Hello Knowledgable DVC'ers,

I am doing a split stay in Sept. Three days at POP, then a week at BWV on rented points.

My sister has mentioned that she might like to join me for 2 days. I know that if she comes during my POP stay I can just add her to the ressie when she arrives and pay for the additional adult in the room. Does it work the same way if she comes during my BWV time? Naturally, I would love for her to see the fancy resort, but I am grateful to the owner for having rented me the points and would do nothing to jeopordize that relationship.

So....what's the scoop?

I would ask the member to add the additional person to the reservation. It's not an issue if she doesn't show up, but could be a big hassle to add at check-in. The member shouldn't mind, it's just a quick phone call to make the change.

Member Services will want the person's name, address, and phone number.

Thanks...how much notice should I give?

Did you get the dining plan? If you did, she would have to have the dining plan, too, unless you added her when you arrived.

And as long as you aren't exceeding occupancy of the villa.

Ah! I was planning on getting the dining plan. That's a good point. I really wouldn't want to have to get a whole week of dining for only 2 days.

So does anyone know if I'd have trouble adding her when she arrived w/o getting the owner involved?

Maybe she'll just have to see the POP.

You can't. Member can't either. Anyone in the room has to have the dining plan if one person has it. So if you have the dining plan, she can't stay in the room.

The easy way to do this is to skip the dining plan. Then just add her to the reservation whether she comes or not. There isn't an additional charge for more adults in a DVC room (you can't exceed capacity, but that's a different deal).

The dining plan used to be a great deal. Now its an ok deal and you can probably do nearly as well and gain flexibility for your sister's visit without it.

The front desk is unable to add/remove people from the reservation. Any changes must be made with Member Services by the owner before your arrival at the resort.

I'd skip the dining plan, too. Assuming you're going to eat with her while she's there, it'll give you more flexibility to "wing it" on dining those days.

Thank you for all the informative replies. I guess I have some thinking to do.

There are worse problems no? ;)

Just be careful about "winging it" if you want to go to a nice ts meal if you don't reserve you may not get in to that restaurant. Agree with not doing dinning plan. Used to be a great deal but not anymore. If you decide to make a "reservation" at let's say le Cellier and she decides to not show then remember also to cancel her 24 hours in advance or you will be charged a no show fee for her.

That's not true. Both times I've rented, the front desk didn't have the right people in the room and the front desk just fixed it up without issue. One room only had me listed as staying there instead of the whole family.

But neither time was dealing with the dining plan and it was fixed check-in, not at some random time during our stay.

Then they've updated the system. The last time we had names missing, the front desk CM went to the back room and contacted DVC. The reservation was cancelled and rebooked with the missing names.

Thanks for the reminder. My daughter and I are huge planners though, and we pour over the menus and have our reservations as early as possible.

I am seriously considering not doing the dining plan and adding my sister to the original reservation if she decides to come. She will know well in advance.

Thanks again to everyone for the information

Possibly. The last time we had this issue was last January.

One nice bonus with DVC is there's no additional charge for an extra person in your room. We almost never drive and when my Tampa-based daughter visits not only to we get to see her, we don't have to pay the extra adult charge, she has her own key card and parking pass. Love it.
