How long after your FIRST purchase was it when you initiated the purchase of an add-on.

2 days. I added 50 VWL points.

Wow, 2 days! I'll be surprised if anyone's any sooner than that. We added 25 points about 3 months later, but it was primarily because we figured we really needed a little more. Our first true add-on was about 1 1/2 years later, when we added on at a different resort (when BCV first opened).

We added 50 VWL points within 2 weeks of buying 200 BWV in Sept. 2003!

150 AKV Feb 1st less then one month after we closed at SSR Jan 4th. Now already on the waitlist for BCV points last sunday:sad2:

The first time, I was able to hold off for about 7 years, but............this last time was only after about 2! (Couldn't resist those cute animals! )
Will the next time be down to one, and then eventually, to the 2-day mark too?:confused3 :sad2: :rolleyes1

Less than one month for our second BW contract.

Hopefully adding on soon!!! Trying to decide SSR/AKL or HH. Extra years or where we prefer to vacation. I know buy where you want to stay but have never had a problem having a member making reservation for me at Hilton Head.

I'm not sure about the exact number of days (or hours ;) ), however I do remember doing the paperwork for our initial SSR & BWV contracts at the SAME time :rotfl2: .

Wow, 2 days! I'll be surprised if anyone's any sooner than that.
We added the very next day after purchasing our initial contract. We purchased at 5:00 pm, and decided to buy more points by dinner that same night.
We called our guide the next morning. We added four additional contracts after that, all within 11 months.

Then we took a hiatus.... until AKV. Now two more contracts, for a total of eight.

My vote (<2yrs) doesn't help your 6yr theory, sorry!

However ... we all know the participants of this forum aren't a good representation of the broader DVC community. Many of us here would have entered the DVC sales presentation already knowing the advantages of holding smaller contracts.

Our initial DVC purchase was 50-pts shy of our annual usage. We left room for future add-ons from day one! Almost 2 years later we added 25pts ... but thanks to sales incentives and points-math we are still in a banking mode. Once I hit the borrowing mode I'll reevaluate and take appropriate action. (You can guess where that is heading ... ?)

Our original purchase was August '06 and we added on one month later! Now we're just waiting for the GCV DVC to be announced (hint, hint Disney!! :rolleyes1 )

We were dumb enough to think we'd only go every 2 or 3 years so we started with 100 points. Two months later we added on another 120. Now were waiting for CA DVC.

First closed at VWL in January 2001 and added on (also at VWL) in July of 2001.

Bought SSR on Feb 27th 2007. Two weeks later we purchased an AKV add-on. We are also waiting to close on a VWL resale! We've got it bad...

:rotfl:
4 Months...
We decided to take my wife's Mother with us...so, we needed
a two-bdrm...can you say..."I need more points without
borrowing!"
P.S. There's no cure yet for "Addonitis!"
:lmao:

Man, you are right about that. I would never have thought such a large majority added on so soon after their first purchase. I guess your guide was bored? :confused3
If it helps you out ... it took DVC nearly 6 years and two guides to sell us the first contract.

Our initial introduction was in Sept-98. We stayed in a BWV studio as part of Disney's Land/Sea package on our first ever cruise. We toured but didn't buy. (Our annual visits, at that point, were paid by our employer and we didn't think we'd travel cross-country every year to visit WDW for vacations?)

In 2002'ish, our employment situaton changed thanks to acquisitions. Our new employer still contributes to our annual visit (airfare, conference fees) -- but they'll only pay off-site housing. We fought back by trading into BWV via II at our own expense.

We retoured during our Jan-04 visit and were assigned a new guide. We put our names (and credit card) in the waitlist for BWV points. We also initiated two resale contracts which fell through a few weeks later.

Mar-04 we receive a call from our (new) guide with great news: he has our points. Ah .. but there was a trick ... they would be SSR points but at the requested UY. After days of back-and-forth by phone ... he convinces us we'll have no trouble booking BWV at the 7month window for our determined travel schedule and we cave in.

Paperwork arrives ... wrong UY. We call the guide and enjoy more back-and-forth. He eventually wins (as we are really ready to buy at this point!) and we accept the SSR, OCT UY at the smallest contract offered (150pts). Our decision for 150 was influenced by the fact that I already had our reservation for Jan-05 in hand via II and knew I could bank 100% of our first year's points.

By Apr-04 we were owners -- but I doubt the guide was bored. Think of what he was up against: "be-back" buyers from several years ago; having to convince us to purchase against the "buy where you want to stay" strategy; talking us into the UY available over the one we strongly requested; and overcoming the fact that I had already successfully traded into BWV via II on multiple occasions.

I'd say he earned that sale the hard way! :) The subsequent add-on may have been a cake-walk .. but it was only 25pts. Not likely to change his lifestyle much. :rolleyes1
