For those that added on points at different resorts, is it really worth it? How many points do you add on to a new home resort? We don't like to resort hop during our stays if we can help it. Our home resort is AKV. We were thinking of adding on at Beach Club (through resale since we know they have a waiting list through Disney). I just wonder how many points is the norm to add on when going for a different home resort. I can't see buying 350 points at BCV too, but I doubt 50-100 points would even be worthwhile. :confused3

Depends on you. How often to you WDW? What season? How long do you stay? Can you bank and borrow to get enough points? Do you require the 11 month booking advantage?

We added 50 BCV points (thru Disney--took just shy of 3 weeks on the wait list before the points came through)...most of our points (365) are at SSR...

We had two reasons--first, we love BCV and wanted to own there for emotional reasons. Second, I am intrigued by Epcot's Food & Wine (October is one of only two months I've never been to WDW) and thought I'd like to try it "some time"...if/when I do, I'll want to stay at BCV or BWV...50 points is enough (w/banking and borrowing) to allow that...and it seems the 11-month booking window would be needed for that...

Also, at the time I added on, I wanted to book a week at WDW and I was short on points to do it...so the BCV points "enabled" that vacation...

Another consideration: we did want some ownership at BCV, but MFs are much higher there...so a small amount there kept our MFs more manageable...

So, for us it was absolutely worth it...

We added on 69 points at AKV for an every third year trip.

50 points would give you the ability to book a 150 point vacation at BCV at the 11-month window every three years.

Ahhhhh...this is how its worthwhile. Now I get it. Okay, that puts things into perspective a little better. We travel to Disney several times a year. I definitely could see where this would work for us every few years. :thumbsup2

Although this maybee a dumb question I need tho get it clarified. Okay so My home resort is SSR and we only stay at BWV, If I buy 210 points for BWV can I use points from my SSR for stays at BWV? Or can I only book with the points that I can use and borrow from that ownership? What I want to do is always have a 1 bedroom at BWV but get the option of the 11 month booking period, I have enough points thru my SSR membership but not always getting my way with staying at BWV. sorry if this was already covered.

I think I understand what your saying...because I had this question before we ever bought into DVC. My understanding is that if you own at BWV and book at 11 months out...you can only use your dedicated BWV points for your stay at that time. If you want to extend your stay at BWV using SSR points, you must wait until the 7 month window to book the rest of your stay at BWV using your SSR points.

At the 11-mo window, you can use only the points you own at a resort to book just that resort. At the 7-mo window, you can use your points from any resort to book any resort.

Owning at multiple resorts is great if you have more than one resort you like to stay at. We have 250 at AKV and 150 and BCV. It is more than worth it to have the 11 month advantage at each resort. Banking and borrowing makes it easy to have enough points for the stay you want if you do have multiple home resorts.

Okay, my next question would be-when you add on at a different resort, do you have to keep the same use year as your original resort?

Personally, I think it's worth it. We now have 300 points at VWL and 260 points at AKV. It's great to be able to bring family to VWL around Xmas time and it's great to have the ability to do a grand villa at AKV if we so desire. The concierge-level vacation that DW and I just had was great.

None of the above could be done without the home resort advantage.

from everything i've heard, add-ons must have the same UY as your primary contract. to get a different UY, you would need to buy a completely new contract (160 pts) - but i'm not sure about the new 100 pt offer...

Yes and no. Typically if you buy direct through Disney they will keep your same UY if you buy into another home resort. The only real benefit of this (IMHO) is it could be easier to keep track of banking points. We have an Oct and April UY for our two home resorts. This works really well for us because we like to vacation in late November and April so the banking periods coincide with our vacation habits. We bought our second home resort through resale (BCV). We were waitlisted through Disney for BCV with an OCT UY but it just never came through. When the BCV with April UY came up with the amount of points we wanted we jumped on it (I did first research through the boards for the advantages / disadvantages with multiple UY and found for the most part it created no problems for people).
