Its been a long time since we have visited - can someone run me through the current ADR system - I think it changed a few times since we visited. We may be going on a "Surprise" Mother daughter trip in May and I was hoping to get my mom and daughter to a few fun places that I know will need ressies for I am looking for info here but just checking in with you all - the room would be under my moms name and the room - I am guessing then all reservations would have be under her name??? We will be staying on Disney property if we go.

You can log onto disneyworld.com and make all your bookings right now, under your own name.
You do not need a resort (room) reservation to book dining reservations.

You are well within the 180-day window for reservations. Many of the most-popular spots (BOG, for example, or CRT or Ohana dinner) will already be taken for May, as reservations for May opened up in December.

You will need a credit card to guarantee your bookings. There will be no penalty for cancellation so long as you do it early enough - although you can usually avoid penalty for day-before or day-of cancellations caused by illness or other problems, so long as you call and speak to a live representative and tell them what has happened.

Your ADRs will not be in your mom's name, or even linked to your resort reservation - since you are inside the 180-day mark, you will not even need to tell them you have a resort reservation to book. Just enter your date, meal/time, and party number on the website and it'll offer you everything it can find around that time. Once you're done, it will e-mail confirmations to your e-mail address, and no one else has to know

I think you are asking about your Dec. 2014 trip. If that is the case then you can not make most ressies until you are 180 days out. If you have the reservation number and are staying on property you can make the ressies at the 180 day mark plus up to 10 days. So if you are staying for example Dec 14-21. You can call 180 days before Dec. 14 and book all the ressies for your entire vacation. If you are staying off property you will have to call or go online each individual day of the 180 day mark. You will also have to leave a credit card number for the cancellation policy.
