ADRs? We Don't Need No Stinking ADRs - A Sept '14 Dining Report - THAT'S A WRAP 3/5

Okay, I'm a little late, but I'm joining in now!

You had me at FREE BEER. I mean, that will get me every time. :thumbsup2
Yup, FREE BEER is some magical words. Glad to have ya.

Hi! I'm really enjoying your reviews so far. I especially like your views on WL Club Level. I hope that someday when we go back to WL we will be able to try CL.

Can't wait to try the avocado margarita at San Angel in April. We also have a Flying Fish ADR so looking forward to that.

Your dog is adorable. What breed is he? We adopted a Lab/Great Pyrenees mix this year but she's only going to top out at about 70-80 pounds. :)

If you can swing it, club level is worth trying at least once. Not sure how often we'll end up doing it, but if the stars and $$$ align its well worth it.

The avocado margarita is the best drink I've ever had. Definitely give it a try. Flying fish will be coming up soon, so stay tuned.

The dog is a Newfoundland. We're crazy enough that we have 2 - Mallory and Duval named after our other favorite place to visit - Key West. Because it makes complete sense to name artic water rescue dogs after America's caribbean island ; ) They weigh 110 and 170 lbs respectively so 80 pounds sounds wonderful to me.

Thanks for following along.

Thanks to everyone who is still following along. Had a bit of a delay after an amazing adults-only week in Mexico. In typical DIS fashion I tried to get the bartenders to make me an avocado margarita, to no avail though. Somehow I managed to survive the week on cerveza and plain ole margaritas.

On the heels of Turkey Day, today we'll be taking a visit to Liberty Tree Tavern but a bit more back story before we get there.

Day 5 started with our last club level breakfast. It was bitter sweet being our last, but we were looking forward to checking into Boardwalk for the first time later in the day. After gorging myself on fruit, croissants, and espresso we were off to the Magic Kingdom.

On the way in, we popped into the barber shop to see if they could take Casey. At 3 1/2 her hair was s....l.....o.......w to come in so I was hesitant to take scissors to what we waited for so long for. We've also never booked a trip for more than 6 months in advance so BBB is out of the question, so this was the best we could so. Aside from it being the worlds shortest haircut (apparently it only takes 2.5 seconds to cut little people hair), she loved the pixie dust and was quite pleased with herself.

We showed off the new do my posing for a crane - um I mean castle - photo. This was Casey's 3rd trip to the world and 3rd trip with that darn crane out. At this point she just thinks Cinderella spends her spare time doing construction around the castle. #modernprincess

After a spin on some magic carpets, a meet and greet with a street rat, and a lovely cruise with Johnny Depp we had fast passes for splash mountain. Despite this being our 2nd cruise through the old south, Casey wasn't thrilled the water was messing up her hair...

With our bellies rumbling I looked online to see if there were any ressies at a table service restaurant to get us out of the heat and was very surprised to see LTT had an opening in an hour. Quickly jumped on that one and then we bided our time on the wildest ride in the west before checking in on 999 deadly haunts. Spooky...

We checked in for the ressie behind a wonderfully understanding man who couldn't comprehend why his party of 9 with no ADR couldn't be seated right away. After listening to his logical arguments - but we have kids and we're hungry - we were soon on our way to the table. This was our first time in LTT and I was impressed by all the founding father chicness. And from a girl from Virginia whose been dragged to one to many historical homes and taverns - they did a pretty good job.

After examining the menu - brought to us by ocean spray craisins, random - Jason went for the Angus Chuck Cheeseburger topped with bacon, cheddar, and mushrooms.

He said this was good (I wouldn't touch it due to the aforementioned mushrooms), but they needed to offer a temperature to cook it to as he is a medium rare man and was faced with a decidedly very well done burger.

I had every intention of ordering the colony salad so I could have a healthier option and of course pay homage to our ocean spray host, but I got lost in all the colonial goodness and elected for Casey and I to share the Pilgrim's Feast - Traditional Roast Turkey served with Herb Bread Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans.

The turkey was very moist (though not as moist as our turkey day bird, thank you Jason) and the gravy had a nice peppery taste to it - though I could have used some more on the plate. The potatoes were standard order and the beans solid, but the stuffing was a little too stove-toppy for my liking.

Of course we hadn't left room for D-sert (as Casey calls it) but couldn't resist the temptation of a little dessert that has reached legendary status here on the DIS. Meet the most awesome dessert of our trip, otherwise known as Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake - Vanilla Cake with a Gooey Toffee Filling, Caramel Sauce, and Vanilla Ice Cream...

Oh my ooey gooey bliss. I couldn't believe this cake was ooey, gooey, and toffee exactly as promised. My only complaint would be the too much ice cream to cake ratio, but otherwise it was sweet and salty and soft and crunchy and absolute perfection. We literally licked the plate clean.

