My wife and I are 30 years old. We are DVC members and take two trips to disney world a year, one longer trip with our two children and one shorter trip no kids.

We are planning our adult trip for May 2022 and have been looking at adding a disney cruise to the trip, specifically a 3 night Bahamas itinerary on the dream paying cash. We have never been on a disney cruise but did do a Bermuda cruise through royal Caribbean and loved it! Is the disney dream still worth the price if we’re going without the kids? Are there events or pools/areas that are adult only? Thank you

Do it!! And change to a 4 night cruise. You’ll love it.

If you enjoy Disney then you'll definitely love a Disney cruise. The Dream/Fantasy both have impressive adult areas with satellite falls being a major highlight along with cove cafe. The rainforest room is also worth the daily price of admission or get a couples pass for the entire length of the cruise.

We have done a few cruises without our kids when they were younger, and now we have taken them as adults. I find the adult areas are so well regulated, its a great cruise for adults only. ;) We are hoping (but probably not) to go on the Dream without them in August but we will be sailing with them again in February, ages in the 20s and 50s.

Go for it. We absolutely enjoy the adult-only areas on the Dream/Fantasy. And if your budget allows it: cruise for 4 nights.

Yes, the Disney Dream has an adult only pool and hot tubs, an adult only lounging area on deck, an adult only cafe, adult only upcharge restaurants, adult only nightclubs, shows & games in the evening (although DCL doesn't offer anything truly late night), and an adult only beach on Castaway Cay, complete with cabanas that might be available to rent if you book concierge or else get very lucky & find availability. Imo it's a great ship to sail adults only, as long as you enjoy the Disney spirit and you're not looking for nightlife. I would be less likely to recommend the Disney Wish, because from the information they've shared, it seems to have less extensive adult only areas.

A 3-night on the Dream is a great cruise getaway and a perfect introduction to DCL. Enjoy!

Thank you everyone for the links and suggestions. We booked the 3 night Bahamas itinerary on the Dream from May 13-16! Since there were hardly any midship interior rooms left we splurged on the 6th deck verandah starboard side. The spa and adults only pool/lounge sold my wife and I. Linked to that cruise will be a 4 night stay at the Polynesian once the 11th month booking window opens. Thanks again all!

I’m saying this as someone who is slowly branching out of DCL (mostly due to my husband who doesn’t want to sail with them anymore and friends who do not want to pay those prices)… IMO, the first DCL cruise always feels special and worth it.

Recommendation: the price difference between 3 nights and 4 nights is usually not bad and it would give you more time to enjoy the ship + the specialty dining (Especially Palo Brunch… and Remy!)

Have fun! I'm sure you'll enjoy it and want to book another cruise. If you do, be sure to book a cruise or a placeholder onboard to get that 10% onboard booking discount.

I would also recommend upping to a 4-night cruise with a day at sea! We were going to do a 6-night cruise without the kids last year, but you know, Covid! Eventually we will do a Disney Cruise without the kids, because it would be such a unique and fun experience!

YES! YES! YES!

Hubby and I did a 4 night before we had kids and loved it. I agree with all the PP-- add the 4th night if possible. It will give you time to explore the ship!

If you love WDW you will absolutely love DCL.

Totally a different feeling doing a cruise compared to a Disney World trip. It is much more relaxed and there isn't the "go go go" mentality.

I think the only way we will do the 4 night instead of the 3 night would be to go in February where the cost is cheaper. Does anyone have experience with the Bahamas in February, seems like it would still be pretty chilly, especially the ocean.

Here are a couple of recent threads on the topic:

Weather in Feb

Cruising in January

Bottom line is that yes, the ocean at Castaway Cay is always chilly in winter (but many, including us, have no problem swimming in it), and as far as air temperature goes, weather is usually warm in February, but you could get unlucky and have a pretty cool (not in the good way) cruise. Our next cruise is in February so I'm not afraid of that (and I prefer a non-sweltering Castaway Cay & a pool deck that won't burn your feet), but some wouldn't like it.

I'll also mention that we've done two 3-night cruises, three 7-night cruises, and one 5-night cruise, and we loved every cruise. This is a cruise board so the posters here tend to prefer long cruises and many have never even sailed a 3-night, because "I would never- just too short". But as I said before, 3 nights is a really nice getaway and a great intro to DCL.

If you sail for 3 nights, here are a few tips on making the most of a short cruise:

  • I recommend flying in the night before so that you're rested at embarkation and can get to the ship relatively early, to make the most of your first day.
  • Check most of your luggage in at the port so that you don't have a lot to weigh you down until the staterooms open up around 1pm. The pools & waterslides open at noon, so you can start having fun right away and make embarkation day feel full and fun.
  • Once you're in your stateroom & your luggage has been delivered (typically by 5pm), fully unpack & put things away properly, so that your stateroom feels like a relaxing home away from home, rather than a place where you're living out of your luggage & it's a challenge to find things.
  • Don't feel like you have to do everything DCL offers or that people on here urge you to do. Just do what appeals to you, even if that's chilling out watching Disney On Demand in your stateroom for an evening. That isn't wasting time- it's getting the full relaxation that you're paying for. You can't do it all in one cruise (even on a 7-night cruise) and there can always be another cruise, so just do what appeals to you in the moment, and let the rest go.
  • Try to not be rushed off the ship on disembarkation day. If you can schedule a departure flight that won't make you feel rushed and stressed, that will allow the last morning to be pleasant, as well.
