Adding on at a "sold out" resort

I'm curious - If I really wanted to add on at a "sold out" DVC (BCV for example) - What is the advantage to doing that through Disney rather than resale?

The biggest advanatge is not having to go through ROFR (Disney's Right of First Refusal). If the price you are buying at is too low Disney has the rightto buy the contract instead (therefore leaving you out of luck). The other main advantage is time. Resale will take 3-4 times the amount of time to get completed due to ROFR and the paperwork that needs to be signed bythe seller / buyer etc.

You also have a minimum buy in of 160 points if you buy direct through Disney where if you go resale you can start as low as 25 points. Resale will save you money (especially on larger contracts).

We have bought through Disney and Resale and have not had a problem with either. We went the resale line to get our first BCV contract because they were so hard to come by (we now just do our add on's through Disney).

There are a couple of other advantages - you can wait list if they don't have the UY you want and your points are available within 24 hours or so. The turn around is really quick. Also, if you are adding on, no closing costs. Weigh it all out to see which is best for you. We bought our first contract resale an added on direct.

If I own at AKV, can I add-on at a different resort for the 25 point minimum? Or can that only be done at your home resort?

You can add on at ANY DVC resort.
Cool! I'm sure I'll like AKV (especially with the incentives) but I'd love to get some VWL sometime!
:)

If I buy a different resort, do I have to have the same use year as my original? And does it become a different contract number?
(geez, why do I have so many questions? I sure can't afford an add-on right now after just buying 320 points this summer!)

Tecodis : when you buy add-on(s) through Disney they will get you same Use Year that you have. If you wanted a different Use Year it is possible but then that is considered a completely new contract and if I'm not mistaken the minimum points purchased has to be amount of points required for a first time purchase ( 160 points ). Hopefully someone here will confirm this or correct me.

You can add on through Disney with the Same UY starting at 25 points. Disney can help you with financing starting at 50 points or more. This is according to my guide Steve Tinn whom I spoke with today about adding on. I was very clear that I had no intention of purchasing a medium (160) or large (320+) contract. So, you can add on anywhere through Disney starting at 25 points. It just may take a while if the waiting list is long (i.e. BCV).

You can add on points at any resort and be able to book 11 months out, but you must have the points designated to that resort to book. If you buy only 25 points, you can essentially on use 75 points (banking from the previous year and borrowing from the next) to cover your reservation at that specific resort.

Our contract numbers on our original resale and our add on direct have the same contract number. The add on has .01 added to the end of it. Both are same resort and UY.

If you have different UY's it is considered a new master contract and the only way to combine the points would be by transfer. So, it would be best to use the bank/borrow method and use those points at that resort only. So if you own OKW and BCV, use the OKW points eoy and bank/borrow for your stay there and the next year, bank/borrow enough BCV points to stay there that year. The next year would be back at OKW.

That would simplify the different banking deadlines also.

If you buy direct from Disney you can put the payment on a credit card for cashback/hotel/airline points or miles. That's worth several per cent.

They let me spread my payments out for 3 months without interest.

And you can put up to 10% on a Disney VISA card, no interest and no payments for 6 months.

As mentioned biggest advantage time addon available immediately resale takes a long time with ROFR, closing and getting into the system.
Two other advantages:
No closing costs on an add on from DVC (on a small contract closing can add considerably to the $/pnt on resale)
Depending on use year the current use year points & maintenance fees MF can also enter into the equation. If available Oct & Dec use years from DVC would still have all their 2007 pnts which they would let you bank. (all other UY would have all their 2008 pnts) You would only pay the MF for the portion of the 2008 year after your purchase date.

Along the add on lines there used to be a web page where you could view current Disney listing of points (inventory) at diffrent DVC resorts that were available to purchase directly from Disney, anyone know where I could find it? I seem to have misplaced the link, tried a search but no luck

I didn't know this I thought they stripped the points as in if there was any unused ones and all yo got was the number of points you asked for

anyone know the add on price at the moment?