Our server was kind enough to bring Casey her own ice cream with red, white and blue mickey sprinkles. I'd like to think he did this out of the goodness of his heart, but I think he really knew there was no chance we were sharing the toffee cake with the kid ; )

Overall this was a great meal and a pleasant escape from the heat of the park. I may even book an ADR ahead of time next trip just for the break. With our tables in wonderland card we saved $9.01.

From there we had a quick visit with talking mickey (I know I'm in the minority but I find him a bit creepy) who danced with Casey before hitting the bus stop for Boardwalk. It was a long wait for the bus (I missed the WL boat already), but Casey amused herself my doing a little housekeeping on her rented stroller...

Up next....Boardwalk Check-in and my #1 disney food addiction

Kari! You're making me so hungry!

I've never done San Angel Inn or Liberty Tree Tavern, and you make them both look AMAZING. I don't think either is an option for my next trip (over a year away and I've already made my short list of restaurant choices), but I'll definitely keep an open mind about these two spots for the 2016 trip!

Casey looks adorbs in her pigtails!

Gosh, I miss the food at WL Club Level already, and you just left! (That Shepherd's Pie looked incredible!)

Looking forward to seeing your room at Boardwalk! :thumbsup2

Casey is so cute getting her hair cut!

LTT is one of my favorites at MK. I don't think I've eaten anything there I didn't like, but you can't beat the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. Possibly the best dessert in all of WDW!

Hi Kari,

I am brand new to this forum, and I am loving your report! My husband and I are taking our 7-year old daughter on her very first Disney World trip in February. It's great to be able to get so much information from people on this board while I am planning our trip.

I can't wait to read the rest of your report :)

Yeah, you have another trip planned. If you can't fit San Angel or LTT in, at least head over to La Cava and have a margarita. Oh so yummy.

The club level food was great, but I miss the wine ;)
Thanks for this amazing review... Subbing from the UK!
Thanks for joining in from across the pond. Hope you enjoy the rest.
Just found your report joining in!
The more the merrier, thanks for following along.

She loved her haircut and we got #2 over the weekend. Except Mommy made the bad decision to try some bangs out and suddenly remembered why I haven't had any in 20+ years. Just one more thing to maintain ; )

Agree on the ooey gooey, it was our fav desert of the trip.

Hi Laura, thanks so much for joining the food party. How exciting to be planning your first trip, you've definitely come to the right place. Hope you enjoy the rest.

With Casey's freshly cleaned stroller in hand, we boarded our first bus to the boardwalk. Checkin was a breeze and our bags from WL were already there. We got to the room (1 bedroom villa) and OMG this place was massive. Here's a couple of quick pics....

The Kitchen (won't be using that)

And a few living room (aka Casey's bedroom) pics...

And the bedroom

I didn't take any bathroom pictures, but it was split in two (shower on one side/bath tub on the other) which made it really nice to still take showers when Casey was napping. Overall we liked the Boardwalk and loved the walk to Epcot, but it seemed a little sterile to me and was missing the specialness that we'd just experienced at WL. Don't get me wrong, I'll take BW any day but something about the Nantucket Grandma Chic Style just didn't vibe with me the way WL did.

So now on to what I know you're all here for FOOD and my one must do (Hi Stacy) each and every trip - Via Napoli!!!! Jason and I had fallen in love with Via Napoli soon after it opened, aka the trip when I was pregnant and couldn't decide between two pizzas so I just ordered both. Seemed a reasonable hormonal decision at the time. It also meant that I'd discovered the 2 best pizza's in all the world and would forever experience a Sophie's choice each time we returned. But more on that later.

We decided to head over without a ressie and try our luck with an early dinner around 4:30. Thankfully they were able to take us (Spice Road was our back-up) and after about 20 minutes we were seated and greeted by our server who promptly told us this was his first day and we were his first table. I was expecting the worst, but he was mildly attentive and at least brought me more wine without asking.

We quickly ordered our drinks (Jason got a hoppy beer called Alla Spina and I indulged in a Super Tuscan red wine from Argiano). I'm more of a Miller Lite girl so I wasn't a huge fan of Jason's beer but my wine was robust and a little spicy - which is my fav. For some reason we felt a need to read the menu, but this was pointless as we both knew what was in store for us.

Jason ordered what has become his standard - the individual Piccante Pizza which is tomato sauce, Italian spicy sausage, mozzarella, plus he always adds Broccoli Rabe.

This was perfection as usual. The sausage has a nice kick to it and the broccoli rabe adds a nice bitterness that contrasts well with the sausage and sauce (I may have had one...or two...or three bites).

