ADR Sold Out 9/9-18

I have read these boards for years and a lot of people always say to make advance dining reservations. I never do and have always been able to eat pretty much where ever and when ever we want. We usually go during either May or September. This year is our first year with the Disney Dining Plan and we are going 9/9-18. However, this year we have seen everyone "panicking" about not being able to get the ADR's they wanted because places were sold out.

I just thought you were all drinking weird Kool-aid again because we never have a problem dining at WDW. However, all that changed yesterday when I called just for the heck of it to see for myself. You were right! While we were able to get most of what we wanted, we were told that during our ENTIRE stay, there was not a single table available for dinner at either Le Cellier or The Coral Reef. Two of our favorites.

We have been to WDW in September many times and never encountered any problem. Obviously the free DDP is working for Disney getting people in the parks. I just hope they are not too busy. September is our favorite time because of the light crowds. I Just wanted to say I am sorry I doubted the wisdom of the almighty DIS boards and also to say THANK YOU for convincing me to book our ADR now!

Thanks for the update. It isn't surprising, and points out just how over-popular the Dining Plan is, and how ripe the whole concept is for a realignment with Disney's capacity.

Keep trying! That's what a lot of people here were saying and I had all my ADR's for our trip 9/17-9/23 except I couldn't get Spoodles when I wanted it for our party of 6. I just thought to give them another call and I just got off the phone with WDW and I now have an ADR at Spoodles right when I wanted it! Cancelled one at Cape May Buffet at 6 on 9/19 if anyone is interested.

I hope this post is coherent -- I've been up since 1:30 and I'm trying to get it together to take DD5 to preschool.

Try ADRs for a Grand Gathering. lol

I was shocked that I was able to get seating for Illuminations at the Rose & Crown, as well as firework seating at the California Grill. Otherwise, all my ADRs are split up tables (for 9).

I've had trouble getting ADR's for our trip 9/22 through 9/29. I've gotten everything worked out, but it wasn't easy and we didn't get our 1st or even 2nd choices.

do they guarantee seating for Illuminations for a Grand Gathering or are you just trying to time it perfectly so that you are at R&C for Illuminations?

we're a GG and it just dawned on me that when i made my ADRs i did not give our GG #... was i supposed to?

I second calling back to see if anything's opened. I got Sci Fi for lunch at 11am (which is great) and wanted Mama Melrose's with the Fantasmic package that night (we're doing MGM that day and don't have hopper tickets). Well ... The only time we can get into Mama Melrose's is at 3:30. That's a little too close to lunch for me, but I took it because of the difficulty of getting ADRs. I called back this morning to try to change another ADR (from Chef Mickey's for breakfast to Cape May for dinner) and amazingly got the exact time I wanted, and I decided to check on the Mama Melrose situation. Still no better openings, but the cm told me to check back periodically, especially a couple of weeks before our trip (something about "tables opening" a couple of weeks before?).

Flexibility is definitely the key. The ONLY time during the entire day we'll be at Epcot that we could get Coral Reef is for a 3:20 late lunch/early dinner (the cm said that technically it's still lunchtime). It's a "must eat at" place for us, so I nabbed the ressie and we'll work around it. I'm not even going to try to bother to change that one ...

I don't think this necessarily means that there will be dramatically more people in the parks. I still think we should see relatively low attendance (compared to July)-but the difference is, that everyone going to WDW this time of year will be eating at the onsite restaurants. I think there are normally a lot of peole who would eat mostly counter service, or eat offsite to save a little $$- but since its free....
The UG is predicting relatively low crowds for the time you specified. At least this way you will be able to try something different- maybe you will have a new favorite after this trip!

It looks like we'll be there the same time. I wonder if you picked up the Cape May ADR that I cancelled this morning? We're also going to Sci Fi and Coral Reef.

No, it was for the 19th at 6. Both Cape May and Spoodles look good and we haven't been to either, and Spoodles gets great reviews so I switched. Next time, we'll have to try Cape May.

On the 22nd we'll be dining with the princesses in Epcot.

I just got an ADR for lunch at Coral Reef today for 9/11. I figured it was EMH at Epcot, why not!

We found the parks to be very busy when we were there in Sept 2005. We have gone in Jan, April, May and Sept...Sept was by far the busiest time we were ever there!

we also called 2 weeks ago to get Le Cellier or The Coral Reef for dinner with no luck.
BUT we were able to get them for lunch .. so if your open to lunch you may want to call back and book them for lunch ..

we are looking foraward to our 2 big lunches ....

it took at lease 7 calls to get all my ADR done .. we were lucky to able to get every place we wanted to eat. yay

i will stress if you haven't made your adr's do them asap because they are booking up fast ...

I made all my ADR at my 180 day mark, before the "free dining" came out. When that came out I was able to add 2 more days to our trip so trying to reschedule ressies has been really difficult. MGM sold out for dinner, except for a 3:30 seating. I just can't do that to my kids. They would be starving later on. But the person on the phone told me to just keep trying and I will. I was wondering if anyone experienced this last year but then as their trip got closer and other people changed thier plans, did you get what you wanted?

I went in mid September last year, and though the restaurants were packed, the rides were practically walk-on.

My friend, hubby and 2 kids went last year, mid Sept, on a whim. Not only was it not that crowded, she got most of her ADR's INCLUDING Cinderella's Royal Table! So I am hopeful. I was just wondering what other people's experiences were or if hers was a fluke, LOL

Another friend goes today and I'm so excited for them, its their first trip! I'm going to be through the roof by the time September comes for us!!
