Adobe Photoshop and CS

I totally know how you feel. I must have chased down 4 UPS trucks for several days waiting for them to deliver my Adobe Production Studio CS3 which included Photoshop CS3. I think there is something kind of frightening that I am that excited for a new version of a piece of software. My wife thinks I need therapy but I'd rather use the money I'd pay a therapist to get a new lens and maybe a new color calibration toolkit. That's not crazy is it?

Okay, this might not mean much to some of you but I'm so freaking excited. lol I got a great deal on CS3 ($319 shipped) and its coming tomorrow. Woot. I have Elements now but I just couldn't pass this up

BTW, I love CS3! It's so much easier to edit. I haven't quite figured everything out though. Actions are awesome too.

I am finally ready to purchase a photo editing program. I've spent way too much time on various photography forums trying to decide on the right program, and I need to make a decision soon! I have a Mac, and I would like a program that isn't too limiting (like iPhoto). I want to be able to purchase and use actions, and I would be using it more for family/children photography. I am considering PSE, but from what I understand, you can't create actions (though you can use some actions created in CS3). I like the idea of CS3 although I probably wouldn't use half of what it could offer. I have a trial version of Aperture, and the photo editing is limiting and the workflow is supposed to be phenomenal but I'm having a hard time figuring it all out. I can purchase PSE 4.0 for around $90, or CS3 Extended for around $300 (with the student discount). I could also get the Creative Suite Design Standard for around $400 with all of the following. However I don't even know what half of this stuff does:

Adobe InDesign CS3
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Adobe Illustrator CS3
Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional
Adobe Bridge CS3, which also offers access to Adobe Version Cue CS3, Adobe Stock Photos, Adobe Device Central CS3, and Adobe Acrobat Connect

I'm so new to all of this, and it's a little overwhelming. Any advice or suggestions? Also, I see a lot of people use Lightroom with PS. What exactly does that program do?

I have photoshope CS2 the full suite, and I have Lightroom. I use lightroom all the time, infact every single picture I take goes through lightroom for the RAW conversion and cropping.

Of the programs that are in the CS2 suite, the only 2 I ever use are Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat, the acrobat gets used a fair amount, but has nothing to do with pictures.

Of course, our favorite and *the* standard for image editing

Allows you to create PDFs from almost any file format

Ok, so I have a question. Recently my brother and his family came back from the DCL and they have some really great pictures. However, my poor little 4 year old neice came back with kind of a nasty sunburn. Does anyone know how to get rid of sunburns without the picture LOOKING like it's been photoshopped? I mean, I tried messing with it but every time I try it, I lose some of the natural light and her face LOOKS fake. Here's what I mean....

Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!! Thanks!!!!

I did a quicky on it. First, I fixed the red-eye (I don't use the red eye tool - I paint with black on a separate blank layer and then add a bit of white for the catch light in the eye). Then, I created a Selective Color adustment layer. Under the red color, I reduced black to -54%, which served to tone down the color red. Then, I filled the layer mask with black because I only want the effect on her face and neck. I then painted with white on the layer mask covering her face and neck area. For her lips, they came out too pale so I painted over the layer mask in that area with black set at 50% opacity. She still is pink but not certainly not red. I thought taking too much out made her look too pale.

I had received the same deal and have gone over to the dark side of Photo Shop. Been sitting on my desk for 2 weeks and I just haven't gotten around to installing it and going through withdrawals of my prior product

I am considering buying Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 as an upgrade. For $120 I get Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 & Adobe Premiere Elements 4. Or I can go to Costco and get Photoshop Elements 6 and Bonus OnOne Essential 2 for $79.99. I want the photoshop to make tshirt graphics and for scrapbooking. My husband is just getting into photography and if he doesn't blow up the computer, will use the program to fix his photos? I realize that neither of these are probably programs a real professional would use, but which would you recommend for someone starting out? I currently have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and haven't mastered it yet. Thanks so much. Penny

Photoshop Elements is a great tool. It does most of what the pro version of Photoshop does.

I got the costco one. I shoot some video but not much.

I haven't used any of the programs yet as I only had it for a few days. However I did look at the tutorial on how to erase the background with element 2.

Example
What's interesting is how you erase the background around a head. Hair is not perfectly smooth. There are strands that are always standing. with the old program you erase these strands (these strands helps the picture look more natural) when you erase the background. With elements 2 you erase the background and keep those strands.
