Additional Child Tax Credit question

What a shock to find out that if you have a child who turned 17 before the end of 2008, you can not get this additional tax credit!

What is the reasoning for this age, since they are considered dependents until age 18?

Youngest DS turned 17 Dec. 2nd.

Oh, boy-I'd love to know the answer to this question also. I do taxes for a living and I don't have any idea why. I just enforce the government's laws on taxes, but I don't know what they're thinking in lots of cases.

The reason for this, or anything else about taxes, is because the CongressCritters say so.

All IRS does is enforce the laws and collect the taxes.

So ask your CongressCritter!

Maybe because you also got the tax credit when the baby was aged zero?
