Adult Pool ?

Here are some additional pool questions for anyone willing to answer:

Are the pools freshwater or saltwater?

Are they drained daily? If not, how are they cleaned?

From everything I have read, I don't think my DD & I will ever go near the Goofy pool!! I am totally germphobic, and that pool sounds as nasty as those tubes the kids crawl around in Chuck E. Cheese!! :rotfl:

Do they have policies regarding untoilet trained kids in the pool?

Jin -

- Freshwater pools only.

- I don't know if it is cleaned daily, but it seems to have a high chlorine content on the adult side. Probably same on the kids side

- The policy regarding non-potty trained kids is that none are allowed in the pools, save for an "ear" of the Mickey Pool, and that's only with swim diapers.

- I read an article about safety stuff on cruises in "Cruise Travel" magazine, and it's required they test pH, temp, etc multiple times daily. With that, I'd probably be inclined to say cruise ship pools are safer than your average pool. Much safer than chuck 'e cheese's tubes too I would imagine!

On our cruise, the adult pool was literally standing room only on "at sea" days!

Fortunately, we went up early and parked ourselves on some lounge chairs and stayed there until late afternoon. I did go get some lunch at one point, but I brought it back and except for bio breaks, we were there the entire time. That pool was FULL and there was a CM who was actively taking care of chairs that were saved and not being used, as well as checking ID's and enforcing the no children policy.

I believe that your daughter will have a chance to swim in the goofy pool without TONS of kids. I would assume the California Cruises would have the Pool Party nights like there are on the regular cruises. I would look at the naivgators online. I think I saw a pool party listed for the Teen age group. So that would mean teens only at the Goofy pool that night...(This is just from what I have read up on not experience so correct me if I am wrong)

When my DDs wanted to join us at the adult pool, we obtained seats on Deck 10. Then we could use the pool and still hang out with our girls.

It's usually crowded on sea days, you have to get there to get a lounger. The best time to check it out is the first day you're onship before sailing. It was quiet and we met alot of friendly people.

Thanks for all the info, seems as the original poster of this thread, I was not the only one with a few questions. However, I have no children, so glad to read, the rules are enforced. ;) Makes some of us happy and others not. :hyper: At least no one said the water got "cloudy", or "murky" :earseek: .

Thanks again, MKY princess:

3 things.......the glass partition is only on one side of the ship...not the other. I don't think DCL can completely block off that end of the ship to everyone under 18....people must be able to travel through to the elevators/stairs to get to their cabins below....that is why I think they only have the partition on one side of the ship and the other side of the ship for thru traffic....I could be wrong but this is how I see it. I am a stickler for rules and I would not want to break any but if DCL wanted that end of the ship to be strictly 18 and older I think they would have put partitions with signs on both Port and Starboard sides of the ship.

The sign on the partition does indeed say "This area is exclusively for guests 18 years and older" but on 10 DCL cruises I have never seen a CM tell anyone they cannot walk on Deck 9 past the adult pool. I have seen them tell people to leave the immediate pool/chair area, though. I am also a big believer in the adult only areas being adult only but I think it is impractical to think that people should not be able to walk past the pool on Deck 9 on the side that does not have the partition.

If the adult pool is so sparsely occupied, why is it (according to Passporter) the biggest pool? Seems to me that the family pool ought to be the biggest pool, seeing that this a DISNEY cruise will naturally attract a lot of families.

If the adult pool is listed as the biggest pool, could it be because they are including the platform around the pool?

I know the adult pool (the 6? feet deep section) is relatively small, but it's surrounded by a 3-4" deep shelf that probably has more surface area that that the pool itself. However, the family pool lacks this "shelf" if I remember correctly.

So if I'm right, it is quite possible that the family "pool" is bigger than the adult "pool", but the adult "water area" might be much bigger than the family "water area".

The only problem I have with the adult pool is parents who think the rules do not apply to them. Every cruise there are usually serval babies/toddlers in strollers in the adult pool area. I think adult pool should be for adults only. If you have your young child with them, bring them to the other pool.

MKY princess:

I could stand in it and it wasn't over my head and I am only 5'5".

My experience with the adult pool was the pool was too deep for my mother that is just shy of 5 feet tall. She cant swim so she had to hold onto the side of the pool as to not go under. It gives the appearance of being large when in fact it is not. The perimeter of the pool is a place to sit in about 4 inches of water and stretch your legs straight out. So the actual pool is really small and narrow. It was peaceful though. Still wished that they had the lively music playing there instead of elevator music. I also found that the pool was extremely warm (June) and it was so hot we could not bare sitting in the hot tub.

mmouse37 - I sent you a pm. I know this thread is a little old, so I hope you see this post!

Know what I'd do if I were in charge of the world? I'd make the adults pool a FAMILY POOL UNTIL NOON, then it'd revert to adults-only at lunchtime. That'd give families a bit more elbow room in the morning, then the adults (who aren't as likely to want to swim at the crack of dawn anyway) would have a break from the kiddos in the afternoon.

That's not a bad idea. I am afraid that the plan would backfire, as the pool would need to close for a while each day to clean out the urine...

Keep your kids in the kids pool and leave the adults alone. Nobody thinks your kids are as cute as you do.
