Adoption Updates

Congrats Kim.

We too are LID Nov. 9,2005 It has been over 17 months since we had LID and over 2 years since we started. I know that it is an agency specific thing but you may be in luck. I know time wise I could have gone through almost 3 PG's before we get Rory home. We did complete Lilly's entire adoption in the middle of our wait.
Good Luck and I am so happy for you!
Heidi

   Yay, Kim! Everything happens for a reason and one of your reasons is to give birth to a baby before you adopt! I am so very happy for you! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Congratulations Kim! Wow- in a way, it's good that your dh was hesitant about KZ- you could've been hip deep in the process and not be able to travel, etc now. As for China- I think you're right about it being workable given the length of the process now, you can be going to China to get your dd and taking a toddler with you!

Julie

Congrats Kim!!

I would check with your agency as to the best way to proceed at this point...

Anyone care do join me in going insane??

Sorry I just am going nuts here. I know I've only been waiting 5 weeks, which is NOTHING compared to some of you, but I am officially in the range when I could get referral now and I keep getting told I could get the call THIS week.... or in a few months. They won't give me anything more specific then that I am close. I do know our agency is in the month of March for processing referrals for toddler boys, but I don't know where in March they are. My official on the list date is March 21. It's been super quiet from them this month as far as referrals go (only 5 for our program that weren't waiting children and none for toddler boys), so people are expecting a bunch to come through soon. I am just losing my mind here. I have 2 more papers to write for class TONIGHT and can't get anything done. If any of you guys pray I would love some prayers for patience.

WOW you will be a mommy soon. I am not so patiently waiting with you. I find it impossible to not think about Rory. We really don't know if China will get to us (Nov. 9, 2005) This month or in 4 months. it is crazy not knowing! If it makes you feel better we have been persuing adopting Aurora from China for 26 months now!

Did all of you know that Walt Disney adopted his children.

And glad to hear how everyone is progressing.

Our news is not good. Kazakhstan was a disaster from the time we got out to the region- plenty of bad behavior and deception on the part of the in-country team (we weren't shown any children in the age range we specified, they insisted there were none when we knew there were, etc), and little support from our agency at home. We even went to two regions. We had to come home when my elderly father was very ill (he's pulling through for now, but has terminal cancer) and when we tried to contact the agency about returning to finish our process, they were reluctant to make arrangements, so we won't be completing our adoption. We're hoping to get some money back, but our agency isn't helping saying it's up to the staff in KZ.

Anyway- we realized that wasn't where our boy was, and are soldiering on with another country- one we had discussed initially but rejected because my family would have "issues" with it-- Ethiopia. We'll be taking our two big kids, but not our little one, because we think the trip will be too hard on her, and it'll be distracting to have her and the new child(ren) if we can adopt a sibling group of two for that initial bonding period

So thanks again. Now that dad is getting out of the care center, I hope to have more Distime.

Julie

 I am so sorry to hear that after traveling all that way and all the effort you put into it that things fell through. I hope Ethiopia is a great experience for you and poo on anyone who has issues with it. I'm counting on getting some uneducated comments when its our turn but too bad. My little family is my life everyday and I am going to do what makes us happy, not anyone else. Keep us posted on the Ethiopia progress- are you trying for a sibling group specifically?

The flight isn't bad- been to China and Kazakhstan. If you can- avoid the Frankfurt, Germany airport (this is a sure thing since you're going to China) the McDonalds there charges .25 Euros per packed of ketchup, and the airport is less than desirable.

As far as toilets in China- we were told by our guides to use the handicapped toilets if they had them, not to mention that most places they'll take you to will have at least one Western-style toilet. Our oldest dd (she was 11 when we went to China) is proud of the fact that in two weeks she never used a squat toilet. Just wait until we go to Ethiopia and we go out to the middle of nowhere to meet birth relatives. She'll be lucky a crocodile doesn't bite her butt. :rotfl2:

Julie

Good advice, I appreciate it. Your daughter sounds a lot like me. Tell her to watch out for those crocodiles :rotfl2:

Thanks for all the support. I missed coming by here.

For all you China moms-to-be, it's our fault the wait is so long, I'm sure. We're just really bad luck. When we started our process in May 2005 the wait from LID to referral was 6 months. We were LID 11/05, and our group hasn't gotten referrals yet! The only reason we have Madalyn home is because she was a special needs adoption, and we were processed very quickly because of that.

Hang in there guys! Maybe things will be speed up again.

Julie

May I ask how the special needs process was? We're considering that when our time comes. There are things that they consider special needs that I wouldn't even bat an eye at. I have a son with special needs and two of my three have medical problems so I am already no stranger to the children's hospital and specialists and surgeries and whatnot. There are some that I don't think I could deal with but there are a lot of waiting children that I just can't believe are considered special needs. Anyhoo, I'd love to hear how it was for you if you don't mind.

Hi everyone...

I'm so sorry I have been MIA. It has been quite a month. My husband had a lot of issues with travel to Kaz. That coupled with other reasons left us not sure what to do. We decided to take a break to regroup.

Fast forward to today... a few hours ago... I'm pregnant according to 2 pregnancy tests. I have so many mixed emotions that I'm not sure what to do with them. I was hesitant posting this because I don't want to be insensitive to those who suffer with infertility. We never pursued fertility treatments because we knew we were meant to adopt. Our chances to conceive were slim but there was a possibility. We figured if it happened we would welcome the extra blessing and we are. We are thrilled. We are still going to proceed with China although I have to see how this would come into play. I know that we could have this baby and still be ready to go to China with how long that process takes but I'm not sure we are allowed to submit anything while pregnant.

So, anyway... sorry if I'm rambling... I'm still in shock :scared1:

First and foremost:

That is great news!! I know this probably doesn't make sense to anyone but me, but having gone through infertility treatments I am so happy for you that you were able to conceive. It would be hard to hear if you were like my friend who gets pregnant every time her DH sneezes near her. I'd been trying for over a year when she told me she was preggo yet again (not trying). And then my cousin got his gf pregnant WHILE THEY WERE SPLIT UP! :rolleyes1  Things like that hurt, someone who was in the same boat and gets pregnant? That's a miracle, and it gives me hope. I hope you have an easy pregnancy and when the time comes, delivery.

As for China, I'd try to find a supportive agency and keep going with it. Odds are that if things keep up at this pace your little one could be almost a year old by the time it's time to go to China. The biggest thing would be could you stand to leave him or her for two weeks, and would you have someone to watch him or her while you're gone?

I thought one was adopted and one was a bio child? Not sure which was which though

Hi everyone!

We are still waiting for our daughter. We have decided to change her name to Madeline. We went into PGN (the final court) 1-23, kicked out 2-13, and proceeded to stay in that holding pattern for 10.5 weeks! We were supposed to be resubmitted to PGN yesterday. I certainly hope it happened! Madeline is now 8 months old and is described by her foster mother as smart, and always into things! I'm debating on whether or not I should take a visit trip to see her or not.. it all depends on what happens with PGN at this point! :)

Here are pictures my agency sent me from March...

Madeline is adorable. it looks like she is getting enough nourishment! What a cutie.

Madeline is just beautiful!!! I love that name (it is my dd's middle name :thumbsup2 ). It must be so frustrating right now, but I hope it progresses really fast for you!

We got our referral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An adorable 25 month old boy. He looks extremely healthy and is a good size (even by American standards) for a 2yo, so they don't believe he has suffered malnutrition. We hope to travel in mid or late June.

Congratulations!!! I am so hapy to hear that he is healthy. Did you decide on changing his name or are you keepinghis Ethiopian name? By the way what is his name?
Heidi

Congratulations on the referral! Madeline is beautiful too!!!!

Well we are down to two months!!!! China just referred through November 1st! Our LID is January 17th! So only two months till January!!!!!

Our daughter in China is Aurora Grace. I actually broke down today after seeing that they made it to Nov! We are LID Nov. 9, 2005. They are finally in our month! There is a chance that we are next. :cloud9:

His name is Ambilo (or Ambelo, it is spelled differently on the various paperwork). I'm not sure what his name means yet. We will name him Micah Ambilo and call him Micah. If he prefers Ambilo later we will call him that. :)

Congratulations to those waiting on China. Monami I hope your day comes VERY soon!!!
