My wife and I are going at the end of May. We didn't get the dinning plan because we are light eaters and generally share things when we go out to eat.

We do want to do at least one nice meal at a sit down restaurant while a Disney World. Should we decide now where we want to eat at and make a reservation? Or are we even able to make and ADR without having a dining plan?

Any recommendations of where to go?

I would recommend making an ADR if you know what restaurant you'd like to try, especially if you are hoping for a nice sit down dinner. You do not need to be on the dining plan to make reservations.

I'd probably make a couple just so you definitely have a place to eat. You can always canx w/out penalty.

I always make ADRs for dinner. You never know how crowded it will be and if there will be a problem eating at the popular times (7-8 PM). We cancel some and and move some around. The really popular restaurants and character meals can be tough to book at the last minute, but don't hesitate to try. We've been able to walk up and get seated within 30 minutes, but not usually at the most popular places.

I would definitely suggest a couple ADRs...I had to make some last minute changes yesterday to my itinerary and for a couple of my dates there was absolutely no availability for the times I wanted.
