Hello All,

I know this has been addressed many times but I wanted to see if I can get some specific answers for my situation. Here is some background information:

- I currently own at SSR with a Feb use year.
- I want to add on a VERY small contract at BWV just so that I can book a SV during F&W for a few days a year. This is the only reason that I would do the add-on, as I haven't had any problems staying at the other resorts during January, May or September, which are the other times I go to WDW.
- I'll be using my add-on excusively to stay at BWV's every year or every other year at the end of October or beginning of November.

My questions are:

1. Which use year do I want to ask for? October? I was thinking October since I'll be staying at the end of October or early November every year.
2. If I can get a use year of October, before the end of this month, will I get '06 points when I purchase?
3. Is there another use year that you would recommend and why?

I'm going to call my guide today and request an add-on for BWV or be put on a waitlist. I'm only buying 30 points, so I'm hoping my wait won't be too long, as I want to book for next October next month.

I really appreciate your feedback, as I would like to have some general idea of what I want to do BEFORE I call my guide. FYI, I bought resale, so I've never dealt with him before and just don't really know what to do at this point.

Thank you very much in advance for your advice.

Julia

As I understand it the only way for you to get a different UY than your current contract through Disney is to buy 150 points. If you want a different use year for a smaller contract I think you will have to go the re-sale route.

That's correct. If you buy directly from Disney, you will need to buy at least 150 points to secure a different use year than the one you currently hold.
FWIW, in 10 years of membership, we have never needed to cancel last minute, so I'm one who doesn't think use year is all that important unless you routinely have to cancel late.

Oh, okay, I didn't know that. See, I'm glad I asked now.

Okay, so I will ask for Feb use year. I guess I need to wait until February, right? I can't get '06 use year points at this time, can I? If so, I would want to bank them and it would be too late to bank 100%, right?

I really appreciate the responses!

No need to wait until February to buy. Just call your guide and tell him the size add on you want, and he will notify you if and when points become available. Best to get on any waitlist now so you will get your points ASAP. The availability of use years depends entirely on inventory, not on when you purchase.

Got it! Thanks again.

I'm calling at 9a sharp!!

i always thought your use year was important, as keeping them close together, the same uy month or at least within a couple of months. i thought that was more important than the resort location. but i have decided that i don't know anything..... my use years are june and august. pretty close together. but, banking dates for june are nov. and banking dates for august are april. that spreads them apart more. :confused3

the more i find out the more confused i become. :worried: :headache:

Also, if you buy an add on through Disney, you will be able to bank the current year points of the add on even if the deadline has passed. Our guide told us that banking deadlines were suspended for the add ons.

When you purchase an add-on directly from Disney you get current-year points with your purchase. With a February Use Year Month, you are in your 2006 UY, so you will get 2006 points with your purchase provided you purchase the add-on no later than Jan 31, 2007. After that date, you would be in your 2007 UY and would start with 2007UY points.

Disney has been letting people bank those current-year points even if it's late in your use year. Also the annual dues for the add-on are pro-rated from the day you get the points which is usually within 24 hours of paying your deposit. You won't be billed for the dues until closing, about 6-8 weeks after you pay the deposit. So if you purchased an add-on today (Oct 6th) you would be billed for approximately 1/4 (3 months worth) of the 2006 annual dues.

Good luck!

Oh, that's great! I was hoping that I could bank all, as I won't need them until my Oct '07 reservation.

I've got a call into my guide now and just waiting on him to call back.

If you have points at two resorts with different use years, then it means those are totally separate contracts, each with it's own membership number.

You probably purchased resale, and didn't have them both as a master contract plus an add-on contract. Instead you have two separate master contracts.

Your contracts are as separate from each others as mine is from yours. Both of your contracts must be totally managed separately from each other. Points from the contracts cannot be combined to make a reservation at a single resort, nor are points combined when determining banking amounts.

Be sure you understand all the issues with owning two separate master contracts. It's very different than owning a single contract with add-on contracts, all under the same membership number.
