We dressed up last year and were very much in the minority. I had read all these websites saying adults dressed up so we all went in costume. The only thing good is it totally embarrassed DD (aged 10) that we were dressed. In fact, we were both flappers so we had a lot of practice at "doing the Charleston". Some kids not in costume made fun of DS for being in costume. I guess there are mean kids everywhere.

EGADS! I hope DH doesn't read that cause I've already been gathering up our costumes!

Just curious as to what day in October you went? We're going on the 3rd and I was a tad worried this might be too early to be dressing up.

We went early October and you are right to think that going early might have something to do with it. Sound like LOTS are planning of dressing for the occasion (and it did last year too) but literally last year I saw maybe 10 other adults in costume. By the end of the night we were making comments ot each other about believing what you read and the like. I'd still dress up next time I go since it goes along with the same school of thought "I'd rather be over-dressed than under-dressed". I'd rather be in costume than not. CMs really seemed to like that we were all in the "spirit" of the evening and that added to the fun.

I ordered a Minnie Mouse costume for myself today. It isn't the one in the DisneyStore.com catalog...but what I'd call a sexier Minnie! Hope I can do it justice! ;)

I'm now curious to know what date those who are dressing up are going? We're on the 3rd.

We're going on the 28th as Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. I hope we don't look like fools dressing up, especially on the bus.:earseek:

My whole family (DH, me, DS 17, DD 15 and DS 12) will be dressed as Pirates of the Columbus (Ohio :teeth: ), and various other family members will also be in pirate gear. We'll be trying out our costumes at the Ohio Renaissance Festival in a few weeks - it's Pirate Weekend!

I wonder if we can carry plastic swords in our belts??? Anyone know?

Avast there, me hearties! And like that ;) .

I would love to dress up, but DH is pretty much against it. We have been to MNSSHP 3 times and we have always worn long sleeved tshirts that have cute skeletons on them. I bought them at Old Navy. I imagine that will be our "costume" again this year. It has now become a tradition!

There really are not a lot of adults that dress up, but most kids do. I think you would have a blast in costume, but you also need to consider if you will feel uncomfortable if you are in the minority of those wearing or not wearing costumes.

One year I saw a man with a huge milk carton around his head with the "missing person" above his face...too funny!

Now...Halloween late night at PI is a different story...I would say that more than half the adults there are in costume. Sometimes they have contests and the costumes are simply astounding!

If you go to PI on that night (or any other) be sure to check out the Jazz Club if Toxic Audio is the headliner. They are great. They perform using only their voices to make musical instrument sounds. I hope they are performing this year.

With all this said...Halloween is my favorite time at Disney. I LOVE the boat ride from WL to MK and seeing the park all "spooky". It is a wonderful perspective from the boat. We won't do it this year since we are staying at BWV and I will definitely miss the ride over. It just sets the mood for the whole evening. We have even floated by the electrical parade on that ride!

Have Fun!

In my experience this was not the case. I did not dress up last year and I felt out of place because I didn't. When I saw how many adults were dressed up I was determined to dress up this year. For the record, I attended the party on 10/24 last year. This year I am attending on 10/24, 10/28, and 10/31.

B'rer Karen;

Wow...3 MNSSHP this year! You will have so much fun. Are you wearing the same costume to all of them or will you get to mix it up some? We missed last year, so maybe adults have gotten more into the "spirit" of the event. I would love to see lots of adults dressed. We actually do dress up for or trick or treaters when we stay at home, so I don't know why DH is so against it at WDW. I really think he would be a good GRUMPY!

Yes, I'm spoiling myself this year. Originally I planned on doing it twice. Once with my mom and once by myself when my mom wasn't there. I figured A) she won't ride all the rides and B) this will give me a chance to enjoy the rides and the Halloween festivities. The dates I could go that my mother wouldn't be there were the 24th and the 31st. I really liked the idea of going on Halloween...it is my favorite holiday after all, but I had heard about how crowded it would be and figured it might defeat the purpose of going for a second night. So I planned on the 24th. Then I got to thinking that I really wanted to be there on the 31st just for the atmosphere and the fact that it was Halloween. So that's how I ended up with tickets to 3 nights :)

Right now I am not sure on the costume thing. I know my mom and I will dress up on the 28th. We're going to do some sort of costume that goes together (I'm looking for ideas if anyone has any!). I know I will dress up on the 31st, but I doubt it will be the same costume since we'll be going as a pair and she won't be there on the 31st. I'm thinking of wearing my prom dress (if I can still fit into it...it's been 12 years!) and buying a tiara and going as a generic princess. I wanted to be Maleficent but A) I can't see paying that price for one night's use and B) it's a very heavy costume and I have a feeling I will roast in it.

For the 24th I am up in the air. I may dress up in costume or I may just wear somethign Halloweeny. I have a friend that I'll be travelling with that night so I need to see what he's doing as well. If I dress up I'll probably wear whatever I wear on the 31st.

Are there any costumes "not allowed" by Disney?

I don't mean things in poor taste so much as costumes that look "too good" or too much like the face characters. I'm guessing that they wouldn't want a guest to look too much like a "real" character.

B'rer Karen;

Maybe one night you could do a simple costume. I have always like the idea of socks and funny boxer underwear, etc. pinned on a black sweatsuit and going as "static cling"!

I know you will have so much fun!

That's hilarious! And you could do a black t-shirt and shorts if it were too warm for the sweatsuit. Easy to adapt. I like it!

We're going on the 31st. DS (6) is going to be the Headless Horseman ( I cannot explain the Sleepy Hollow obsession!) so I'll be Katrina. Trying to get DH to be Ichabod :hyper: hahaha

Time for a bump!

One concern I have now that we've already got our costumes in order is that not as many adults will be dressed up on the earlier dates in October. (We are going on the 3rd.)

I hope we don't feel too silly.

See photo, in my Signature!

OK maci, that is too cute! Love your little girl!

Now, what date was that on last year? Early or late October?

It was the 3rd week in October, we actually went to 2 that week!

It was so much fun!! I would definatley suggest dressing up!
My husband is having with drawals this year, from no MNSSHP!!
He had the most fun of all! All the little boys were asking him for autographs, and all night long everyone was saying "Hey Batman!"
My son kept asking why is everyone talking to daddy?:p

I say go for it and dress up!!
