Adding names to deed and DVC perks

It became clear during our recent BWV stay that DH just can't travel anymore because of health issues. After shedding my share of tears I am considering various options regarding our points. We did sell a couple of small contracts but still have 900 points. I want to explore other options. My sister and her DH are considering DVC because they have used our points many times and love it. It would make me happy to give her a contract or 2 by simply adding her and her DH to our deeds. I am not worried about divorce, bankruptcy, etc. But if we add her, will she get all the DVC perks or would she be subject to the resale restrictions that have been added the last few years? Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to deal with this? It would make me happy to keep points in the family. I am also considering just keeping the points I have left and using them to gift reservations to family, but that is the most expensive option.

My guess that adding a family member to your deed won't modify the deed restrictions or perks. Sorry to read about DH, I know that decreasing your BWV stays will be disappointing and we will miss looking at your holiday lights on your balcony.

Thanks, Bill. I know I should call MS to see what they have to say but I like to check with the DIS folks first. It would be just my luck to get a newbie at MS and be told incorrect or incomplete info.
I wish this whole thing weren't so emotional for me because I need to be clear headed.

Oh, yes. I shouldn't have said "MS." I would talk to accounting. I think of everything at the 1-800 number as MS and that's not accurate.

AFAIK adding someone will not change the entitlements of a contract so your sister would have all that you currently do. Also, from all reports after the first resale restrictions gratuitous transfers (so completely out of the original owners name) also retained full benefits. Of course you need to check with Member Administration (what is that - option 3 or maybe 4?) to see if anything changed after the April restrictions but I'd suspect adding will not alter entitlements. There is probably some paperwork you need to get from Disney and a new deed would need to be done.

Very, very sweet of you, CarolynFH. I guess I should have known this day was coming soon and here it is. I need to be "glad that is happened instead of sad that it is over." The seasons of life happen even at the happiest place on earth.

As long as you add them and it's gratuitous they will get the benefits and you'll effectively bypass ROFR. The 2 applicable portions are close family member and no charge. They may ask you to attest to those conditions which should be a no brainer in this situation. I'm sorry for the situation you've found yourself in.

Thanks, Dean. I am going to give my emotions a chance to settle down a little before I make any more decisions but I am happy to know that there may be a relatively easy way to gift some points to my sister and allow her to still have full DVC perks.

You can also do it fairly inexpensively. Around $40 if you get a deed template and do it all yourself, under $200 total is possible if you don't want to do that. Just make sure you get 2 witnesses different than the notary. The notary can sign as a witness but must do so in the witness area. You can always rent for a year or 2 if needed. Hang in there. For others reading, these are the type of issues that happen and making the best decisions up front for the long haul is the best defense and IMO, that's not to buy a bunch of 25-75 point contracts if it costs more to do so.

Thanks, Debbie. I think I am still in denial. I just can't imagine not going back. BWV really did become like our second home. At least now I have finally stopped crying about it.
