Adults only trip and guilt

Guilty, not really. Completely ANXIOUS? Yes.

We are thinking of doing a cruise for our anniversary. I feel a little guilty about spending the money ( I am also a SAHM), and a little guilty about not being with them for a few days...but more than anything, I am stressing over the anxiety about leaving them (oldest is almost 8, I should be over this!)

But to answer your question, I definitely think there is no reason we should feel any guilt! We deserve our time too, as hard as it is to admit :)

I want to know how everyone manages to find people to care for their kids for a full week. I cant even get overnight! Jealous. Enjoy it to all those who get the opportunity.

I'm in the same boat mama bear... Even if I didn't feel guilty- id have no one to help anyways... :( we maybe go on a date every 2 months...

Go & have fun.

I personally wouldn't choose Disney for a kid free trip because (a) my kids love it and (b) as a parent, ALL our family vacations are to "family friendly" places. If I had the rare opportunity to go somewhere with just DW, it'd probably be someplace we'd never consider taking the kids. But, that's just me. Either way, I would be thrilled to be able to take a trip as a couple again. It's been TOO long!

DH and used to go away to the Poconos every year for a weekend when our kids were little. whoopie!!! My mom and his mom (who lived around the corner from each other, literally!) would each keep the kids overnight one night. We were lucky that way. We never felt guilty except once when our oldest dd had a cold that triggered a bad asthma attack.
Now that they are older, and we have figured out from our few trips to WDW that we all LOVE it, I wouldn't be able to go without them as I would rather experience WDW with all my kids and my dgd. I would feel guilty!

For those wondering I don't live in the same town as my family. We live a few hours away so my family don't see my kids as often as they like so they are more than happy to spend a week with them while we go.

We did a kid free trip for our ten year anniversary!

It was perfect!

G rated days, X rated nights.

Sleeping in, drinking wine, doing late night EMH, walking hand in hand after the park closed and just soaking it all in together were priceless.

We came home feeling, and acting, like newlyweds.

Best thing that could have happened for our marriage.

Just bringing back all those memories is amazing. Maybe we should do it again for our 25th anniversary.

So, if you see any love drunk middle aged dorks giggling and staring into each others eyes while we share an ice cream Mickey in October of next year, say Hi!:joker:

No need to feel guilty. We are going kid free in Dec for my bday and I plan to enjoy it. I will miss my kids but looking forward to a kid free Disney trip.

My Inlaws will be staying with my kids for that week.

Absolutely for your 25th! And 20th. And 18th for that matter! :)

I agree with everything you said. And we are doing it again for our 30th. We'll be a pair of "love drunk even older middle aged dorks", too!

Have a great anniversary!

DH and I have always had adults only trips. The last 4 years, since buying into DVC, we have done an extra adults only Disney trip. We love our trips - lots of pool time, lots of great dining, taking Disney tours and doing exactly what we want to do. We only rode 2 rides last year in 7 days.

This year, we are attending the last MNSSHP, the first Christmas party, several Food and Wine seminars, and probably another Disney tour. As much as we love taking our boys to Disney (and we do a couple of times per year), we also look forward to it just being "us" time. It helps to keep our marriage strong, and in the end, that is the best thing you can do for your kids.

No guilt here!

My mom (God bless her!) gives us a week each year. It was her idea the first time we left our oldest and went on vacation. I was skeptical and thought I would miss the baby too much to enjoy anything else. Nope! I ALWAYS cry when I leave the kids (they don't), and it usually lasts through most of the travel day. DH is patient with me, the kids are patient with me and my 57 or so calls to them that day, my mom is patient with me and the incessant need to be sure everything is fine, and then I just relax!

It is a blessing, and it is one I intend to bestow upon my daughters when they have children. This one week out of every 52 does wonders for our marriage. It really recharges us. I recognize we are very, very lucky, and I am very grateful for it.
