Okay back ground:- we're planning our first stay as members for this Oct and my family is driving me nuts on dining.:headache: OTOH I knew this would happen so it is all my own fault....

we have 1 2 bdrm + 1 studio, party total of 6. I had wanted to try for a Grand Villa but the sister in the studio is uncertain if she is coming hence the current arrangements. She also lives in Florida.

Other sister and I in 2nd bd are perfectly happy w/ a DDP and we were considering the Dx DDP, sister in studio wants to try DDE card out, but isn't certain she is going to be there.

Here the boggle question: Can I make ADRs at Boma's and CRT, tell them I'm using the DDP; then when we actually dine there - change to using the DDE and charge it to the studio room? Is that permitted?

Is there an official link to the DDE card, and can FL residents also get it at the parks or is that just AP holders?

I'm mostly concerned about the ADRs where Disney wants you to prepay - cause it would be my cc on the line not anyone elses:lmao: and it looks like I'll be paying for a tour or 2 up front for all of us too.....

T.I.A.!

You don't have to tell them how you are going to pay when you make ADRs - I usually make mine well before I've decided whether or not to DDP and I just answer the "Will be using the DDP?" question by saying "I'm not sure yet."

Even with the DDP - you have to reserve CRT and CG with a CC.

Yep I'm clear on having to make ADR and use a CC to guarantee it:goodvibes , but I'm pretty sure that if you aren't on DDP, CRT and Boma, actually any of the preset price meals, require prepayment. I know in 2006 if we hadn't been on DDP we would have had to pay for Boma's at the time of making the ADR

Has that changed?

CRT, yes, you do prepay. There are several restaurants where you need a CC guarantee but Bomas, no. We eat at Bomas almost every trip and have yet to give a credit card when we've made ADRs (we go at least 3 times a year). We do tell the server that we will be using DDE at the beginning of the meal.

Have never used DDP.

If you are dining on a holiday, they often require you to give them a credit card when you make your dining reservation. Other than that, I think only CRT and HDD require prepayment.

Okay, let's work with CRT then, as I just mentioned in another thread my eye and memory are a bit iffy  I swear I remember my TA saying I would have had to prepay at Boma's, and the Luau too but she may have been mis-informed. Anyway I'll knock Boma's off the potential problem list

So - if we book CRT and say we are using the DDP, and give a cc to guarantee the ADR - can we change to using DDE and charging to the room at the time of dining? Anyone know?

Thanks!:wizard:

For any place where you'd have to prepay, you can change from DDP to paying OOP (with discounts if applicable) at the time of service. The real question is the reverse (getting your money back if you've already paid but change to DDP) and I don't know that answer for certain. Actually this is the perfect opportunity for both DDE and DDP. Having the situation where you could get the plan for one room and not the other is one of the ways to legally get the best value from the DDP. But it's also the perfect circumstance for the DDE. You'll need to be together to use the DDE discount but not the DDP. So for anything that requires you to prepay just tell them you'll have the DDP, you may still need to give a CC in case you don't show up.

Bumping for the move from DVC-Planning . . . .....

I just made ADR's about a 2 weeks ago and had to prepay for the Luau at the Polynesian, already hit the CC too.

Thanks Dean!

Just the info I was looking for:teacher: I don't want to break any Disney rules but being able to switch at dining will make this alot easier-- or at least one less worry on my check list:thumbsup2

Thank you all for the replies~

I agree that you can always change from DDP to OOP(with DDE) at the restaurant. The opposite is true also. Everyone has to pay at the time of booking CRT regardless of any dining plan. And starbox is right. When you make dining reservations you'll be asked if you will be on a plan but there is no problem if you haven't decided.

Not sure what Dean meant about legally getting the best value. Only those on the DDP will be able to use credits.

Your sister who wants to do DDE should do the math and make sure it will actually give her good value. Will she have enough TS meals with enough people to realize any savings once she's recouped the cost of the card? Anyway, I haven't seen anyone post if FL residents can buy DDE at GS but I would certainly think so. Hopefully someone will know.

Simply there there are ways within the rules to increase or decrease the value of the plan and that there are ways to do so that are outside the rules as written and a few in betweens. Here's an example. With 2 rooms one can manipulate those staying in each room and thus whether you can/must get the DDP for them. Kids work the best for this where if they're under 10 you wan them included but if they're 10 or over and not big eaters, you don't want to have to pay the adult price. The gray area is do they really stay in the room where they are listed, with kids you never know.

Just thought you'd like to know -

I tried to make reservations for CRT for Thurs 10/30 - last night of our trip, and since we are over the # of dining credits we were asked to prepay. It was a truly bad phone connection or else I might have tried a bit harder to get it under the dining plan credits

I can't swing $250 this month after the vet bill came in so I opted for reservations at Artist Point:thumbsup2 I may try back again, since we really did want to eat at CRT for our 10th anniversary but I'm thinking AP is a very nice second choice:lmao:

Now let's see what the family has to say....:scared1:

I'm confused about paying in advance???

I just booked all of my ADRs for the last week in Oct. We are staying 10 nights...but I booked a total of 15 TS restaurants (we like sit down meals.:)

They asked at the beginning if I had the dining plan and I said yes but I obviously don't have enough credits for all the meals. I'm planning to pay out of pocket for several...just haven't decided which ones yet (and they didn't ask). They did take my credit card info for several and told me the cancellation policy but said that they would not charge my credit card it was just a "hold".

This is what I booked:

Day 1: Teppan Edo

Day 2: CRT for breakfast (2TS)...credit card required (need to cancel 24 hrs in advance or I think you lose the full amount) and Chef Mickey's for dinner

Day 3: Cap N Jacks for dinner

Day 4: Kona Cafe for dinner

Day 5: Fantasmic Dinner Package at Brown Derby (2TS)...credit card required (need to cancel 48 hrs in advance or $10 charge per person)

Day6: Akershus Princess breakfast...credit card required (need to cancel 48 hrs in advance or $10 charge per person) and Biergarten for dinner

Day 7: Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show (2TS) (need to cancel 48 hrs in advance or I think you lose the full amount)...credit card required

Day 8: Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner

Day 9: Nothing...we're going to the beach

Day 10: Ohana for breakfast...and Teppan Edo for dinner

My ADRs as follows: All party of 6

Sun Boma 5:30pm
Mon Le Cellier 7:20 pm 2 tables nothing free Mon-Thurs for 1 table for 6
Tues California Grill 7:30
Weds Citricos 5:30
Thurs Artist Point 6:35

I tried to make CRT for Thursday and the reservationist on the phone said (I think- again it was a really bad connection with both of us yelling and repeating info - gold star for effort to her truely~) we had to pre pay, I said: Dining plan, She said: You don't have enough credits, Me: but we don't know which meals we want to us the credit for, Her: you need deluxe plan or you need to prepay, Me - <sigh> how about Artist point?:rotfl:

I've gotten some feedback already from the family and most seem happier with AP, I'm starting to think I was being humored as far as CRT went - if anything I'd say the responses have been relieved. Hmm maybe a private lunch.....:lmao:

But thanks for the feedback!

Michelle
