ADR suggestions/tips

I am taking my kids (14 and 12) the third week in August (I have yet to figure out how to add the countdown to my profile) anyway we have alot of time to decide on our ADRs. We went in 2006 same week and it was so hot we didn't really feel like eating lunch. My kids usually enjoy breakfast but not right when they get up and we were running out the door pretty early last time. I plan to bring snacks/breakfast stuff and we have a fridge swap all set up. It is kind of hard to stop running around for dinner as well but hey we gotta eat sometime right? We are staying at the Pop by the way.

These are the table service (TS) resturants that I would like to try. I do have free dining so I am trying to plan it out, if I don't get my first choices what would be a good second choice? Any suggestions for counter service places?

The days of the week we hit the resturant doesn't really matter to us, we just want to go and have fun (I will have a plan when the schedule comes out, but I don't want it to be a minute by minute trip). Are there certain days that are easier to book?

Ohana for dinner (I plan to watch Wishes and the Electric Light Parade from the beach) What is a good time for a ressie?

Chef Mickey's we did this for dinner before and my kids loved it, not hearing great reviews lately though...

Rainforest Cafe or should I go for the Tusker House? According to my book TH is fast food, but I am seeing alot of ADRs for it.

Your ideas sound good. Tusker House is not fast food - it is a buffet. The food is good and better than Rainforest, IMO. Not any specific days are easier to book, during free dining ADRs can be tough. If you are looking to see Wishes from Ohana, try to book about an hour before Wishes is to start. That way you can try to get seated.

Tusker House changed a while back from counter service to a TS buffet. Breakfast is a character meal with Donald and friends (specifically, Mickey, Goofy, and Daisy) in safari gear. A limited number of lunch seatings offer reserved seats at the Nemo show later in the afternoon.

You're at the age when my DD wanted to try more "upscale" eating places rather than the character buffets. We love many of the Epcot restaurants--Le Cellier, Coral Reef, Chefs de France, Teppanyaki.

We've found that the food is better quality than the buffets, and we always have more than enough food.

Call exactly at your 90 day mark, and first thing in the morning when they open. 7am EST! You are more likely to get your choice.

My kids still like the character breakfasts. My son the 14 year old is the one that wanted to go back to CRT because he said the service was excellent. LOL I wasn't sure about Crystal Palace though.

So the Rainforest cafe is not on the dining plan well I guess that explains why it isn't listed. I thought it was a typo? Funny.

What about counter service places? Any recommendations? My kids are basic they like pizza, subs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, mac and cheese, ahhh thats about it.

Almost all CS places have kids selections.

Flame Tree BBQ (AK)
Yak & Yeti - CS (AK)

I printed out all the menus and sat down with the kids to figure out what they would like best. We now have all our CS meals picked even down to what they want to eat and drink at each.

I wouldn't waste the $$$ on the Fantasmic package, the sections the keep for the packages are far from the best...would you consider a dinner in the BC/YC/BW area?

Yak & Yeti would be my choice, very good food & atmosphere. One of the last places I would eat is RFC.

Food is terrible, you'll see that on many posts. I was there last month & it was just simply gross plus the restaurant itself is very dirty.

I am open to all suggestions. We do not have a plan in place yet. I am just looking for some good food and simple fare that the kids will eat.

Cheesecake Factory express is no longer open (it was in DisneyQuest), been closed about a year.

Boma at AK is pretty cool with basic and more unique offerings. I think your kids could enjoy it. We found going the day we left AK to be a good option. AK generally closes pretty early (5pm, maybe as late at 7pm). We ate a CS breakfast that morning, had a snack in the park and a great dinner at Boma. Inside AK many like Flametree BBQ for CS. I was at Pop last month and didn't see any sort of premade sandwich (other than the Uncrustable PB&J) that you could take to the park.

You know your kids, but as they are getting to be teens, sleeping in often becomes more the norm. Keep that in mind as you plan meals. You may find they'll want to do all of the late night EMHs (usually midnight to 2am closes) and start the days a bit later. In those cases breakfast or an early lunch at Pop might work for you.

Though stopping for lunch was hard for your crew one place in MK that might be a good option is Main Street Bakery. You could use one CS credit to grab a premade sandwich (we loved the Basil Mozz), dessert(it is a bakery, yum) and a bottled drink. The three of you could easily share that while standing in line for a ride or waiting for a show.

Boma looks good as does the Flametree BBQ. Question though, how long does it take to get to AKL from AK? We will not have a car.

Same question for the Yacht & BC for Cape May Cafe which also looks good.

I don't think my son will like the Yak and Yeti because he is not big on chinese food and that is what it appears to be. I will leave them home next time and go there myself. Kidding

Its a 5 minute bus ride from AK to the Lodge. You can actually see the Lodge as soon as the bus exits right out of the AK lot. By the way its bus stop #7 at AKL for the Lodge bus.
