How many camp at FW as a couple with no children? Would we be the only ones? We are retiring next winter and would love to make plans to stop in FWE for a couple days in our motorhome. Won't be able to bring the grandkids this trip. Will we still have a good time as a couple?

We spent 13 days in Fort Wilderness on our honeymoon, just the two of us. We had a great time, we enjoyed some activities at the Fort and spent 4 days visiting the parks, the most fun we had was visiting the other resorts on Disney property, we always used Disney transportation to do that. That made it very interesting.

THANKS. We went to WDW on our honeymoon 43 years ago and have been back many times since, staying at various resorts. Cannot wait to camp at FW and go at our own pace. We love going with our daughter and grandkids, but we cover SO much ground so fast! Still have two or three parks to see.

Tring to figure out how to put our Disney experiences on here.

2) I would camp, but my idea of "Roughing It" means the TV Remote batteries die.
3) Our kids are well beyond Empty Nest stage (in fact when the last one left, we moved without giving our new Zip Code).
4) We have great fun at The Fort, including meeting other adults.

We are empty nesters, and like you, spent our honeymoon at Disney World almost 44 years ago. After a lengthy absence, we have returned camping at the Fort, and LOVE every moment there. Some trips have been accompanied by children and GC, others not, and some have been a week longer alone after they leave, wondering what the heck just ran over Grammy and Papa! Enjoy, it is a very fun experience as a " sort of senior" walking around as newlyweds without the baggage. We have only 6 1/2 months until our next trip to the Fort.

We have been camping more years as empty nesters than we did with our three children!! In fact, dare I say, we enjoy our camping times now more than ever - more relaxation, rest, spur of the moment decisions, etc. etc. etc.

We take many trips a year now - no work schedules - so we can take off most times when we're ready. Having the children was great, but does not in any way diminish what we enjoy on our trips now.

By no means will you be the only ones - in fact most of the times we enjoy going, we see mostly couples, with a few families thrown in. Go, and have fun!!

I have seen countless couples at the Fort over the years just walking or sitting around and relaxing. You would be far from alone I assure you of that.

My DH says his idea of camping is staying at a Holiday Inn. However, somehow he listened and has given into my dream of having a motorhome (38' w 3 slides) and traveling around the country. We bought a previously owned motorhome last year and can't wait to take a long trip in it after he retires. So far our longest stay has been 3 nights.
Our last stay at Disney prior to this past week, when we cruised on the Disney Dream and then stayed at WDW Port Orleans Riverside, was in the cabins in FW. It was then that I decided that one place I want to stay is FW.
You are lucky to be able to go 3 to 4 times a year.

We have reservations from Dec. 30 - January 12, or 11. We r on the road now so I did not look at our reservation end date. We drive from Wisconsin, and love the Fort. You will see Disney in a whole different way. Love and smile at overstimulated children at the Parks and at the boat landing, snicker, say " been there, done that". We did. DCL January of 2015 and then stayed at the Beach Club. Loved it there, but missed the Fort. Let me know when you will be there. We would like to add in days, but do not see any openings yet. Barb

We have no kids We have only gone by ourselves and have never been uncomfortable.
Well we do have the furbabies ( 2 dogs 2 cats ) and we do bring them and they love it. The Girls (the dogs) find kids to lick the Mickey Bars right out of. Our last trip was in Jan. and outside of weekends most occupants of The Fort were more established adults like ourselves and we enjoyed talking with them and just hanging out. You'll most likely find you will enjoy yourselves

Cousins do all the time and it is very popular with all adult groups, retires traveling etc. GO FOR IT!

If we leave our kids in the camper, can we join you for coffee? We will be there too I find Fort Wilderness just like any great resort except you bring your own bed and no housekeeping. It's a great vacation place (we don't go to parks while we are there, we just enjoy the resort).

I would love to meet another DISer. We found our Minnesota neighbor a couple winters ago, and then last January, Melissa from Illinois. Very soon, she should be sharing her happy news of a newborn soon. And of course, wonderful Denise, our Moderator. She was here last winter. She and frank stopped several times to visit. Love early mornings, coffee, fellowship, friendship, etc. Bill and a I are in. It brings an inner peace with a whole lot of pixie dust sprinkled on, and enough laughter to know this is a happy place, for those who wish to share, we will have lots of Wisconsin Cheese, sausage, Spotted Cow Beer, (my favorite!). We are in a premium site so anybody's site would work.

In my future I will have no problem camping at the Fort with just me and DW.

DW and I stayed 16 days in Dec 2014. Great trip! I know at least 2 other campers close to us was just 2 adults, one across the road was a mother and grown son. Cute little story about them, one day we were on the boat to MK and son sat next to us with a popcorn container, said Mom wanted some popcorn so he was headed over to MK to get the container filled and go back. They also told us that the way they picked what park to go to was head to the bus stop and whatever bus showed up first was the park they went to!
