My youngest ds is adhd and we will be flying across country (6 hrs) on southwest.

He did well this summer but the flight was only 2 hours long. I took the gameboys and plus it was his first flight (alot of things to see on a plane).

I have a portable dvd player but the battery pack is only good for 2 hours. The gameboy lasts longer but the problem is he will be in a confined space for the duration of time. I need to help him be distracted so that the flight won't be too much for all passengers.
Does anyone know if there is a power source on the plane I could utilize like in our truck we can use an inverter and plug in the ps2? I don't remember seeing this on the plane before.

Any suggestions??

Thanks.

Deb

How expensive are battery packs....? Is it even possible to buy another one?
I think that might be your answer if it's possible.

good luck.

No. I think the PS2 would also to be too big and hard to manage on a plane.

You could always slip him a Benadryl. ;)

You mean this:

Plus the rest of your carryon luggage? You need to call your airline and ask them about restrictions, etc. I know of no pluggable power source on any plane. Security restrictions are very high these days. Since your DVD player is like a laptop, that would probably be allowed, but even if there was a power source, I highly doubt the PS2 would be allowed. All those cords, etc. would be alot to keep up with and unless you're in first class, you won't have much room in your two seats. Trying to get all that on the plane, plus getting it plugged up,etc. would be alot of work. If he's like most kids, he'd probably play it for 15 minutes then want to do something else anyway ;)

Can you read books to him? Or play UNO with him? Teach him poker? There are all kinds of travel games available which are relative inexpensive and easier to carry on.

I think I would stick with the gameboys, travel games and then play cards, read books, or definetly buy the "Yes and No" books at the airport. A vacation must if you ask me.:D
I would hate for you to even bring your equipment and then they tell you "sorry"...that would make for a miserable flight. Even if they give you the ok over the phone, I wouldn't trust it.

We have an ADHD daughter and have taken many long flights (to England - 11 hours + airport)

We would always fly Virgin Airlines because they have a TV at every seat -

But for when we fly to Michigan (5 hours), I would pack her a carry on bag of lots of stuff to do. Gameboy is great! We also have a portable DVD player and bought and extra battery. We bought the battery directly from panasonic and had them Fed Ex to us as we were leaving 3 days! I think that would be enough for you.

But I always pack food, drink. She also loves to do word search puzzles so I would pack those. Crayons, markers, just as much stuff as I could pack into her carry-on! We never had a problem with her on the plane though. We've been flying with her since she was 5 and she is now 15!

I would just buy an extra battery and you should be fine. Kids love to watch TV whether they have ADHD or not!

Hope this helps,

Karen

There are power connectors but only in business and first class on most airlines. I doubt any southwest flights have them. I would search the net for a spare battery pack.

My kids both like to do Mad Libs. It's a pad of paper where you ask for adjectives, nouns, etc to fill in spaces. When you have them all filled in on a page, it makes a silly story. Good practice for language arts while you are at it! ;)

I too have flown with my 3yrold all over the place ....were in Fl. now but have been to Hawaii and Calf. a few times and back what has helped me is...

My friend did this for me ...she went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of toys and wrapped them all up and put them in a big bag. DD was only supposed to open one and hour but I got so tired I dozed off! LOL (I would open my eyes to see what she was doing and she sat there and opened up those gifts and played ....It kept her busy and I didn't worry about losing any of the parts cause the toys were so cheap...

I've also rented the DVD but that gets old after awhile (for mine anyway)...a second battery is the best bet...but I know it is expensive.

and as a last resort I've used Dramamine...it was recommended by the Pharmacist to me...and has been a life saver at times....Benadryl hypes my kids up.

Have fun on your trip!
