Adjustable waist pants for kids.

I agree with you Kristy, I'm a big believer in school uniforms. It eliminates that war of rich vs. poor; or kids that are over-indulged vs. those who are being taught to value a dollar.

I've always loved clothes and fashion, but my parents taught me to appreciate a dollar from a very young age. If I wanted the "cool" clothes, I had to earn the money to buy them, plain and simple. My kids know that is the story around here, too. If it isn't your birthday or Christmas, you are getting the necessities and then anything after that you get what your allowance will buy you and if you want something big you better start saving. :)

Gee, I work with junior high kids and Gap and Old Navy ARE the cool clothes . . . That's what the "popular" kids wear. The others all get their clothes from Wal-Mart and Penney's. :D I love Old Navy stuff myself, but them I'm all about comfort. Hmmm. . . and I thought Century 21 was a real estate place. :p

Man, some of the attitudes on this thread reminds me of how miserable the "rich" kids in my high school made me feel as I wore clothes from Kmart, etc.

I went to school in the rich, upscale town of Birmingham, MI. However, I was from the "poor" section of the school district, in Southfield. We were struggling at that time and believe me, the kids in that school let me know how uncool and classless and "scummy" I was because of where we shopped for clothes.

One of the reasons I totally support school uniforms. I am so glad we live in a rural town now, where everyone pretty much shops at the same place!

I'm right there with you Kristy.

I don't know what era you grew up in (80's for me) but I can tell you that looking back at the pictures of what the "rich" kids that wore only what was "high fashion"... they look so stupid now and you have to wonder why anyone in their right mind would pay good money to look like that.

I just don't understand some mothers today. Why do they let these teens and preteens dress this way - they leave nothing to the imagination - they are dressed way older than their years and like someone said earlier - little Britney Spears clones. (I'm refraining from saying what they really look like)

I'm going to catch heck for this but I venture a guess that mothers that willingly dress their little girls up with these sexy pants showing thongs and shirts showing their bellies are just missing or have missed something in their lives and are living vicariously through their children. (and yes.. 12 - 16 is still a CHILD no matter whether their age ends in the letters t-e-e-n).

These kids have no jobs - they are not paying for this stuff themselves... there are parents out there that buy their little girls pants that go down just about to their crack (can I say that on the DIS? lol) or shorts with JUICY on their butts or shirts with insulting phrases or phrases with sexual innuendo... that is ridiculous! Fashion or not.. it is like sticking a sign on a 12 yr old saying "hey pervert - check me out"

It's not "fashion" if parents use common sense and refuse to buy it for their children.

Once a DIS mother debated thaT "Juicy" was simply the brand name, and meant nothing more.

LOL! Yeah RIGHT. If there was a mega popular designer named Ima Hogg I bet they wouldn't flash that brand name on their backside!

Snoopy, my parents HAD to teach me to appreciate a dollar because they couldn't afford anything else.
I often see parents complaining about spending $100 for a pair of sneakers because that's what the kids want. My kids want that and more, but I'm not getting it no matter what. The regular pair for $20-30 from walmart or payless serve the same purpose.
My kids wear a lot of clothes from the limited too, but they don't come from there and I only pay a fraction of the price at the store. A lot of them also come from JC Penney , Sears and Old Navy. And I am one of those parents that DOES NOT buy clothes just because they go back to school, they have plenty of summer clothes , I buy clothes for the winter when they are needed.
