Does adding-on resale have the same end result as adding-on directly through Disney if you buy the same use year? My guide said no and that managing the add-on points will be a hassle since they will have a different contract number. Can anybody shed some light?

Thanks!

:)I thought when you added on (no matter how) and it was the same use year, as long as it was titled the same as your master contract those points as long as they were at the same resort as your home resort.....everything was cool. It is when you add on at a different resort that it is a little more tricky....you can only combine the points at the 7 month mark. Biut if it is the same use year it can be on the master contract, even if they are at different resorts.

From what I understand, if you notify Disney before they finalize your resale add-on, they will combine it with your original contract. The points will be separate if you ever want to sell, but as far as booking purposes, your points will be combined. Also, it's been suggested that you make your resale agent aware of your original contract and they will notify Disney.

That was my understanding too. I am looking at a different resort, but I understand the 11-month versus 7-month thing as I already own at two different resorts each acquired directly from Disney. My guide said that having the same use year didn't matter, that any resale I buy will have a different contract number and those points couldn't be pooled with my other points. I want to add-on resale, but not if I can't have those points work the same way as the points I've previously added-on through Disney.

While I haven't personally added on through resale, my opinion comes from reading these boards for the last year or so. I've always read that buying resale is no different as buying from Disney as far as how Disney views your points once they are in your account. So, if you can add on thru Disney and your points can be combined at 7 months, you should be able to do the same thru resale, as long as your UY is the same and deed is titled the same as original.

My advice would be to call The Timeshare Store or DVCResales.com and talk to an agent. Their agents are very knowledgeable and helpful. Sounds to me that possibly your guide is trying to get you to buy through Disney so he/she will get their commission.

I have three resales, all the same resort and UY. They are linked...no hassle...no problem. They have different contract numbers, but I have only one member number.

I have a HHI contract I bought through DVC, I have a second contract at SSR I bought through DVC, and I have a third contract I bought resale at SSR. All same UY. I said nothing when I bought my resale about my other contracts, they all fall under one member number, but all have different contract numbers. I have absolutely no problems when I book something. I do not know if having one member number means I have one master contract, but when I book something using my SSR points they seem to lump them all as one.

this wouldn't be the first time a guide has been less knowledgeable than the DISboards. (charitably assuming they don't know that their comments are not true.)

when you say different contract numbers are they the same except for the number at the end? (such as xxxxx.01 and xxxxx.02? )

I have 2 resale contracts with the same use year, and only one member number. Disney originally gave me 2 member numbers, they did not catch that I already had a member number when entering the 2nd resale info into their system. I caught it and talked with them, and they fixed it , no problem. FYI, I thought I had all my bases covered for just getting one member number - I notified my resale company, the title company, had both contracts titled exactly the same way, and still ended up with 2 member numbers. I just closed on a third resale contract with the same use year, and wondering if Disney will catch this one???

why not call them and let them know it's coming? (not sure who to call exactly - but i'd start with member accounting and see if they could point me in the right direction...)

I requested they be linked at the time of closing. I verified this with MS to make sure it had been done. I've had no problems.

Thanks for confirming what I orginally thought. I didn't think my guide was correct, but didn't want to just dismiss it without double-checking -- would hate to find out too late that he was correct.

So we currently have a contract in ROFR with the TimeShare Store, our rep there said they would bring up all of our Disney information so our records would be combined. Do we still need to contact our Disney Guide or MS at or before closing?

Like TLSnell1981 stated in Post 15, I too will be calling MS to be sure my points have shown up and confirming the contract numbers are the same.

I always call MS after closing. I want to know if my points have shown up and to verify the contracts are under the same number.
