Adding dining plan after room booked

If I book our room & tickets now for next summer or fall and then later on our dates fall within the free dining when the dates are announced, is it automatically added to our package? Do we have to call & request it be added? Are we not eligible since it was already booked? Do we have to cancel then rebook w/dining plan added?

Are we not eligible since it was already booked? You will be eligible as long as there are rooms in your room category available at your resort. If there are no rooms available or it's not being offered at your resort you may have to change to a different resort or room category.

Do we have to cancel then rebook w/dining plan added? If you book a room + tickets it is a package so you would just have to add dining. If you book a room only reservation, then you would have to cancel and rebook as a package.

Have 1 more question: Would it be best to book room, tickets & ddp and then wait to see if free dining is offered; if it is call back to cancel the ddp. Or add the ddp plan on later.

Doesn't matter either way. If you've booked a package for the first booking (Room + Tix, or Room, Tix, DDP), then they'll transfer the deposit and any payments over to the new booking under the code.

If you book room only, they sometimes can do this, and sometimes have to cancel, refund, and rebook. It all depends who you get.

I had a pkg that included DDP and FD came out several months later. I called and asked if the CM could change it to FD and she said, "Sure!"

Words of advice: Keep checking for FD bc you don't want to miss it. I checked for fun recently on our dates and it is no longer available. Also, one tip I learned on DIS is that you can get FD as long as your check in day is ANY time during FD, even the last day of FD. So, we are checking in the Friday before Thanksgiving and that is the last day of FD, but we got it for our whole trip. Saved the 3 of us $700!
