Myself and my DH arrive in WDW in October, its our first trip, we're on the QSDP and have booked a couple of TS restaurants which we're paying OOP, however im alittle concerned that some of the restaurants we're eating at the portion sizes are huge (according to the good people on here and friends who've been) and when looking at the menus some of the childrens items seem good enough for me, will the restaurants let me order from the kids menu, or is this frownd upon? Or does it simply depend on the restaurant??

Thanks guys and girls..

yes, an adult will be permitted to order from the children's menu, and while some of the adult portions are on the large side, not all are... you will obviously find more variety on the adult menu...

Check out the link above; this was asked recently. The techincal answer is no. The reality that some people don't want to accept is that the CM's are genery told not to upset the guest by acting as Disney Police. Some restaurants may uphold the rule, but many will not--they just want you to be happy. Keep in mind though if you are unable to you can always just order an appetizer or salad, etc.

I've never had a problem ordering from the kids menu when I've asked. I am diabetic and the smaller portions enforce my portion control! But frequently what is on the kids menu is not something I really want for dinner. So then I look at other options like just ordering something and not eating it all! Or I order soup and salad or an appetizer. When I am really lucky I can get someone to split with me. Then it works out that I can have an appetizer of some sort, half an entree and maybe a few bites of my daughter's dessert.

I haven't run into huge portions lately. Seems like Disney has pretty reasonable servings at the table service restaurants. It is the quick service places that still seem to have pretty big portions to me.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the info. Im from England and my best friend just got back from WDW and we eat very similar size portions and she said she could barely manage most of the portions, and ended up with a fridge full of desserts in her room.. lol..

I am so excited for my first visit!!!

My thinking is - Just because its on your plate, doesn't mean you have to eat it all. You can also ask for a container when they give you the meal so you can put half the food in there before you even start eating. This way it won't even be an issue - out of site, out of mind. Other than that, you can always just order appatizers - something I do often.

Not sure about adults ordering kids' meals - I've heard yes and I've heard no, but I haven't tried it at a TS.

I really enjoy the soups, salads and appetizers at so many Disney restaurants. I order either a soup or salad or an appetizer - sometimes just an appetizer - and that's more than enough. Occasionally, I'll share an entree with our oldest son. Again, it's more than enough for me (maybe not so much for my son - he usually orders soup or an appetizer, too.)

I've tried our pre-schooler's kids' meals a few times - and I have to say that his meal at Jiko was amazing and his meal at Bluezoo was quite good. But generally, you might have good luck with the soups, salads and appetizers. This is one of the reasons we don't do the dining plan anymore - and if you're doing OOP for your TS restaurants, it might work!

It depends on the restaurant. At the plaza restaurant and la hacienda, my 15yr old was not allowed to order from the kids menu. The hostess at the plaza was quite rude about it. However, at HBD my 17 yr old (who always orders from the adult menu) asked to order from the kids menu. The server kindly replied, "you can order anything you like". I can't quite figure it out if it's the management of the restaurant or the individual CM that makes the determination.

I've always been allowed to order from the children's menu without a problem, since I'm the pickier eater. Especially at QS places, I find the children's to be enough and I've even been known to split a children's breakfast which I find to be a better out-of-pocket value.

The only issue that I've run into was that the Grand Floridian cafe waiter told me he would have to make the portion bigger and charge me more which would defeat your purpose. But that's the only place I've ever run into that.

Last month I met up with some family members and my cousin made a late ADR at Le Cellier.

Out of a party of 6, 3 ordered nothing but apps to eat and we are all adults, mid 30s to mid 60s in age.

My own family has an ADR next month and I may just order the cheese soup and then a salad and skip getting an actual entree.
