Hi all, hope i have posted this in the correct place and am not repeating a thread...

I have read many threads on people considering/already have small add-ons to their DVC and i am just wondering what are the advantage of this?

I bought 160 points at SSR last year and would really love to buy at AKL but could only afford perhaps 50 points. would there be any point to this as i know that this would not be another home resort so i could not book AKL at 11months.

Help! I am pretty new to this so i could really do with the help. :confused3

If i had known about AKL last year i would not have bought at SSR :headache:

If you bought 50 at AKV, you could bank one year and borrow the next to make a 150 point reservation at the 11-month window.

wen-tom, you WOULD consider AKL as another home resort. Any time you buy points at a DVC resort, you get "home resort" advantages for that number of points. In your example, you could use those 50 AKV points to make a reservation at AKV 11 months in advance. I don't know what those 50points would get you, but you would have a second home resort.

I have points at BCV(165), HH(165) and now AKV(100), so I have 3 home resorts. I can use those points at 11 months at each resort -but at the 7 month mark I can combine them and use all 430 points whenever I want(subject to availability, of course!!)

Hope this help - and, as the pp said, you can always use 3 years at once, by banking and borrowing, and have a 150 point vacation once every three years.

Thanks for your replies. AS we are from the UK, we always make long trips to orlando (14 days) rather than a few days so this is why am not sure if 50points add on would work for us.:confused3

We love AKL (have always stayed there before joining DVC) so would want to guarantee a stay there which to me, would mean being able to book at 11 months. If i dont have enough points to book the full tripat AKL at 1 months i dont know if it would make any sense to buy. i am so confused but i LOVE AKL so much
I am hoping that once the resort is complete, as its going to be quite big we wont have a problem booking at 7 months...

i had thought of the banking and borrowing for 3 years to get 1 trip..

What time of the year do you generally travel? Unless it is peak time, I'm one of those who think the AKL will be relatively easy to get into at the 7 month mark. I assume you'd want a savanna view and those are actually going to be the largest category of available rooms.

Unless you want/need a value room (less points) or a CLub level room (very limited in number), my advice is not to rush into an AKL add on until after the new Kidani building is up and running - you'll probably see that you won't need the 11 month advantage.

WE usually travel during August, and usually for 2 weeks. Although over the years we would like to try different times of the year. i think i will hold of my desicion for a while...

For all of 2007 and early 2008 (Dec 1 07 started the Value and Concierge availability) anything at AKV is at a very high demand (yet there are threads reporting non AKV pts booking success) The next test of availability comes on the 27th when non-AKV pts holders get their 1st crack at the Value and Concierge bookings.

I would pay attention to polls and threads regarding AKV success between now and about Oct for Holiday and Spring Break bookings and then June bookings. I expect you will see more sucess stories. I think when it is complete the AKV will have sufficient capacity to expect to get a booking at the 7 month window for August trips. But that means waiting until after 2009 when the new building is open and operating to make judgements about Aug demand at the resort. IMHO the AKV is going to be great venue and will have a very loyal following (due to the theming and the animals) but DVC has built it large enough that I expect non-AKV owners will be able to get in to teh resort (just shouldn't count on Value or Concirege level rooms).

Thank you all for your help.

I do have a reservation for a 1BR SV in Sep/Oct this year which i was very pleased to be able to get.

We will be going in 2008 but will be happy to stay in another resort (i like the look of WL) 2009 will be our break year so hopefully be 2010 the resort will be fully operational and settled.

Does anyone know how long they will sell AKL for? When will Disneyt stop selling the points as if i wait, i dont want to miss out on the possibility of a small add on if i do decide to go for it.

i understand that i could get a resale but small contarcts are not seen very often.

:)

No one really knows how long it will take AKV to sell out, but it's going to be a big resort, so you should be fine waiting. As well, since you are an owner already you can go on a waitlist with Member Services and ask for a small contract of AKV points. If they sell out and then ROFR a resale contract, you would be first in line for those points. And I think you can be reasonably certain that some people will buy AKV and then have to sell down the road - whether it's because they didn't enjoy the resort as much as they thought they would, or because of money issues, divorce, etc.

I don't think you need to worry!!
