comedy Warehouse a show with a bar. At the AC you can choose to participate or not, since a good deal of the action takes place in the auxiliary rooms and when the performers do work the main salon they usually are pretty good at determining who wants to play and who doesn't.

When you say kids do you mean anyone under 21? We go to WDW 2-3 a year every year (since joining DVC in 98). I have always wanted to go to AC and CW and seriously thought about going in Nov. My neighbor (also a DVCer) who is very conservative said she thought it would be ok to take them (they are 18 & 15). I know this is always a hot topic but the reason I'm asking you guys is because you have been there and you seem conservative. We wouldn't be staying late maybe 10ish or 11:00, your opinions please.

No offense but at 18 years old - your oldest is definitely fine to leave on his own with his younger sibbling....

they could watch a viedo on tv - since you are a DVC member. Or go to the park that is open late night.

I would definitely go - you and your spouse only. At 18 years old your child needs to learn responsbilty. WDW is a great place. He/She aren't alone at WDW and if they need you just leave the the cell phone number.

No offense taken, but DD's have trucked around WDW by themselves for years. These days they often stay out later than me. I am not married and not interested in going by myself. I just kind of got the impression that AC was more of a show than a bar. But I think TDC Nala indicated that I have that backwards. It's no big deal we can wait a few more years. I don't think they are in danger of closing from all the good reviews I see about it.

Alice Sr. – It’s more of a witty “Adult Targeted” comedy act that while scripted has a tendency to derail due to the actors or the audience additional material thrown in at random; spread across four room between two bars. And yes there are always a few that have a few drinks there, and there are some that don’t. A lot of people (not all) have a couple to unwind and this is the perfect place to do it, because here excess laughter and the occasional comment just get worked into the act. Although I wouldn’t recommend going into the library shows if you’re ultra shy, because the actors roam the room and they’ll get ya. J I’ve had to dance twice on stage in front of the whole room without a drink in me during Samantha’s Cabaret (I’m a bit more out-going) Don’t worry though. That treat is reserved for the guys.

I think that going to AC as a solo would be great. I went with DH and sister last time and after 2 kungaloosh's he was saying to me, dont you think that's enough? I smiled said no, and bought him one too.
There were kids at our shows that we saw. At the Balderdash cup there was a family down at the front and half way through it one of the daughters said very loudly, "I dont get this!" She had to be 8 or so. Otis was quick to respond with a quick comeback because everyone heard her. After that show they were gone. My 14 year old nephew who was on the trip went to DisneyQuest while we were at AC, all with cel phones in hand just incase someone decided to head out early we all could communicate.
He was jelous he didnt go when we all were talking about it at Breakfast the next morning. He will be 16 on the next family trip and by his maturity ( Which I think makes the diffrence) if he wants to come in and see the shows he can.
I think it depends on the kid, the maturity level and the parents.

I just kind of got the impression that AC was more of a show than a bar. But I think TDC Nala indicated that I have that backwards.

What I meant by that is that you are in the bar and the show happens around you. In the Comedy Warehouse the show is on the stage in front of you, you sit and watch it and they bring your drinks.

I used to go solo to AC every week in my single days. It really isn't that bad. I went last night with my DH, but he doesn't *get it* so I honestly would have rather been alone.

As for kids, there were a few there last night. While I normally don't have a problem with them there, I sort of changed my tune last night. I really wanted their parents to tell them to shut up, but alas....

Shows during the "free preview" (I think up until 9:00) are a lot tamer than the later shows.

Don't miss Sam's Cabaret... always great. Same "show", but different every time depending on the crowd. That's pee-in-your-pants kind of funny right there.

- you have that right. I always sit close during Samantha's Cabaret. I've been pulled up twice but I enjoy it because I'm goofball. But last time I was there (last month) I was disappointed to see that they got rid of the monkey-nut (for those that haven’t been there it’s not what you may be thinking) J I was really bummed.

You might go to the Adventurers Club solo but you don't feel alone for very long. They are quick to include you there. It is a don't miss. I like to sit in bars and keep to myself normally but AC is just flat fun! I actually miss the place when I come home. Go and have fun!

Everytime I've been the early part of the evening is perfectly fine for older kids...even younger ones with a good sense of humor. My only suggestion...wall flowers should sit along the wall...it seems to be the safest place to be.

After all that I've heard, I'm DYING to go here. But I'm a solo - what do you all think? Will I enjoy it (I'm somewhat outgoing)? Will I be ignored by the "Adventurers"?

You WILL not be ignored, I will assure you of that. Our best time was on our honeymoon...they remembered us all night and wouldn't leave us be. We have been back many times since then, wasn't as fun, but WE always have a good time!
