In the past, whenever i bring my "other" family, we have 2 stateroom next to each other, but not adjoining. For adjoining rooms, where are the door located from one stateroom to another?? Do you feel the "adjoining door" takes away space in your stateroom?? Is it a pain to open and close the adjoining door?? Just thinking whether to use those rooms or not....Which do you prefer?? 2 stateroom next to each other, with or without adjoining?? (i am not talking about family who has have 4 children..then i would take the adjoining room) but if you bring your parents, Sister in law/family and such...

Thanks..Just wanted your input..

We had adjoining cat 10's, The door was between the closet/cabinet and vanity. I didn't feel it took up any room, and for us it was very helpful because of our family makeup. In one stateroom we had me, dh, dd-7, dd-5 and in another we had DGM and DD-17. The door made it so DH and I could get up and have breakfast or walk the decks and the little ones were ok with the door open between rooms. Without the configuration with small children it would have been unnecessary for us with one exception....more than once one side used the others "facilities"...so having to toilets was helpful!

We had adjoining cat 9 rooms last February (2020 and 2018). The door was between the closet and the vanity (same as cat 10). We found it was better to remove the automatic closer so the door could be propped open. As I recall, it was just a pin that we popped out. It really made life easy with an extended family . . .

We had adjoining rooms w/ my brother's family, and I will give you one bit of advice. They are less sound insulated. What I mean is, you will be able to hear each other MUCH more when the door is closed than you would in adjacent (but not adjoining) staterooms. On our next family cruise, I asked to be in the adjacent (but not adjoining) stateroom, and my parents will be in the one that connects to his. I didn't need to hear his family so much, and I'm sure he didn't need to hear mine. If there is not a child care issue involved, I would prefer to go with next door, but not connecting. This will also give you a much larger selection of cabins to choose from. ;)

Not trying to be a stickler.....but the term adjoining means "next to" meaning 2 cabins next to each other but with no interior door. I am not talking about dictionary definitions, but in reference to the terms used on these boards and with DCL.

The term "connecting" means cabins with the interior door that you can go from one to the other.

Again, not trying to be a "know it all" but these terms come up quite often and this way we are all on the same page when we discuss them. Also this is the way most DCL CM's on the phone will refer to the cabins as well when you are making your reservations.

Thanks. Have a great cruise!! :earsboy:

We had a Cat 10 room last cruise in Dec. My wife and I in one and my DD, DSL, and DGD in the other. I thought it was great, We could knock on the door if we wanted each other. When we were late DGD came in and used our shower as DD takes longer then us to get ready. We are haveing the same type rooms on our next cruise in Feb. Just one stateroom down from the last. Taking my other DD and her family. :moped: John

Thank you all for your advices...

I hear what you say ljm..I don't think i would want a connected room with my another family either!! LOL!!

Thank you Mmouse37 for the correction.,,you are right..there is a difference in adjoining and connecting.

We had 2 staterooms on this past cruise. One was a Cat 6 and the other a Cat 11 directly across the hall. It worked great for us, (even considering the Disney Rule!!)...Mark

Great point. We made this mistake on our last cruise. I thought we had connecting when we actually had adjoining rooms. By the time I discovered the mistake it was too late to change.

Is there a way to tell by looking at the deck plans which rooms are connecting? Since we are not traveling with another party, we'd prefer non-connecting as many of you have pointed out that they are less noise-insulated. Thanks

yes, when you go on disneycruise.com and see the deck plans, on next to some of the staterooms numbers is a small arrow triangle, that means it is connected.

There is NO door strong enough for me to be connected to MY mother in law! That said, if you do get the connectingrooms, which I've had, the door was not intrusive. I taped the bolts down on both so they became "push" doors. I didn't hear my kids when the doors were closed though....and they are NOT quiet children.

We just got off the Wonder this past Sunday and we had two adjoining Cat 6 rooms and I felt like the room was smaller. We sailed this past May in a Cat 6 and know we felt like it was bigger--more walking space.
