Guys,

Which is easier / less expensive

To add a member to an existing reservation or
To remove a member ?

um..not sure i understand but obviously removing a member would make it cheaper?!

What i meant was are there any penalties involved in removing or adding a person into an existing reservation.

If I book for 4 people and then decided to remove one person, how does the charge on that person get refunded ?

How does it work if I have three people in my reservation and buy a navigators verandah(which can house 3) and then want to add a fourth person in the group ?

I added my husband to my reservation about a month after reserving for me and my daughter, it cost me $200-$300 more than if I would have put him on at the same time. The price of the cruise went up,so his price went up too.:sad1:

I was unsure whether one of our sons could attend...I booked him anyway..I was told much harder to add a person later because rate could go up! I'm glad I did! Rates for Dream have really increased since June, 2010!

I figured I would just pay the $200 deposit per person..By deposit date of 75 days prior to sail, I would definately know if our son could go! Much easier to remove, than add...Besides, if ship is close to capacity, you might have trouble even adding a person to your stateroom!

Good Luck! :thumbsup2

I was told by DCL essentially what Jersey said. My mom and aunt are going with us on the Dream in Sept. and my brother was a maybe. DCL told me to add him now because it's much easier to remove someone than to add, because as Jersey said, at a certain point, they will not have "room" for any more passengers because of life boat capacity, not always room capacity. As long as you make the decision by the time the PIF date hits. My aunt is now not going to go, so my brother's cruise rate is now going up, his was $389, but now he'll have to pay about $150 more, but that's not a penalty, it's just to bring it up to the double occupancy rate that my mom & aunt were paying for their fares.

I hope I made sense! Sometimes I can't write it how I'm thinking it!

MUCH easier to remove than add. I know from experience that you take a risk of the ship being full when you try to add a person later. Our cabin sleeps four, but when we tried to add a 4th person, there was no more room, even though the ship isn't sold out. If you don't add all the people you want, you run the risk of not being able to get the other person on.

If you book a cabin that only sleeps 3 and want to add a 4th person you will need to change categories and you will pay the prevailing rate for the new cabin you are booking.

It's much easier to book for 4 people and then if the 4th person needs to be dropped from the ressie and it's done before the penalty phase begins there is no problem.

Thanks guys,

That is what I thought too..but wasn't sure if there were hidden charges involved in removing a person from resie.

No hidden charges unless you are into the penalty phase. The first two occupants of any stateroom are going to be the most expensive, the third and fourth being much cheaper.... I would add the person NOW, and remove them if needed later. that persons fare would then just be removed from the cruise cost total, and their 200 deposit would be just shuffled to what you still owe (if the cruise is NOT already paid in full) I am not sure how it would work if the cruise was paid off, and then you remove someone....

re conversation with DCL re my current reservation:

if removing a guest from a res you can have the deposit/payments carried over to the existing one to reduce the final payment due for the remainder of the guests (assumming you're all one happy family;))

or

if guests sharing a cabin (non-related for example) you can request a refund & it will revert back to the original form of payment. If it's a CC you no longer hold, they will issue a check but it takes longer.

be aware, even if a cabin sleeps 4, if you have a cabin booked for 3 guests and the ship is near capacity (as the Dream is on many sailings) you might not be able to add them to the reservation.

If I have 3 people in our cabin (me, DH, & DS) and DH might not be able to go for work, we may want to name change from DH to someone else. Does the cost stay the same or do they cancel DH's reservation and have to rebook that 3rd person at current price?

The primary person on the reservation cannot be changed without cancelling the reservation. 2nd, 3rd and 4th people on the reservation can be switched, changed, deleted, added with only paying prevailing rates.

You can change who the primary in the cabin is, switching it to another person in the cabin as long as they are an adult. We just did this for our mother/daughter cruise in October. If you don't do this first, then they would cancel the reservation and book a new one.
