Adventure of the Seas to sail to/from BAHAMAS this Summer

That won't tempt me to go on a cruise. We don't get off the ship with a cruise that stops in Nassau. Wouldn't fly there just to get on a ship.

Have you actually been to Nassau, other than on a cruise stop?

I find visiting Nassau or Paradise Island as a hotel guest at one of its mega-resorts (Atlantis or Bahamar) is a lot different than being a cruiser on an excursion. I visit Nassau pretty-much annually for spring break, and the resorts are awesome places. The busiest/worst part of the day at Atlantis is while cruisers are visiting. The early and late hours before/after the ship traffic is pleasant and much less crowded. If RCCL were sailing one of the newer ship out of Nassau this summer (assuming DCL cancels summer 2021 sailing), I'd be booking my trip now.

Fair question. No I haven't. But what I've seen when we did get off the ship (including a visit to Atlantis) didn't tempt me at all.

I’m pretty desperate to cruise. The only thing preventing us from doing it is the absence of access to the vaccine. Even though I am not the biggest fan of Nassau, I would definitely go and stay at one of the good resorts for one night before if that was my only option.

Atlantis is not everybody's cup-of-tea (Disney-meets-Vegas on a Caribbean beach), but a multi-day vacation there is the way to go. I too don't get off the ship in Nassau (mostly because I'm there nearly every year), but I won't do a day-trip to Disney (arriving at 11 AM) either, which is kinda what you're doing on a cruise excursion to Atlantis.

But anyway, I suspect that visiting Atlantis will be part of the embarkation procedure. The port in Nassau doesn't yet have the facilities to do check-in for one or two thousand groups (plus luggage) the morning of embarkation. I suspect that Atlantis' conference center (or possibly Bahamar's) will be the check-in location, with shuttles over to the port. The closest hotel to the port (British Colonial Hilton) only has 288 rooms, and 1) its still a bit of a walk over to the port and 2) it probably doesn't have enough space to do check-in. Atlantis is closer to downtown and the port, and already has a fleet of shuttle busses to get people around its property, so it might be the logistically logical choice.

You can book these now on the website.
I tried a mock ballpark booking for the Nassau/Adventure of the Seas cruise for July 17th, balcony.
$3,136.07 USD for the cruise itself for 3 of us, and $1,168.09 for a flight to Nassau from Orlando and 1 night hotel stay. So
$4304.16 which is very steep based on our old style (driving to port and going). Not going to do it, but Nassau will be interesting the day before and during a cruise departure, they have never dealt with anything like that before. (The port itself isn't set up to do embarkations, just quick off/on stops, so anything set up is bound to be tents, and a lot of confusion).

You can book every Saturday from June 12th - Sep 11th.

Itinerary is Nassau->Coco Cay (2 days back to back)->Cozumel->Grand Bahama (Freeport)->Nassau

We just bit the bullet and moved our DCL from this August to next August and booked this RC for August 7. I have absolutely no idea what to expect and have much to read up on now!! I am usually such a planner but we did this so fast. I don't even know how or where we will be getting on the ship! lol

We booked today and are looking forward to it. Aren’t vaccinated yet but should be a month or so prior to the trip. Royal seems to be very generous in their policies should anything go wrong prior to or during the trip which helped us decide to book. Flying into Nassau should be an experience since we always drive to the port. If we couldn’t have used points for the flight we probably wouldn’t have booked or got the vaccine. The $1200-$1500 extra for a flight that we aren’t used to spending is a lot.

Are you sailing on Adventure? EDIT: (Sorry, I just realized which thread I was on).

Main differences between Adventure and DCL ships, in my opinion:

-Obviously, no characters.

-The casino in Adventure is probably my favorite, just for the look (I don’t play ...but loved the statue and decor).

-The cabins definitely won’t be as cute (much older) but they will be comfortable. While the view was great, I would avoid deck 2. The sound of the waves crashing on the hull kept me awake at night during a tempest.

-Bed(s) can be split in two twin beds or be brought together to form a King Bed.

-If you’re not into the menu, one night in the dining room, you can upgrade your menu to something nicer for 20$ dollars more (Filet mignon, surf & turf, etc.)

- They have a great Steakhouse, I haven’t tried Giovanni’s but if it’s as good at Jamie’s... We had a fantastic experience. Both are a bit more laidback than Palo but very nice. ($)

- They have Johnny Rocket’s if you are into diners ($)

- Flowrider, thrill waterslides, super splash zone for kids.

- 2$ mimosas in Windjammer during breakfast.

-The ambiance in Windjammer is pretty nice at night. It feels like a restaurant even though it’s a buffet. The aft view is amazing.

- They have bigger pools and HUGE jacuzzis.

- Great variety of « adult shows »... Not necessarily 18+ but they feel more adult than DCL shows. The skating show is impressive.

-Cleanliness and efficiency/friendliness of the staff is definitely on par with DCL (if not better).

-« Perfect Day at Coco Cay » is spectacular.

-More sales/more affordable souvenirs.

It’s different than DCL but it’s a really good option and you’ll have fun.

Thank you so much! I have been second guessing myself all evening as to whether we made the right decision. We're not snobby people, but we are definitely used to DCL. We've got an 18 and a 20 year old who have never been on anything but DCL, so I think this will be a fun change for them. It will literally be an ADVENTURE! lol

If there is one cruise line I recommend to someone who wants to try branching out from DCL, it’s RCCL. (I’m also a huge fan of Carnival’s new ships but they are very different from DCL... While RCCL would be closer to DCL in style).

I would think an 18 and 20 yr old will like RCCL better. Disney is great but for young adults RCCL has a better suited ship imo. Enjoy your cruise.

Booked Aug 14th. Excited to be cruising again!!!! Never been to Coco Cay or stayed over night in Nassau. All new experiences!!

I just started a thread to discuss the Nassau part of the trip: https://www.disboards.com/threads/p...e-seas-sails-from-nassau-summer-2021.3831007/
