Adults and Tattling at Work

I cannot believe this thread; I had the exact headphone complaint yesterday. My staff is all female (as am I) and the drama wears me down. They complain about Everything. In addition to headphones, I had a complaint about someone not filling the copier with paper, someone not paperclipping properly, another is a busybody, yada yada yada. All in ONE day.

If I had known all those years ago that management had to deal with sort of carp, I would have just stayed an accountant because I really hate this part of my job.

HR chick checking in - I have an over zealous self titled "office manager" who is forever dancing on my last nerve. :headache: She opens mail that she shouldn't, she gives out way to much information on the phone, she reviews applications and then comments on them, she is nosey and feels the need to know EVERYTHING ......she is the food police, the bathroom and hall monitor, the cell phone & cigarette break policy informant (and worst offender) the parking attendant and the phone monitor. While efficient and generally pleasantly annoying, she is a major headache to me.

My favorite responses to her are:
"And this is your problem, WHY?"
or
"why do you care?"
or
The favorite of my favorites "why is it that you think I don't already know?"

I work with all women as well in an office and it can get downright ugly. We actually had someone remove the magents from the fridge in our kitchen because she fet they werent professional. She tattles if someone isnt dressed as nicely as she is - which is not not nice at all, unless you like real mink puffball earrings. Someone should call What Not to Wear on her and tell her it is not cool to wear mink puffball earrings. Sorry, that lady just drives me crazy.

I once had the co-worker from you know where who actually did the 'tattle for being a few minutes late from lunch' one day.

She eventually ended up being fired!!! :rotfl2:

I did not know there was such a thing as mink puffball earrings. Ya learn something new everyday. Perhaps if Cantw8 is still lurking around, she could provide a visual.

I have to tell a story about me "tattling" many, many years ago.

My best friend and I both worked for a very, very conservative bank in Dallas in the early 70s. Their dress codes, etc were really like something out of the 50s.

Our boss was a very, very sweet man who was incredibly shy and non-confrontational. The man really couldn't even look you in the eye.

A new woman came to work in our area who had just moved from San Francisco - in the height of the hippie days. She was very sweet and was not trying to "start" anything - but she would come to work in long granny dresses and braless. It was no protest or anything on her part - just how she was used to dressing.

My BFF and I went into our boss to tell him that he had to tell her to start wearing a bra. Now we were truly just being mean to him - because I've never seen a man more embarrassed than he was. He was no more going to mention the word "bra" to an employee than he was going to strip down naked. We actually like the woman and knew we weren't getting her into any trouble.

We thought it was so funny. In truth we were just being terrible mean girls. I think I was only about 21 or 22 so that's my excuse.

Nobody in our section of the office tattles, but boy howdy, do the people on the other side! They (generally) have what are perceived as less-desirable jobs than we do, so they go out of their way to try to make our work environment as unpleasant as possible. They actually tattled to our boss a few months back that it sounded like we were having too much fun at work and needed to knock it off. :sad2: So now we all frown or look sad and depressed whenever we walk past the tattler's desk.

Thanks for the reminder on why I am a SAHM/SAHW these days....I was beginning to wonder if I should venture out....no thanks! :rotfl::rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rotfl:

Question....

If my cubicle neighbor is snoring very loudly.....would you want someone to tell you? Just 2 days ago I started a thread, my neighbor was taking a morning nap at his desk :confused3 I didn't want to be a tattle-tale, but come-on!!!

I work with a tattler and she knows I know it. I've called her on going to the boss with stupid stuff and she plays dumb. At least own up to your pettiness.

Whatever happened to your crazy coworker?? The one that you had the thread about? I think about her time to time and wonder.

EG traded jobs for another set of whackadoos. Unfortunately, they're not nearly as entertaining as Miss Info.

I didn't want to derail the other thread with my rant, as they're discussing kids, but for the record:

I don't care if Amy has headphones on. I don't care if Hannah is wearing flip flops. I don't care if John came in at 8:02. I don't care if Mike said my skirt was ugly. I don't care if Jen answered her cell at her desk before walking to the hall.

And here's the other thing: even if I DO care, you'll never know it. I'm not discussing the discipline of other employees with you. It's none of your business. Period. I'm not going to give you a wink and a smile to indicate you've single handedly brought down the headphone listening, flip flop wearing, ugly skirt calling, cell phone using personification of evil.

That is all. :surfweb:

Tattle tale.

MODS! M13 is tattling about her coworkers!

Not to step on cantw8, but here's my best pair.

Hmmm. What, exactly, is the correlation between said puffball earrings and Holmes, I wonder? Proof that only the most enlightened people wear puffs?

Oh, and yes...if someone is snoring at their desk, I would want to be told. Because then they're not being productive.

Interesting thread. I once had the worst co-workers. I'm glad I don't work with them anymore.

Hey, I think I saw them on an old espisode of Star Trek "The Trouble with Tribbles". ;)

Well I have to meet with one of my employees today because the rest of the crew are going to riot if I don't do something about her. I think she needs medication but of course can't say that. My assistant told me my staff is thinking about shooting her with horse tranquilizers. :rotfl:

Maybe it's time for you to take a nice, long lunch and let the mob deal with their own. :rotfl: :rotfl:
