Adoption Updates

I got my 171h!!!!!!! Woohoo!!!! We are officially "on the list" waiting for a referral...AND our agency has recently lowered the timeline (because they have been granted more children into their orphanage) from 1 year+ for referral to GET THIS.... 1-6 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:jumping1: :dance3: :yay:  :woohoo:

Just heard from our social worker that our dossier is on it's way to China today!!!

And it just dawned on me...I saw a ladybug earlier today too! I saw my sign and didn't even realize it!!

Hi! I don't post often but wanted to update. Our little boy arrived on January 19 from Korea. He is doing really well, and is a little sweety pie! He is having to wear one of those baby helmets (cranial band) for a flat spot on the back of one side of his head, but hopefully that will be over pretty quickly. I cannot wait to go to WDW in November as a family of 4!!

Does anyone know the dates for China that were supposed to be coming this week. My friend has a Nov 4 LID and we are all so anxious for her! We are on spring break this week and I haven't heard from her. Thanks!

No referrals as of yet! The rumors were flying late last week/early this week that they were on their way, but I think it may have been TA's. :( Still holding out hope for a batch soon though!!

Thanks. She said she read some rumors that they could be in this batch of referrals, if not she will most likely be in the May group. They have been waiting so long- I hope it is soon! Plus we all want to see her beautiful picture! If you hear anything, will you please post? TIA!

I most certainly will!!

And glad to hear how everyone is progressing.

Our news is not good. Kazakhstan was a disaster from the time we got out to the region- plenty of bad behavior and deception on the part of the in-country team (we weren't shown any children in the age range we specified, they insisted there were none when we knew there were, etc), and little support from our agency at home. We even went to two regions. We had to come home when my elderly father was very ill (he's pulling through for now, but has terminal cancer) and when we tried to contact the agency about returning to finish our process, they were reluctant to make arrangements, so we won't be completing our adoption. We're hoping to get some money back, but our agency isn't helping saying it's up to the staff in KZ.

Anyway- we realized that wasn't where our boy was, and are soldiering on with another country- one we had discussed initially but rejected because my family would have "issues" with it-- Ethiopia. We'll be taking our two big kids, but not our little one, because we think the trip will be too hard on her, and it'll be distracting to have her and the new child(ren) if we can adopt a sibling group of two for that initial bonding period

So thanks again. Now that dad is getting out of the care center, I hope to have more Distime.

Okay. Just remember that you asked for this. My two biggest fears directly relate in with this- tight, closed in spaces, and (yes, I am serious) public bathrooms. I am absolutely petrified to fly, not because of the flying itself, but because I know I can't hold it that long. I am afraid of the airplane bathroom, I tried to use one once and pretty much had a nervous breakdown- crying, sweating, etc.... I think I will have to drag DH in for moral support if/when I ever have to use one. I am also petrified of the noise they make. When we took the cruise I would shut the lid and make DH flush because the noise scared me. I hear that the airplane bathroom is about the same. I am also nervous about the sightseeing because of the bathroom issue. I hear most hotels have the kind of toilets we're used to. I even went to a website and looked at pictures of what a squat toilet looks like and what the different kinds are. I have it bookmarked under both adoption and travel so I will know what I am getting myself into when I go somewhere, like say, China.. So right now, aside from age and financials, the biggest thing holding me back from foreign adoption is public bathrooms. Make you feel a bit more normal now? :rotfl: MY husband thinks I am more insane than ever.

The flight isn't bad- been to China and Kazakhstan. If you can- avoid the Frankfurt, Germany airport (this is a sure thing since you're going to China) the McDonalds there charges .25 Euros per packed of ketchup, and the airport is less than desirable.

As far as toilets in China- we were told by our guides to use the handicapped toilets if they had them, not to mention that most places they'll take you to will have at least one Western-style toilet. Our oldest dd (she was 11 when we went to China) is proud of the fact that in two weeks she never used a squat toilet. Just wait until we go to Ethiopia and we go out to the middle of nowhere to meet birth relatives. She'll be lucky a crocodile doesn't bite her butt. :rotfl2:

At least you still have your sense of humor! :grouphug: to you on your quest. I hope that the rest goes easily for you and that you receive an acceptible refund from your agency.

Julie-

I am so sorry that happened to you. That must have been heartbreaking. I really hope you get your money back. The good thing is I've heard the Ethiopia dossier is much easier then the Kaz one. I put mine together in about 2 weeks. As far as family issues, we have that to with my "lovely" In Laws. What agency are you using for Ethiopia?

Fellow China moms to be - I cannot believe there were only 2 days of LIDs referred this month :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
