Have you bought any of these new adjustable waist pants for your kids yet? The Gap, Old Navy, and The Children's Place are all featuring them in their fall lines.

I think they're awesome! My son is tall and thin for his age, and so these pants are just the ticket for him.

I kind of wish they made them for adults too. They look smarter than full elastic waistband pants.

I'm almost 20 and I still wear kids clothes, I'm only 85 lbs and not even 5'. I really hate the adjustable waist pants, I wear a size 10 in kids and they fit me perfectly. It's so annoying having the elastic and button thing on the side, it just bugs me. I guess I'm just really picky about those things. I think it's a clever idea but I wish all of the pants weren't adjustable at Gap.

Sorry for sounding so negative. I'm really glad your son is able to find pants that work so well for him. :)

Wow, I knew gap did, but I'm glad to hear other places are doing it too!

I have the same problem with my kiddos.

We love them here! Lands End and LL Bean pants often have them too!

I'm 20 and I can wear kids' clothes, and I LOVE the adjustable waist pants. I got mine at Old Navy. My, uh, derriere is a little bit large in relation to my waist:o, so they're great for making the waist fit me better. :upsidedow

My son and daughter each have a few pair. I think they are great.

DS is tall and thin but pants always seem tight around his waist so these are perfect.

I LOVE these! Both my kids are skinny and tall. I got them both 2 pairs of jeans from Children's Place. They had a sale 2 for $28 and I thought that was a great price since last year Gap had them for $40 something for one pair! I wish they made these for adults! :teeth:

These are great!
I also have a skinny guy. In the summer we are all set. He can still wear a size 4 shorts but in the winter we have a hard time. If I can't find 7 slims he was mr baggy pants.

My 6 yr old DD currently wears boys jeans because they fit her so much better than girl jeans. She is very tiny for her age - she wears a 3T-4T - and is very skinny with no hips. This is why she wears boy jeans because the girl jeans are so big in the waist on her.

My question is, do they make these jeans for girls and boys? Or is is just for boys? I guess it does't really matter because she already wears boys jeans. Would you please let me know - Thanks!!

They definitely make them for girls too! DD12 has some adjustable waist shorts from Old Navy that she just loves.

I've also seen the adjustable waist jeans at Target. DS9 got a pair last week and thinks the idea is cool.

Love the adjustable waist pants. DS is very tall and thin.

Levi's also makes several of their styles with an adjustable waist. They even have slims with an adjustable waist.

my kids wouldn't be caught dead in anything from the Gap or Old Navy.

though it was always hard to find slim fit jeans for them when they were younger, and the pants you describe would have been perfect.

now we shop in the junior department -- anyone know where I can find a size 0?

I picked up 2 pr this weekend from Kohls - Lee jeans now makes the elastic waist for girls! Whoohoo!:bounce:

Why didn't anyone think of that idea years ago?

They've actually been along for quite some time. I think different companies are starting to make them more and more. I think they're great for little kids though.

Personally, I'd rather dealing with the bagginess in the waist than have that annoying elastic and button thing in my pants. It rubs up against my hips and irritates them. Sorry I just hate them so much, my size 10 kids pants fit me perfect. Hmm, maybe I'm just bitter about looking like a 12 year old when I'm soon to be 20. :teeth:

I got dd hers from Children's Place and they had several different styles to choose from and they are definitely for girls!

Well, probably because you are an adult, they fit you much differently than the children we are talking about. My dd (5) is probably a 4T (as in toddler) in the waist, but needs a 6x/7 for length. So, if not for the adjustable waist, it would completely fall off of her, not just a little baggy at the waist.

I just want to say that if you have a tall thin child the pants might not work for you. I bought DD size 4T from Gap with the adjustable waist and they are already high waters. It's really bad. Also the adjustable band inside really seemed to bother her. In Old Navy pants she needs a 18 month waist and a 4T length. I have not even bothered with Children's Place. They run short for her also.

I did buy some 3T pants/jeans from Land's End and they fit great. No adjustable waist, just the elastic waist band. :)

Probably:D . I think they're great for kids though. I remember I used to be so tiny that my pants would always slip off when I was a toddler. I could of sure used them back them! :D

MinnieM21, since you don't need to be able to expand the waist as might be needed for a child, you might consider sewing the elastic in place and removing the buttons. I bought a pair of pants like these for my DD at JC Penney 2 years ago. I liked the idea because sometimes she'll suddenly grow "wider" and then stretch out in length. With these, they'd fit her a bit longer and better during the "widening" stage. However, I also wondered how comfortable it would be to have the button right next to the skin in a place that bends so I just look for some elastic in the waistband, at least across the back if not the full circumference.

A hint for those with tall but thin kids. I've bought inexpensive trim at a fabric store (or the fabric section of Wal Mart) and just add that at the hem. This comes in varying width so you can add a couple of inches... or more if you want to put on two lengths of trim. Another possibility on straight leg pants is to cut the pants at about 2-3 inches above the hem. Then sew a raw edge to each side of the trim - kind of like an insert. Again, this will allow an inch or more in length to be added pretty easily and inexpensively. As a last resort, I've cut off a couple of inches and hem the bottom and call them capri pants.. cut off even more (new hem optional) and they're shorts :).

Thanks for the tip! It just really irritates my skin and I have a lot of problems with the elastic moving and rubbing against my skin and the buttons pressing against me when I sit down or bend over. I'll try that and hopefully it'll work out great.

Sorry if I sounded like a whinner! I'm so glad I've been given an idea for my problem thanks to this thread.:D

By the way, Jenn Lynn, you're daughter is absolutely adorable!
