Glad to see you people are back on topic, discussing your vacations!

I've never been to Las Vegas. DH has and does not enjoy it. I don't do stuff like Grand Canyon so I don't see that as a destination. When living in NJ we did play some in Atlantic City.

Every time I've been anywhere like the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls, I'm like - wow, that is beautiful - ok, what's next?

I am not one with nature. I appreciate the beauty in things, but I want my vacation to be happening! :D

I'm that way with the grocery store bags. It's a dime (I call them dime bags btw) I throw those on my nightstand without a second thought and never spend them. BUT...it's a dime that they told us was going to help the environment and it's a lie - the grocery store keeps it. I'll keep my dime, thanks.
Thankfully that hasn't caught here yet with the charging with exception to one city (where my alma mater is at) has been discussing it for a few years.

When my husband lived in Long Beach he'd forget every now and then about bringing a bag, not the end of the world but still an annoyance to buy a bag

Bordeaux, France! I love 🍷🍷 and this has been a dream for a long time! Also very excited for the food onboard as well, heard amazing things about them. I mean...wine & dine...what's not to love??! Totally our jam! 😁
Beautiful region, food, and good company I'm sure plus so romantic I bet. What an amazing cruise that will be!

Where are you paying extra for Ranch Dressing??? I've never heard of such a thing.

You have to love the alternate universe...
VERY common. Dipping sauces are free up to a certain number per order but Ranch always costs more. at many fast food places. Pizza places have always charged extra for Ranch.

This thread is one of the funniest I've seen in a while on the DIS. It has a little bit of everything. Starts off with a normal discussion, then completely goes off the rails with an argument, the OP melts down and tries to nuke the thread and then derails into a discussion about churning butter and hating IPAs.
That's what drew me me in for sure
The OP was asking how middle class people that make under 100k a year with a mortgage payment/car payment and have expenses related to raising children how they can do yearly vacations (not specifically Disney but could also be Disney as well). They then got mad that people who make over 100k a year responded.
I make under 100k, but also I don't have children or a mortgage - so I guess that's my answer LOL

Condolences - that is rough! At least you have good roads. There was actually a failed initiative to have part of the 10.25% sunset, but the mayor sold the voters on "the whole state will be over 10% any day and we won't get our fair share if we don't max out our sales tax right now" - and that worked! Crazy what some people will believe. Whelp, off to Orange County I go...

I'm in LA county so still at 9.5% sales tax. Whenever I end up buying a new car I'm probably going to Ventura County for the 7.75% since it's closer than OC.

Wow there was a lot to catch up on - so my 2 cents - I don't like beer at all so I'm outta the IPA discussion, love coffee but have to stick to decaf cuz of anxiety and I'm definitely a dining plan person.

Okay so now my advertisements are ...
fancy cups for ALCOHOL.
Where?? Did I miss that?! Funny thing is, I actually had a conversation w/ a co-worker this morning about BruMate cups!! I have two for champagne and now I need to get the one for wine bottles! 😁

They come and go. I'll watch for them. My favorite was a low ball with an etched skull and crossbones.

Where we live, we have a lot of amazing coffee. I can tell you, we don't call it Starbucks around here, it's Charbucks because their beans are burnt!!🔥 (Sorry if you're a Starbucks lover!!) If you don't drink drip coffee black, you really can't tell the different notes between them. I drink my drip black only, so I can taste everything. I'm such a spoiled coffee snob that I can't drink cheap flavorless coffee (gas station, diner, fast food). It's bad....so bad that when we travel if I know local coffee isn't a thing at the destination, I will bring my own because I refuse to pay $4 for a crappy cuppa joe!
A great quality cup of coffee to start my day, is the only way I will start my day :thumbsup2
Okay see now we're about to go on a tangent about pour over coffee :lmao:

So that is how my husband and I drink our coffee on the weekends..pour over and black. It is true if you get a really good coffee and good method going you don't need the other stuff.

