Adult ordering from child's menu?

A smaller bill usually gets the server a smaller tip, which I have mixed feelings about. I wonder if ordering off of the kids menu or appetizers only would be less discouraged if we tipped as if we had ordered a full meal? I could see me ordering off of the kids menu in the future, so I've been thinking about how to handle this...

The only time I tried it was at Coral Reef because all I wanted was the fried shrimp that day. I was told no - kids menus are set for a reason, for kids. Our server didn't seem happy then when I just ordered the lobster bisque then because I said none of the other meals sounded good to me at that time.

Quite a few times on our last trip my boys ordered an adult meal to share and I ordered a kids meal....now they're nearly 8 and will probably be ordering an adult each, but I'll stick with the kids size!
Luckily they are more 'salmon & rice' rather than 'burger & fries' types of kids or I'd be controlling their portion sizes!

I was wondering about ordering the Kids Grilled Shrimp meal at BOG they don't have this as a choice for adults, and it sounds good. Anyone ever order it? wondering how small it is (how many shrimp)?

Most restaurants will let anyone order from the kids' menu, but once in a while there will be a server or restaurant that enforces the "Ages 3-9" that is printed on the menu.

If I am paying out of pocket, can I order from the child's menu? For example, at Sci-Fi, I would probably want a salad and maybe a small child's burger. Is that possible to do?

Absolutely !! We are here now, and that's all we've been seeing !! People ordering kids meals, off the child's menu, and sharing meals !! We did it today --- we had dinner at "Via Napoli", but wanted a quick bite for lunch -- ordered 3 kids meals at the Electric Umbrella --- at just about all of the TS meals that we've had so far, we have noticed people sharing meals -- and I think a lot has to do with the prices these days ! We live in NYC, so we are used to paying a lot for meals, but it really is getting crazy --- our first night, we went to "Teppan Edo" -- we love the restaurant, but the prices are pretty crazy, especially given the portion size --- 2 hrs later, we were starved !!

On our trip last July, I ordered from the kids menu at TS and QS numerous time. The CMs did not say anything.

My kids had the grilled shrimp at BOG a few weeks ago and I want to say there were four shrimp in the kids meal. Not a big portion at all.

As long as they let us all order the chocolate mousse off of the kids menu at Le Cellier I will be happy. We (my wife and I) will order meals off of the adult menu but the choc mousse is no longer listed on the adult desert menu and is only on the kids one. Last time we were at that restaurant it was on the adult menu and we loved it. Not sure why they removed it from the adult menu. :confused3
