Advantages to booking directly w/ owner?

I'm already in the process of booking my home directly with the owner but I was curious..

I see so many responses that reiterate to go through the owner directly... my common sense thinking says that going through a management company would be safer... so what are the advantages/disadvantages??

The advantage of booking with the owner,is-its their home.They will probably know far more about the home,its community and local area.So can answer specific questions.
I enjoy communicating with future and past guests to answer their questions and find out if they enjoyed their home.

You cant beat the personal touch,

For me it's the #1 reason of the price. Seems you can pay up to 50% more going through a mang. company.

I used to book exclusively with mgmt companies. Now I book with both owners and companies. I have found with owners, it is more personal. The last place I booked from an owner came equipped with everything, and I mean everything we needed, right down to the laundry detergent. It also have DVD's, novels to read, all kinds of paper products. The only thing we needed to buy was food.
