Adoption Updates

Scarlett, after you are DTC how long is the wait until referral? I've heard it is 12 mos +? I'm very excited for you!! :dance3:

www.cafepress.com has a TON of adoption related items and I thought this was appropriate. I plan on getting one because it drives me nuts too :teeth:

If you type in China adoption, you will come up with a ton of different phrases that you can get made into tshirts, mugs, hats, etc.

I pray she comes home soon... she is absolutely gorgeous :goodvibes

I am a lurker here, but just wanted to say thanks for the link, as you can see in my siggie, this is my china princess and i just ordered a ton of stuff, it was awesome !!!

Thanks again.

I'm not Scarlett but can probably help with your question. We were DTC on December 27th and then Logged into China's Computer on January 17th of 2006. Here we are almost a year later and I expect our wait to be about another 6-7 months. I need to change my signature.

Right now our social worker is saying that families just logged in or just DTC can expect a wait very close to 2 years if not more.

Of course with the new rules that China has imposed it is possible that they will "catch up" once the rules go into effect and then the process will speed up but as of right now I would love for the wait to only be a year!

Edited to say CONGRATULATIONS BRANDIE!!!!!!!! If you have ANY Questions please never hesitate to email me! We just got our package from Bethany to redo our homestudy and I-600 today. Such a long process but so worth every second!

To all of those in waiting, keep with it don't give up. On this very day 3 years go after 13 LONG months of paperwork and anxiety we left the US to go met our "Baby". Then after 2 months in country we brought our Angel home.
He really is a great child.
Sorry about the size of the picture I have resized it on photobucket so its a thumbnail size :confused3

It's pretty warm there- the city we're going- Aktobe- had a high of 12 degrees F the other day! Usually it's in the below zero range this time of year.
Julie, I thought you'd gone a little nuts when I read the first part of the quote from you. Then, when I read that it had gotten as warm as 12 degrees F, I understood that you were making a joke. First thing I thought was, does she really know where she's going? :rotfl2:

Alright, so I need a second cup of coffee this morning.

Kim, your son just keeps getting more and more handsome! You're going to have to beat the girls off with a stick!

RU:

Yes, it was a joke, sort of. Plus 12 is a lot better than -17. It's in the 50s down here in Southeast Pennsylvania, so either way we'll be cold.

Julie

Just got a call that we were offically accepted by our homestudy agency. so we are officially in the process now... let the paperwork begin!!

It's cold today in Scranton. The high isn't even going to hit 40 today. :rotfl2: I was in Philadelphia last Thursday and loved that it was 65! It was 70 here on Saturday. At least it's supposed to get warmer again this weekend. If this is global warming, I'm all for it. ;)

When we were in Bryansk, in October, we would pray each day that it would go up to 25F. It was abnormally warm here when we were there in 2001. Knowing that it was 80 at home made it harder being in the cold. Sending the kids to their first day of school without coats in November was nice, though.

You're right about it getting cold there. At least it's not last year when there was a stretch that was about 20 degrees colder than normal.

I'm not sure how long our wait will be, but we're hoping that with the new regulations, that it will shorten the wait a bit...once they get caught up! They've only just matched through Sept 27, 2005...so we've got a ways to go...

Well, the I-600A is going out tomorrow! Would've gone out today but I need to get a cashier's check for the fees and I didn't have time to get to the bank before our doctor appointment! It's just more proof that we're right where we need to be...we had no family doctor and we took a recommendation from my boss. I called YESTERDAY and got an appointment TODAY. She's a new doctor with the practice but she was adorable and oh so sweet! We went through the medical forms that are required of us and then came the tough part. The needle stick...I am sooooooo freaked out by needles! Let me tell you...the gal who did the blood draw was AMAZING. I didn't feel a thing!! We have to go back cuz they need to do a TB test, but she told me what to expect so I'll be ok.

Alright...i've got to go and get some homework done...

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I remember when we got the call that our DS (20) was coming home from South Korea. We were told on a Tuesday that he was coming on Thursday night. I think everyone in the office heard me that day.

Congratulations! I know for us it has been a wonderful journey. Our son is a great kid. He is the light of our lives and adopting him is the best and most important thing I have done in my life.

Good luck to you and your family!

With tax time upon us, I just wanted to remind everyone that adoption fees are 100% deductible on your return up to $10,000, that is unless, like us, it is a step parent adoption then $0 is deductable. I am sure most of you know this already :)

I can't wait to file those taxes!

That doesn't seem right about step parent adoption...:confused3

I don't get it either. We have paid for a home study, filling fees, fees for paperwork and had to hire a state Social Worker at $100 (max they can charge is $500 for this service) an hour to contact the biological father and ask him if he really did sign the papers giving up his rights and inform him he is entitled to counseling if he feels he needs it. Oh the Termination of Parental Rights he signed were notarized and had a witness of his choice. All this for a man who said "Get an abortion because I don't want it" and has seen MY DS 4 times in 10 years, two by accident.

We did however get to do this without an attorney so we saved there.
