Adding days at 7 months

Question for you vets, to make sure I understand...we have a BLT contract and are in the process of purchasing an Aulani contract via resale--use years are the same on the two contracts. To book an Aulani trip, I will have enough points on my Aulani contract to book 3 nights at 11 months. At 7 months, I will use points from my BLT contract to add another 3 or 4 nights. My question is, since my two contracts are the same use year, can I just ADD ON days to the existing reservation at 7 months, using the BLT points, or do i have to make a separate reservation for the 3 or 4 nights using the BLT points, and then link the two?

You cannot reserve the extra days using the BLT points of the trip until 7 months out from that second portion of the trip, and then link the two reservations.

Totally get when I can add the extra days--just want to confirm that the added days will have to be a separate reservation that will then have to be linked, which it sounds like you are both saying, yes? There is no "adding on" to the reservation booked with the AUL pts--only creating a separate reservation and then linking? Is it easier to do this by calling member services, such that they can just do both pieces at the same time (make the second reservation AND then link the two immediately), or it really doesn't matter (make the second rezzie online and subsequently call MS to link)? Does the inability to do the "adding on" really boil down to IT incapability (versus not being allowed by "the rules"), or am I not understanding something? B/c it seems that this would be no different than combining all points at 7 months to make one reservation, given that my UYs are the same.

If the two contracts are titled the same way and they are under the same membership number, then you can modify the reservation made at 11 months to add the remaining nights when the 7-month window opens for those nights if you wish to use your BLT points for those nights. However, the website can be temperamental and it will require you to use all of your Aulani points first, even if you had not used all of them for the initial reservation. This is because the initial reservation was made at 11 months using Aulani points, so that contract’s points must be used first. The website does not permit you to specify the number of points used from each contract, only which contract must be used first. If it is not your intent to use any remaining Aulani points for those nights, you will need to call MS to make the reservation. They can make the continuing reservation using just the BLT points. This would require waiting until MS opens. I don’t know how likely it would be that the villa you want would disappear right at 7 months.

The alternative would be to make a separate reservation using the BLT points at 7 months and then calling MS to combine the reservations.
