Ok, I have only been here about a week, and I am addicted! I called my CM about adding points on our contract, we bought 170 in July! Now I am finding thats not enough. I am waiting for him to call back. DH and I were thinking of adding on 30-40 points, do you think that would be enough? Is there a wait list for BCV? Then we were thinking of just buying into SSR at the bare minimum. Can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages of buying direct vs resale? They only thing I can think of is that buying from Disney they pay the closing costs which would be a plus. Any thoughts?
Thanks. This board has been great source of info!:bounce:

Planing going to BCV in Feb!!(no ressie yet)

I believe there is a waitlist for BCV but you can call your guide and he/she should be able to tell you for sure.

You an add on at BCV or you can add on at SSR. The minimum add on has to be 25 and 50 to finance.

We are going to add on at SSR.

I would look at what times of the year you want to travel and see if you have enough pts at BCV to cover that. If you do, check out SSR. If you don't, find out if there at BCV pts available.

Good luck and let us know what your guide says.

For a small add on, I would go directly through Disney vs. resale.

Buying direct gives you almost instant access to your points, credit is very easy to obstain and as long as you stay current on payments, you don't have anything appear on your credit report. Buying resale allows you more of a choice of where to purchase and the cost is usually lower, even considering that you may end up paying closing costs. But remember even that is negotiable. It takes much longer to have access to your points on a resale purchase.

Good luck.

What's your use year? I was on the waitlist for BCV points, March use year, and I got my points in about 36 hours. So if you get on the waitlist now, you probably can get points very fast versus waiting for a resale to go thru ROFR.

With only getting 30-40 points, you would have to pay cash. Buying 50 points you can take advantage of DVC financing.

Is that enough points for you? Only you can answer that. I waited a year to add-on because that's when it fit for us financially.

In the near future I would like to get an OKW resale of about 150 points. Resale for OKW is better than the DVC waitlist IMHO because you can probably find a contract size you want in a couple months. I hear the waitlist for points at OKW can be upwards of a year or more.

It all depends on what you want to do and where you want to stay.

Good luck!

If you are going for a less than $3000 purchase you would be better off buying direct from Disney. I looked into buying a 25 point add-on last week but the minimum closing costs would have been $375 for any purchases under $3K so the per point cost exceeded that of buying direct from Disney or was close to it, plus you have to wait until the close to use the points. I bought 50 points in the morning from Disney and by 2 p.m. I was booking a room with them. Consider ALL costs involved before making a decision, not just the asking price. Resale is great for larger contracts, but to me it does not pay for smaller ones.