Now during the week I do a wee bit of milk (1%) and my k-cups, but weekends are reserved for our special way. We tsk ourselves for how we used to deal with god awful burger king coffee when we'd get breakfast from them, McDonald's isn't bad actually but just way too hot for way too long, Dunkin' is fine but nothing competes truly with pour over coffee. And now we have an electric grinder so we get whole beans and grind them just before we use them. My husband decided to get an expensive but actually quite good espresso machine from Amazon last year and we use that a lot as well although that is more with milk and stuff. We tried it with brown sugar too and it was good. But yeah now my husband is a pour over, espresso machine snob :rotfl:

And 100% agreed on Starbucks, I like dark roasts, bold flavors, bitter, dark chocolate too but Starbucks is just burnt to me.

Same here. I wasn't going to reply initially because there was nothing I could contribute to the initial discussion but then it went nuclear so fast that I had to get involved LOL

To bring it full circle, I'm currently sitting outside enjoying....a POG juice IPA ;)

Ok I think I could like that - it sounds good!

Bellagio is a good location and near the Cosmo which is the part of the strip that I like.
I was actually pleasantly surprised with the new Hilton Hotel at Resorts World - rooms were good - and I liked their gambling floor layout and restaurant mall area.
Well sorry to tell you this is where we differ..our friendship is broken :laughing: (obviously kidding)..we just couldn't get into Resorts World. Tried it what two or three times and just didn't like it. But I'm sure the rooms are very nice, just speaking about the mall/shopping and casino floor.

I forgot to mention about Bellagio is the Conservatory is a really cool thing to see. I've been able to see all the seasons at this point but I just love how they do them. The one from September 2022 had a lot of things that reminded me of Disney (like jungle cruise, enchanted tiki room, etc).

Our local Buffalo Wild Wings charges for every ranch or bleu cheese - even the first. It is awful!!

haha ... I am sure its not for everyone probably, but for the cost which was pretty reasonable over a busy convention period last fall, it was ok. I did check out and spend my last night at the Cosmo on my own dime ... so there's that lol

Riverbend Home. Pricey but some fun ones.

So I am trying hard not to wonder what the OP is thinking now. You know they have to be reading these! I’m still baffled as to why under $100k people don’t go on vacations or have homes or are incapable of saving. That is as insulting as saying poor people can’t budget. That is the big insult I hear being say in the line of work I am in. Anyhoo…on to better topics…

I’ll have to try chocolate coffee. I hate hot coffee and will only drink iced but really it isn’t coffee once I add everything…so maybe I should try the choc coffee…

The cheap Las Vegas and Tahoe….I would say neither are cheap anymore. But since I’m an old foggie now (well evidently since I was 26 as that is when I started going) we only go to LV every few years but go to SLT two - three times a year. We like the atmosphere much better. We are heading there for two weeks soon. Can’t wait! For the first time we are staying on the other side of the lake. Cedar Glen Lodge. Hoping it will be great. Here is an interesting tidbit - the honeymoon cabin sleeps two but the anniversary cabin sleeps four. So by the time you have an anniversary you have kids or special friends traveling with you?!

As for IPA’s I will pass every time. I’m a hillbilly whisky on the rocks kinda gal.

Sorry for the long post! Lots of catching up from today.

I have never been to Tahoe, always been on my list. I think I would like the vibe better too. Thanks for the idea on where - because that's usually my next conundrum - where to stay.

My two favorite road trips from Tahoe are Virginia City and Bodie. Checkout Ruby the Red Caboose. We have a stay booked there. I’m super excited about it and having a cocktail at the Bucket of Blood Saloon after the rest of the town shuts down.

If you go to Bodie plan a couple of days for the side trip and swing over to Yosemite.

I remember though using it in 2019 (when it was still really good) we used it for Zumanity.
We also used it to get free tix for Zumanity!!😅👍🏼 This game has been around for 10 yrs!! MGM is genius!😆 Over the years I think I redeemed maybe 300k points worth of things? Right now I have just under 900k points but nothing I want to redeem 🫤
