My husband, me and 1 yr old daughter are going to Disney Dec 14th-19th. We're staying at POP and we're on the dining plan. We're getting 10 day park hopping no expiration passes. We would like to add my mother in law but only want to get 3 day passes for her since thats all we'll be doing this trip. The travel agent says she needs to have the exact same package as us. Whats the best way around this? Can we not get our passes and still get dining? If thats possible should we then all just get our passes from one of the discount sites on mousesavers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In order to participate in the dining plan you need to be on a package. The package must include room, tickets and the meal plan. You can get as little as a one day park ticket if you like, but for the dining plan everyone needs to be on the same plan, and I believe that is the number of nights of your reservation. So if I interpret it correctly, you could just get a one day park ticket, but your MIL would have to pay for every night of the dining plan - even if she wasn't there.
If I have mis-interpreted, I am sure someone here can correct me.

What you would have to do is add your MIL to your package, changing the tickets to 3 day. You will have to pay an extra adult charge since you will have 3 adults in the room ($10 per night I think). And of course you would have to pay for the meal plan for her. After you arrive, you can upgrade your and your husband's tickets to 10 day, no-expire, paying the additional cost.

I would think your only recourse is to purchase a separate ticket for her. In order to decide whether or not to purchase your tickets through a discount site, you need to figure out how much your tickets are costing you in your package and compare that price to what the discount sites are selling them for. If you need help with this let me know.

Only 4 more days til we're in the World!!! Whoopeeeee!!! :dancer:
