Adoption Updates

Rumors are beginning to trickle in! Some are saying that referrals have been sent...others are saying soon!! Hang in there monami7!!

I have heard the rumors too. Maybe tomorrow or Thursday! I feel like I am going crazy. What a wierd feeling. Princess Aurora's little picture is already o it's way to us!

Hi!

I am a reader of this thread too but I haven't posted. From the research I've done, it appears that Korea and Guatamala allow agencies that use escorts, so it is not always necessary to fly. I can relate. I always said I would adopt and have never flown and don't plan on it. For many reasons, DH and I have chosen to go through our county's Foster/Adopt program.:)

This was accurate in our case. Our son Alec traveled from Korea to the states (with an escort) when he was 6 mos. old. Mrs. Hound met the plane in LA and flew with Alec (by themselves) from LA to Texas (where we had a big family welcome in the Airport).

Alec is now 8....so this would have been in Aug. of '99.

Reasons we didn't "go to Korea":

- About $3000 difference. (We put $2000 in an account and will all go to Korea when he is a teen).

- I spoke with people at the workshops. Every person i spoke to said they didn't see much (if anything) of Korea because once they picked up the baby, off they went. Every male i spoke to said if they had it to do over again, they would would use the escort and pocket the difference.

Sorry i just jumped in kinda off topic. I should have said "hi everybody" :yay:

Adoption has been a great thing in our home....& it has improved the average IQ of our family by a good 20 points. :thumbsup2

I remember that feeeling well. I can't wait to see your princess! We just celebrated our 8 month gotcha day anniversary.

Hound, just be sure that before you travel with your DS to Korea when he's a teenager that you'll be safe in having them allow him to come home with you. We were warned by some people that if we take our DS to Russia before he's 18, the Russians can keep him and enlist him in the army because he holds dual citizenship until his 18th birthday.

Do I know that this is true? No. But, the Russian government would know that he was born in Russia by looking at his American passport. Is it worth the risk? No. I'd definitely check into the validity of this warning if the opportunity arose to go there before his 18th birthday.

Just some food for thought.

I hope you get your referral this week, monami7! Hopefully in time for the 4th of July. Imagine the celebration next year if you get your referral tomorrow!

Thanks for the advice, RUDisney....we'll definitely do ALOT of research before we even talk about a trip to Korea.

If it's an issue, we'll just go half way to Korea.....maybe Kaui. :cool1:

have you gotten word from your agency that they are expecting referrals??

I was just on RQ, and see that some agencies are contacting families w/ LID's up to 11/14...........have you heard anything?!

How exciting! Can't wait to be in your shoes "someday"!!

Happy 4th everyone!!

Monami- I hope you've heard by now!!!

To the person who asked about not flying, Ethiopia also allows escorting, and you don't have to be 30 (I'm not).

We are actually in Addis Ababa now, in my room at the Hilton with my little boy sleeping by me (dh got the in room internet to keep tabs on works and I took it over for a little bit of home after being gone for 3 weeks... we went to Italy for a week before coming here). We brought our 2 bio kids and my parents with us. Its been a fantastic experience in Ethiopia and Micah is such a sweet, loving and ACTIVE little boy. It is so fun to see how quickly he is taking everything in. His english is growing by leaps and bounds every day. And every little disovery is so fun (first trip to the park, baths, light switches, ketchup!!). We were able to meet his birth father which was such a huge blessing. He is a wonderful man and smiles so much (as does our son). I love that we can tell him he has his birth father's smile. We even recorded a video message from him to our son. We will maintain contact with him and Micah's 4 older siblings. Its been a crazy emotional ride but nothing but joy since we took custody of Micah (6 days ago). Its crazy that we met our son just 11 days ago and are soo totally head over heels in love with him.

We come home in 2 days and then I'll start planning that all important first... first trip to Disney ;) (aiming for Oct).

Yes we should finally see Princess Aurora in 2 weeks. We are starting to get excited around here.

I remember that time so many years ago now, but I carried that picture everywhere. Both kids. You look at the picture all day long, I made copies for my family. My youngest son was born in The Phillipines and they made life books for all the kids so you got a chance to see where they were living, also after he was referred to us, they wanted the name we were going to use, they start using that name with them.

With my oldest son born in Korea, I received a packet of pictures of him having his travel physical and and I saw how much he had grown since the referral picture.

Gosh, I am crying.

Holy cow!! Not only are referrals on their way, (RQ has it as an R5 that they were sent yesterday!!) but May 2006 is out of the review room! That was quick, considering how long they took to get through April of 2006!!

Monami...are you okay?? lol...You get to see your daughter's face in just a few days!!! Woooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Rachel, I am so happy for you! I can't wait for you to get home so we can see pictures of your newest DS!

Have a safe trip home!

I was checking in on RQ, and clicked on the blogs with their baby's pictures, and was surprised to see Miss Aurora Grace staring back at me! Funny how RQ and Dis coincide in life!

Just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS! She is adorable!!! She shares my dd's birthday! My dd was born 1/6/05!

So happy to see your good news! Can't wait to be in your shoes one day in the far, far future!!!!

All the best!

OK I am sorry it took me so long!! WE HAVE OUR PRINCESSES REFFERAL!!!

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

The refferal came today at 11am. I grabbed Lilly and ran out the door. We got to the agency in record time. The rest of the day has been a whirlwind of emails and phone calls and a trip to the DR for Lilly imunisations and to check Rory's medicals! She is a big baby, very healthy! She is so beautiful!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

She is 6 months old today!!! That is young as you can hope for. She has reddish blond hair!!!

Please go see her on my blog. We already sent back our acceptance letters. They are on there way back to Chinma as we speak. We should be able to go get her in 5 to 6 weeks.
