Ads are horrendous!

For the hundredth time, block Java Script. The site works mostly fine without it. I block Java Script on my browser for JUST this site. I never see any ads.

Blocking Java Script can also cause some other unrelated websites to not function properly. I use adblock and it works on ALL of the sites not just here.

You can just set the browser to block Java Script on THIS ONE SITE. At least, Chrome lets you do this. I have it set this way on all my devices. I have no issues with any other sites because I set this site as an exception to the "allow Javascript" permissions.

I once again just sent a pm to webmasters corey, alex, and pete, asking what can be done. I got no reply the last time. The one this morning was so huge that it took up the whole half of the page. No point in putting it on the tech board, as I have never received a reply when that happens. These ads are getting more and more annoying, and the larger they get, the more annoying. They all say they are google ads, so maybe the webmasters need to contact Chrome and Google and find out what is going on !

I already did that a long time ago, maybe on the 5'th time you suggested it,,lol...still getting the ads!

Everyone has their favorite but I have always stuck with ublock Origin. I didn't even know this site had ad's.

Been using ad block plus for quite some time. (Using Safari). No major ads here or anywhere else for that matter. Best part is it's free. Also doesn't interfere with the functionality of the pages.

I use Chrome and ad block plus..and am still getting the ads, as are quite a few other DIS'ers. No idea why it lets them through ad block on Chrome, but this isn't the first time it's happened. Last time the webmasters had to contact Google and Chrome and rectify the problem.

Not sure if all versions are the same, but I know with OS X and Safari, you can open the app itself from the apps folder. This allows you to "uncheck" "Allow acceptable ads". This greatly reduced the number of ads I was seeing.

I don't know why the team allows obtrusive ads, oh wait yes I do. "It's all about the money," even though more and more studies show obtrusive adds drive customers away. Just seems like they are doing nothing even after lots of complaints, pretty much they are asking you to install an ad-blocker it seems.

If you use Firefox install the NoScript add-on. But I warn you that you will be shocked and irritated how many scrips your favorite websites use. NoScript allows you to block individual scripts, so it is annoying at first to setup and allow (or deny). It makes it easy to block ad scripts and it's another layer of protection.

Sounds like user error. You should not see any ads if you block JS, as they are all powered by it. I literally see NONE with JS blocked. Do you use Chrome? If not, try that.

Your home page should look like this:

591137

I use Chrome and ad block plus and have not been getting ads since I added ad block plus, over 2-3 years ago.

If it's any help, I use, amongst other things, the following and have zero ads or warnings:

Mac OS
Safari
Duck Duck Go Privacy Suite