Now for my Sophie's choice dilemma. My two favorite foods in the entire world are prosciutto and artichokes. I will eat either at any time, in any place, for any meal, and will literally slap them on anything. So of course Via Napoli has amazing pizza with both. The Carciofi has artichokes and another perennial fav of mine - truffle oil - and the Prosciutto e Melone Pizza (clever name huh) combines salty prosciutto with sweet melon and peppery arugula. Both are amazing flavor combinations. So unable to convince Jason to order one of them, Casey and I decided to go with the....

Carciofi Pizza - white pizza, artichoke, fontina, mozzarella, truffle oil to which we also added arugula in homage to the prosciutto pizza. Casey loves artichokes too (she can scarf down an entire one all by her self) so ultimately i let her make the call. As always it was pure perfection. The fontina and mozz combo add both creaminess and saltiness, the artichokes are clearly not standard grocery store order, and the truffle oil adds an earthiness and flavor that is truly unique. The arugula was a great add, as it added some pepper flavor and crunch. Speaking of crunch the crust was nice and charred with just the right amount of chew. Can you tell I was in pizza heaven?

So was Casey!

We elected to skip desert in favor of some libations around the world showcase. With our tables in wonderland card we saved $19.90.

In case you couldn't tell Via Napoli was another outstanding meal. In retrospect i should have ordered a prosciutto pizza to take back to the room with us and actually use the kitchen to heat it up later ; ) The service is only ever mediocre, but that pizza just can't be beat. It will remain a can't miss, must do each and every trip for us.

Up next some indulgences around the world and a sweet treat.

So glad to read this!! I've been wanting to go to Via Napoli for a few years and with the newer Italian places showing up I was torn... Definitely don't consider myself torn anymore!!

I agree with Via Napoli we loved it last trip definitely a place I would recommend to people.

Reading along. :):):) I agree on VN... That truffle oil artichoke pizza is by far the best slice of anything I have ever had!!!! :lmao: the arugula looks good on top as well!

Now I'm craving pizza! And have an overwhelming desire to try artichoke again, since I think I don't like it.

Looking forward to reading more!

so far ...wonderful reviews...AND YUP..I am hungry too for Disney fare..

OH those donuts at the water park are my favorite...I do ask for no sugar on them and then they taste like my nana's donuts from yesteryear..

thanks so much for your great photos and reviews..

After going to Via Napoli, the only thing that will be torn is the pizza after you rip into it. It's pure pizza perfection.
So Totally late to this party, but I am here! Catching up.
I like to say fashionably late. Thanks for coming along on the journey.

Amen sista!

Glad to have another truffle and artichoke lover join the party. So totally craving some as I type this right now. Try the arugula some time. Adds some nice crunch and bite.

That looks so yummy, cant wait to try that pizza now.
Don't walk, run, run, run to the pizza ; )

Be and you both are craving pizza. I seriously yearn for that stuff every day. Artichokes are definitely love it or hate it kind of thing. They are a family tradition of ours so it's in our blood to be on the love side.

MMM, will have to get the donuts without sugar as I traditionally just like a plain one. Thanks for following along.

After an amazing dinner at Via Napoli, Jason took Casey over to Germany to watch the train (that kid could spend hours there) while I stayed in Italy to get a few bottles of wine for our room (no more club level for us). The selection wasn't as robust as I'd hoped, but I was able to pick up a few Italian reds.

We let Casey continue to watch the trains while we partook of some german beverages - Zwei Bier Bitte....

Jason enjoyed the Oktoberfest and the one pictured above is my Schofferhofer Grapefruit. I'd never had this before, but it tasted like a fresca mixed with beer without the diet taste. It was very refreshing and good.

From there we were headed to Casey's favorite ride at Ep-A-Cot (and our least favorite), Journey into Imagination aka Figment. However, when we stopped in Africa to play some drums I looked at at the phone and realized it was closed much to Casey's dismay. We bribed her with the promise of some chocolate and decided to call it an early night.

Taking advantage of the walk to the boardwalk, we stopped at boardwalk bakery and got some treats to go. Making the same decision as every other 3 year old in the park, Casey chose a frozen snowflake cookie

This pure 3-year old sugary bliss.

Jason settled on this little beauty....

Peanut butter Cake! He said this was very rich but had a good amount of peanut butter flavor. I have a peanut allergy so none for me.

I decided to go for the Salted Caramel Ganache.

The caramel in this was really good and it had lots of salt, which I loved, and it had some banana undertones to it. But the shell it was in was just blah so I elected to just eat the caramel out of it.

We washed ours down with a nice chianti made exclusively for Disney

This didn't hold a candle to my super tuscan from earlier in the night, but for $16.95 not a bad buy.

Coming up, our only not so good food day of the trip.

Via Napoli looks so amazing! We're doing Biergarten and San Angel Inn when we're in Epcot. I think I might have to try to convince DH to let me switch San Angel to Via Napoli.

I had no idea you could get wine in Italy at Epcot. Obviously I haven't explored the WS very well. We're staying at YC so I will definitely be stocking up. Enjoying your reviews!
