Adding to the same resort direct through DVC

Thanks for all the information here. On reading it I have learned a lot and it has given me a great perspective on the DVC presentation I attended last week, which itself was very informative and surprisingly low key.

I think we will be interested in purchasing 100 - 150 points at AKV. My question is this - if we buy resale at AKV and we hope at some point to add 75 points (or whatever they change it to in future) direct from DVC in order to fully buy in to the extras (assuming they still exist), is there any chance that Disney itself will ever offer more points directly from there or will I need to buy points from somewhere else which would presumably put us in the 7 month situation if we want to use all of the at AKV. I understand that only Copper Creek and Alunai are being sold right now by Disney from the presentation but do they ever sell points to other resorts? What about the ones that Disney acquires on ROFR? I think at the end of the day, for us, resale makes more sense at least initially although I do like the idea of the discounts associated with the DVC purchase too at some point in the future.

You can buy points for AKV direct from Disney. They get them two ways: ROFR and repossession when someone defaults on their loan or their dues.

If it’s not available immediately for your UY, you can ask your guide to put you on the waitlist.

Buying resale first is a great idea as it’s easier to sit on a waitlist for the direct perks points, than to wait for that perfect contract (price, size, resort, UY)... which won’t show up until after you’ve gone into contract on a next best option.

Considering 75 points is above the 50 point minimum buy in, you could even ask for those direct points once your contract passes ROFR. There is no rush, though. AKV is a large resort and I am sure they can grab some points for you via ROFR shortly after you ask for them.

We purchased our first contract 60 points direct for AKV and our guide had the points and UY we wanted available right away. I called our guide back today with some questions about CCV, and she even stated she could sell us more AKV right now if we wanted them. It's such a large resort, I can't imagine it would be hard to get direct points whenever you're ready to buy.

Thanks for asking a great question. We are doing the same thing. Buying resale to get our feet wet but I already want to add on the 75 points to feel like a full DVC member.
